3rd Eurographics Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval
-------------------------------------------------
2nd May 2010, Norrköping, Sweden
http://www-rech.telecom-lille1.eu/3dorhttp://www.eurographics2010.se/coevents/
3D object representations have become an integral part of modern computer
graphics applications, such as computer-aided design, game development and
film production. At the same time, 3D data have become very common in
domains such as computer vision, computational geometry, molecular biology,
and medicine. The rapid evolution in graphics hardware and software
development, in particular the availability of low cost 3D scanners, has
greatly facilitated 3D model acquisition, creation and manipulation, giving
the opportunity to experience applications using 3D models to a large user
community. As the number of 3D models is continuously growing fast, the
problem of creating new 3D models has shifted to the problem of searching
for existing 3D models. Thereupon, the development of efficient search
mechanisms is required for the effective retrieval of 3D objects from large
repositories.
The 3rd Eurographics Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval will stimulate
researchers from different fields (computer vision, computer graphics,
machine learning and human-computer interaction) to work on the common goal
of 3D object retrieval. It will thus provide a cross-fertilization ground
fostering the next steps in this important research area.
The workshop program features a set of exciting paper and poster
presentations addressing shape descriptor definition; view- and part-based
retrieval; feature selection and learning; and face retrieval and
benchmarking. The workshop hosts the Shape Retrieval Contest (SHREC'10)
which plays an important role in the evolution of 3D Object Retrieval
research. Presentations of contest participants will detail the results of
the competition, demonstrating the state of the art in important 3D
retrieval tasks.

SBIM 2010 Call For Participation
Created in 2004, the Eurographics Symposium on Sketch-based Interfaces and
Modeling (SBIM) provides a unique venue for researchers, students and
practitioners interested in sketch-based techniques to interact with one
another, share lessons learned, show new results and discuss open issues.
The goal of this symposium is to explore models, algorithms and technologies
needed to enable effective sketch-based interfaces. It investigates novel
methods for classification and recognition of hand-drawn shapes, and the
ways of using these techniques for creating or editing digital models, from
text, mathematics, and 2D diagrams to 3D shapes. Likewise, the symposium
explores the application of sketch-based interfaces to 3D computer graphics,
animation, and CAD, as well as other specific applications such as diagram
editing and note taking and novel input devices. Finally, the symposium
welcomes empirical user studies aimed at clarifying the nature of
sketch-based interfaces and comparing them to other interaction techniques.
This year, the symposium will be held in Annecy, France and will be
co-located with the 8th Symposium on Non Photorealistic Animation and
Rendering (NPAR 2010) and the Annecy film festival -- for more information
see http://graphics.cs.williams.edu/sbim-npar10/ . The symposium will
include paper presentations (single track), coffee breaks, demonstrations, a
social event, and a keynote talk by (to be determined). All are welcome to
attend SBIM; submission of a paper is not required for attendance. The
proceedings will be published in the EG Symposia series and made available
online through the Eurographics and ACM Digital Libraries.
Authors are invited to submit original papers on topics in pen-based 2D and
3D modeling, sketch recognition, and pen-based interface design, including,
but not limited to:
. Multimodal interfaces for sketching
. Novel sketch input and editing devices
. Novel pen-based interaction techniques
. Low level ink processing and pen stroke segmentation

2010 International Conference on Cyberworlds
20-22 October 2010, Singapore http://www3.ntu.edu.sg/SCE/cw2010
Organized by the School of Computer Engineering, Nanyang Technological
University, Singapore.
Technically Co-Sponsored by IEEE Computer Society.
In cooperation with Association for Computing Machinery and Eurographics
Association.
Supported by the Interactive Digital Media R&D Program Office, Media
Development Authority of Singapore.
Cyberworlds are information worlds or communities created on cyberspace by
collaborating participants either intentionally or spontaneously. As
information worlds, they accumulate information regardless whether or not
anyone is in, and they can be with or without 2D or 3D visual graphics
appearance. The examples of such cyberworlds are communities created in
different social networking services, 3D shared virtual environments, and
multiplayer online games. Cyberworlds are closely related to the real world
and have a serious impact on it. Cyberworlds have been created and applied
in such areas as e-business, e-commerce, e-manufacturing, e-learning,
e-medicine, and cultural heritage, etc. Cyberworlds augment and sometimes
replace the real life and become a significant component of real economy.
The international conferences on Cyberworlds have being organized annually
since 2002 with the proceedings published by IEEE Computer Society and
special issues published in The Visual Computer and other research journals.
10th in the series, CW2010 will consist of paper sessions, tutorials,
industrial seminars, exhibitions and hands-on demonstrations where
researchers, artists, and vendors will show the state-of-the-art in the
field. CW2010 will have several parallel tracks including but not limited to
the following topics:
Shared virtual worlds; Virtual collaborative spaces; Shape modeling for
cyberworlds; Virtual humans and avatars; Intelligent talking agents;
Networked collaboration; Haptic interaction and rendering; Computer
vision, augmented, mixed and virtual reality; Human-computer interfaces;
Cognitive informatics; Brain-computer interfaces; EEG-based emotion
recognition; E-learning in virtual collaborative spaces; Multi-user web
games; Art and heritage in cyberspace; Cyber-museums; Cyberworlds and
their impact on the real worlds; Cyberethics and cyberlaws;
Cybersecurity; Data mining and warehousing in cyberworlds; Social
networking.
CW2010 will also have a special research and industrial track for Singapore
Media Development Authority Co-Space projects.
Key-note speakers:
Tosiyasu L. Kunii
Chief Technical Advisor of Morpho, Inc., Japan and Professor Emeritus of The
University of Tokyo, Japan.
Nadia Thalmann
Professor and Director of MIRALab, University of Geneva and Director of the
Institute for Media Innovations, NTU, Singapore.
Michael Yap
Deputy CEO at Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore and an
Executive Director of the Interactive Digital Media (IDM) Programme Office.
André Gagalowicz
Scientific Leader, Mirages, INRIA Paris - Rocquencourt research centre.
Dieter Fellner,
Professor at TU Darmstadt and Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for
Computer Graphics Research (IGD), Germany.
The conference proceedings will be published by the IEEE Computer Society,
placed in the IEEE Xplore and Computer Society digital libraries, and
submitted for indexing through INSPEC, EI (Compendex), Thomson ISI, and
other indexing services.
The best full papers will be selected for 2 special issues of the following
international journals:
- The Visual Computer (Springer)
- Transactions on Computational Science (Springer)
Important Dates:
Paper submission 30 April 2010
Notice of Acceptance 15 Jun 2010
