Scope
The fifteenth 3IA conference on Computer graphics and Artificial
Intelligence aims at providing an international place for researches to
exchange novel ideas, challenges, and state of the art solutions in this
evolving field.
Origin and evolution of the conference
The 3IA Conference has been created 18 years ago by Dimitri Plemenos,
honoring chair of the 2013 event. After numerous editions in Limoges
(FRANCE), the conference moved for five years in Athens (GREECE).
For the next editions, the conference will take place in different
countries. This new cycle will start with the city of Toulouse (FRANCE) in
2013 and will next be held in Hamburg (GERMANY) in 2014. Others countries
are candidates for the future editions such as Canada, Spain and China and
we hope that this new organization will increase the interest of researchers
in this exciting field and the attraction for this dedicated event.

Dear Colleagues,
the Konstanz Research School Chemical Biology
(KoRS-CB) and the Computer and Information Science (CS) department at the
University of Konstanz in Germany offer a PhD position in the area of
information visualization for biology.
We are searching for excellent candidates either in bioinformatics or in
computer science with knowledge relevant to (biological) data visualization.
In the project we will develop new data-analysis and visualization methods
for high-throughput screening in Chemical Biology. Hit selection and
sub-structure determination through clustering will be optimized with
regards to chemical relevance.
Results will be visualized by different parallel views that allow coherent
interaction. An important aspect in visualization will be to reduce the
cognitive load of the viewer.
A successful candidate will be offered a full three years TVL 13 position
and associated with KoRS-CB and CS.

Max Planck Institute for Informatics
The Max Planck Institute for Informatics, as the coordinator of the Max
Planck Center for Visual Computing and Communication (MPC-VCC), invites
applications for
Junior Research Groups Leaders
in the Max Planck Center for Visual Computing and Communication
The Max Planck Center for Visual Computing and Communications offers young
scientists in information technology the opportunity to develop their own
research program addressing
- important problems in areas such as
- image communication
- computer graphics
- geometric computing
- imaging systems
- computer vision
- human machine interface
- distributed multimedia architectures
- multimedia networking
- visual media security
The center includes an outstanding group of faculty members at Stanford's
Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Departments, the Max Planck
Institute for Informatics, and Saarland University.
The program begins with a preparatory 1-2 year postdoc phase (Phase P) at
the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, followed by a two-year appointment
at Stanford University (Phase I) as a visiting assistant professor, and then
a position at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics as a junior research
group leader (Phase II). However, the program can be entered flexibly at
each phase, commensurate with the experience of the applicant.
Applicants to the program must have completed an outstanding PhD. Exact
duration of the preparatory postdoc phase is flexible, but we typically
expect this to be about 1-2 years. Applicants who completed their PhD in
Germany may enter Phase I of the program directly. Applicants for Phase II
are expected to have completed a postdoc stay abroad and must have
demonstrated their outstanding research potential and ability to
successfully lead a research group.
Reviewing of applications will commence on 01 Jan 2013. The final deadline
is 31 Jan 2013. Applicants should submit their CV, copies of their school
and university reports, list of publications, reprints of five selected
publications, names of references, a brief description of their previous
research and a detailed description of the proposed research project
(including possible opportunities for collaboration with existing research
groups at Saarbrücken and Stanford) to:
Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Seidel

At the Department of Informatics ( <http://www.uib.no/ii/en>
http://www.uib.no/ii/en) one 4-year position as research fellow is available
within the field of informatics. This position is part of an
interdisciplinary research project Physioillustration, which is funded by
the Norwegian Research Council. The main goal of the project is to advance
visualization technology that communicates complex biological processes and
machineries in an understandable way, conveyed along the lines of
traditional craft of illustration and 3D animation. The central research
question is: "How can a complex system of processes be visually communicated
to a human in a clear and intuitive way?". We base our investigation on data
available nowadays in computational biology, as this scientific discipline
generates data that matches very well with the central goal of the project.
The research team will consist of visualization researchers, as the central
discipline and of an illustrator and a researcher in bioinformatics as
complementary disciplines.
For further information about the position please contact

Starting salary on grade 50 (code 1017/pay framework 20.8) in the Civil
Service pay grade table; currently NOK 416 600 gross p.a.; following
ordinary meriting regulations.

/// EuroVis 2013 - Call for Short Papers
/// http://www.eurovis.org/
For the second time, EuroVis 2013 features a short paper track. The purpose
of this track is to present late-breaking results, work in progress, and
follow-up extensions or evaluations of existing methods. Short papers will
be peer-reviewed in a one-stage process by an international program
committee. They will be electronically archived and are fully citable
publications. Submissions for the short paper track should be 4 pages (at
most), excluding references, and 5 pages (at most), in total. They will be
orally presented at the conference. EuroVis 2013 will be held in Leipzig,
Germany, June 17-21, 2013.
Please note that we encourage authors of short papers on workshop topics to
submit to the respective workshop.
Important Dates:
*Short Papers Submission Deadline*: March 8, 2013
Acceptance Notification: April 19, 2013
Camera-ready Deadline: May 3, 2013
Conference Dates: June 17-21, 2013
A EuroVis short paper describes a more focused and concise research
contribution and is likely to have a smaller -- yet still significant --
scope of contribution than a full paper. Short papers draw from the same
paper types as full papers, as well as the same list of suggested topics.
The following descriptive examples, which are characterized in contrast to
full papers, may be helpful in understanding what kinds of submissions may
be suitable for short papers:
* A new visualization technique or system and evidence of
its utility compared to known techniques or systems
(described in sufficient detail to assist an expert reader
in replicating the technique or system, but without
exhaustive implementation detail and evaluation).
* An incremental improvement or variation of an existing
visualization technique or system with convincing
evaluation.
* An extensive evaluation of an existing visualization
technique or system.
* A well-proven counter-example to an existing
visualization technique that helps to understand
limitations.
* A new implementation approach that has demonstrably
addressed a significant technical issue
(without extensive evaluation of the implementation).
* A new methodology for designing or studying visualization
systems that has demonstrable benefits for the EuroVis
community (without extensive evaluation of the
methodology).
All submissions must be original works that have not been published
previously in any conference proceedings, magazine, journal, or edited book.
