Eurographics Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval 2012
A co-event of Eurographics 2012
May 13, 2012
<http://eg3dor2012.ist.utl.pt/>
# Important dates
Jan 26, 2012: Paper Submission (extended)
Feb 16, 2012: Notification of acceptance
Feb 27, 2012: Camera-ready papers
May 13, 2012: Workshop takes place
# 3D Object Retrieval Workshop Series
3D object representations have become an integral part of modern computer
graphics applications, such as computer-aided design, game development and
film production. At the same time, 3D data have become very common in
various domains such as computer vision, computational geometry, molecular
biology and medicine.
Indeed, the rapid evolution in graphics hardware and software, in particular
the availability of low cost 3D scanners and modeling tools, has greatly
facilitated 3D model acquisition, creation, and manipulation, giving the
opportunity to a large user community to experience applications using 3D
models. As the number of 3D models is growing rapidly, the problem of
creating new 3D models has shifted to the problem of searching for existing
3D models. Thereupon, the development of efficient search mechanisms is
required for the effective retrieval of 3D objects from large repositories.
The aim of the 3DOR Workshop series is to stimulate researchers from
different fields such as Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Machine
Learning and Human-Computer Interaction who work on the common goal of 3D
object retrieval, to present state-of-the-art work in the field. This will
provide a cross-fertilization ground that will stimulate discussions on the
next steps in this important research area.
The 5th Eurographics Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval (3DOR 2012) is a
co-event of the 33rd Annual Conference of the European Association for
Computer Graphics (Eurographics 2012). The workshop will take place on May
13, 2012 in Cagliari, Italy.
# Call for Papers, Posters and System Demonstrations
Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished research and
practical applications in all areas of 3D Object Retrieval. Submissions are
invited in form of full and short papers, as well as poster and system
presentations. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
- 3D object similarity and matching
- 3D object classification, indexing, and mining
- Similarity of non-rigid shapes
- Feature extraction, decomposition, and segmentation
- Multi-level representations for matching and retrieval
- Partial, part-in-whole, and many-to-many matching
- Matching under uncertainty and noise
- Semantics-driven 3D object retrieval and classification
- Sketch-based retrieval
- Query interfaces and search modalities
- Benchmarking issues
- Relevance feedback methods
- Active learning
- Generative/discriminative approaches in 3D object categorization
- Applications in multimedia, CAD, games, biometrics, e-science, e-learning,
medicine, biology, and cultural heritage.
This years workshop will also feature the 7th Shape Retrieval Evaluation
Contest (SHREC2012). A separate call for participation will be issued later
on.
Extended versions of selected papers from the Workshop will appear, after a
further review, in special issues of international journals. Selected papers
from previous workshops appeared in special issues of The Visual Computer
(TVC) journal and the International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV)
published by Springer.

into the X3D standard, in a generic way that is independent from the
specific rendering method. On the other hand, the conference will
particularly focus on novel mobile AR applications, innovative 3D graphics
Web applications and novel Medical and eHealth developments, aside from
contents over 3D Internet.
The annual ACM Web3D Conference is a major event that gathers researchers,
developers, entrepreneurs, experimenters, artists, and content creators in a

*** EGPGV 2012 - Call for Papers ***
Welcome to the 12th EGPGV, the Eurographics Symposium on Parallel Graphics
and Visualization. The event will take place on May 13 - 14 in Cagliari,
island of Sardinia, Italy.
The Symposium will be held in conjunction with Eurographics 2012.
EGPGV is the premier international event focusing on parallel graphics and
visualization technology, where novel solutions exploiting and defining new
trends in parallel hardware and software architectures are presented. The
aim of the symposium is to strongly encourage exchange of experiences and
knowledge in parallel and distributed visual computing and its application
to all aspects of computer graphics and data visualization. For more
information, please refer to the symposium website
http://www.egpgv.org/egpgv2012.
All papers should have a direct relation to some aspect of parallelism in
graphics or visualization such as multi-core computing, multi-pipe GPU
rendering/computing, distributed systems, clusters or grid environments.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Photo-realistic rendering
- Volume rendering
- Large data set visualization
- GPGPU applications
- Simulations for interactive applications
- Cluster based graphics and visualization systems
- Large and high resolution displays
- Efficient graphics and visualization methods
- Out of core rendering from/for multiple resources
- Parallel visual computing
- Large scale simulations and graphics rendering
- Visualization and graphics for scientific, engineering and commercial
applications
- Graphics and visualization in Grid environments
- Multimodal applications
- Scheduling, memory management and data coherence
The proceedings of the Symposium will be published in the Eurographics
Proceedings Series and on the Eurographics Digital Library. Note that the
authors of up to three of the best papers from the EGPGV Symposium will be
invited to submit extended journal versions to IEEE Transactions on
Visualization and Computer Graphics.

High Performance Graphics 2012 Call For Participation
We are pleased to announce High-Performance Graphics 2012. High Performance
Graphics is the leading international forum for performance-oriented
graphics systems research including innovative algorithms, efficient
implementations, and hardware architecture. The conference brings together
researchers, engineers, and architects to discuss the complex interactions
of massively parallel hardware, novel programming models, efficient graphics
algorithms, and novel applications. High Performance Graphics was founded in
2009 to synthesize and broaden on two important and well-respected
conferences in computer graphics: Graphics Hardware and Interactive Ray
Tracing.
CONFERENCE INFO
Co-sponsored by Eurographics and ACM SIGGRAPH (pending)
The program features three days of paper and industry presentations, with
ample time for discussions during breaks, lunches, and the conference
banquet.
The conference, which will take place on June 25-27, is co-located with the
Eurographics Symposium on Rendering in Paris, France.
The conference website is http://www.highperformancegraphics.org/

complete International Program Committee will be available on the conference
website in due time.
HOT 3D SYSTEMS TRACK
We invite vendors in the graphics industry to present their latest and
greatest 3D chips, high-performance software, and system designs.
Presentations should be 20 minutes long, technical rather than
marketing-oriented, and with a focus on real products. Hot 3D presentations
are not considered archival publications for the purposes of future
submission to peer-reviewed venues.
POSTERS
We also invite the submission of posters describing on-going or
late-breaking work. In addition to traditional posters, this session will
be enhanced to provide opportunities for paper authors to present
implementation details or hands-on demonstrations.
IMPORTANT DATES
PAPERS:
Tuesday, April 3, Deadline for paper abstract submissions (strongly
encouraged)
Friday, April 6, Deadline for paper submissions
Monday, May 14, Notification of paper acceptance
Tuesday, May 22, Revised papers due
HOT 3D & POSTERS:
Monday, May 7, Deadline for poster and Hot 3D submissions
Monday, May 14, Notification of poster and Hot 3D acceptance
All deadlines are at 11:59 pm GMT.
BEST PAPER AWARD
An award of $500 will be given to the authors of the most outstanding paper
presented at the event. The award is based on the accuracy, originality, and
importance of the technical concept, the quality and readability of the
manuscript, as well as the content and delivery of the verbal presentation.
The winner will be chosen based on audience feedback and will be announced
at the end of the conference.
DEMONSTRATIONS
Presenters and participants are invited to bring prototypes and products for
demonstration at the event. Demonstrations will be held during breaks and
before and after the sessions. We highly encourage paper authors and
industry presenters to demonstrate their systems.
