/// TopoInVis 2015 - Call for Papers
/// <http://topoinvis.org/2015/> http://topoinvis.org/2015/
Topology-based methods are of increasing importance in the analysis and
visualization of datasets from a wide variety of scientific domains such as
biology, physics, engineering, and medicine. Current challenges of
topology-based techniques include the extension of concepts to
time-dependent data, the representation of large and complex datasets, the
characterization of noise and uncertainty, the effective integration of
numerical methods with robust combinatorial algorithms, etc.
In this forum we will bring together the most prominent and best recognized
researchers in the field of topology-based data analysis and visualization
for a joint discussion and scientific exchange of the latest results in the
field.
At the workshop we will discuss topics, which include:
* scalar/vector/tensor field topology
* topology of point sets and cell complexes
* multi-field topology
* theoretical models
* combinatorial methods and robustness
* multi-scale representation models
* higher-order topological methods
* time-dependent methods
* feature extraction
* Lagrangian coherent structures
* topology-based denoising
* topological similarity and correlation
* topology simplification
* user interfaces and visualization
* domain specific interpretation of topological constructs and results
* efficiency of topological algorithms
The 2015 workshop in Annweiler, Germany follows the five successful
workshops in 2005 (Budmerice, Slovakia), 2007 (Grimma, Germany), 2009
(Snowbird, USA), 2011 (Zurich, Switzerland), and 2013 (Davis, USA). It will
be held in an open atmosphere of informal discussions, open exchange and
personal interaction. We invite participation at the workshop through full
papers including presentation, or through panels that discuss topics of
interest to the community.
For TopoInVis 2015, we especially solicit work that discusses
implementations of topological analysis and visualization techniques.
Such implementations must be available under an open-source license. It is
our intent to create at TopoInVis a platform to disseminate knowledge about
such implementations throughout and beyond the community.
Corresponding papers are expected to describe the strategies behind their
novel implementation, discuss capabilities, limitations, and performance
characteristics, and compare the presented implementation to similar works
if those exist.
Paper submissions will be peer-reviewed by an international program
committee before the workshop, and must be presented at the workshop. We are
tentatively planning to publish all accepted papers in the Mathematics +
Visualization series of Springer after a mandatory revision incorporating
reviewer comments and discussions at the workshop.
Important Dates:
Dec. 19, 2014: *abstract submission* for papers Jan. 14, 2015: *submission
deadline* for papers and panel proposals Feb. 20, 2015: notification of
acceptance

3D Object Retrieval Workshop (3DOR) 2015
Co-located event with Eurographics 2015
Website: <http://vc.ee.duth.gr/3dor2015/> http://vc.ee.duth.gr/3dor2015/
Do you remember the days when retrieving the data that you needed from the
internet was a matter of visiting sites your friends knew? The days when you
would try out alternative search engines to find a single result? Was it a
coincidence that text retrieval engines flourished with the explosion of
textual information on the internet that could not be manually explored?
A new wave of information is now underway. Low-cost 3D scanners and 3D
printers combined with popular applications of Computer Graphics and Vision
are making 3D object models appeal to an increasing audience. See for
example repositories such as <http://shapes.aimatshape.net/>
http://shapes.aimatshape.net/ , <https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/>
https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/.
As these 3D object collections are growing, the importance of effective
retrieval, search and exploration is increasing. Because it is easier to
find something than to create it from scratch and because manual browsing
quickly becomes intractable as a collection grows.
To this effect it is crucial to develop algorithms for the content-based
searching of 3D object collections; creating compact and accurate
descriptors for 3D objects; indexing 3D objects; creating efficient storage
structures for data bases of 3D objects; investigating theoretical aspects
of practical importance such as what it means for two shapes to be similar;
interfaces for content-based 3D object search; visualization techniques for
3D search results; real time aspects of techniques and algorithms. Many
fields of Computer Science and beyond can offer their valuable knowledge to
this complex but highly interesting and practical problem.
The aim of the 3DOR Workshop series is to stimulate researchers from
different fields such as Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Machine
Learning, Cognitive Science and Human-Computer Interaction who work on or
are interested in 3D object retrieval search and exploration, to present
state-of-the-art work in the field or learn about it and participate in
discussions. This will provide a cross-fertilization that will stimulate
discussions on the next steps in this important research area. 3DOR 2015will
be the 8th workshop in this series.
3DOR 2015 will be a 2-day event for the first time and will contain the
following tracks: research papers, posters, 2 keynote speeches (NEW!), EU
project presentations and networking (NEW!), industrial session (NEW!).
Call for Papers, Posters and System Demonstrations
Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished research and
application papers addressing all areas of 3D Object Retrieval. Submissions
are invited in the form of full papers (up to 8 pages) and short papers
presented in a poster session (up to 4 pages).
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
- 3D object similarity and matching
- 3D video retrieval
- 3D mobile media retrieval
- 3D object retrieval and Web3D
- 3D search in large scale data
- Personalized 3D search

- Statistical techniques for 3D shape analysis and retrieval
- Generative/discriminative approaches in 3D object categorization

This years workshop will also feature the 10th Shape Retrieval Evaluation
Contest (SHREC2015). A separate call for participation will be issued
later.
It is planned to have extended versions of selected papers from the Workshop
appearing, after a further review, in a special issue of an international
journal. Selected papers from previous workshops appeared in special issues
of The Visual Computer (TVC) journal.

Poster submissions due: Friday, November 21st, 2014 at 23:59 GMT/UTC
We invite the submission of proposals for technical poster presentations
at IEEE VR 2015.
Poster submissions might describe recently completed work, highly
relevant results of work in progress, or successful systems and
applications, in all areas of VR. Since posters are not considered to be
formal publications, work submitted as a poster is eligible for future
publication in other venues.
Presenting a poster is a great way to get feedback on work that has not
yet been published. Poster presentations will be an integral part of the
conference, with a session for interactive discussion between presenters
and attendees, plus a fast-forward presentation track where authors can
orally present a brief summary of their work to all conference
attendees. Note that, in order to maintain interactive and exciting
poster presentations, we require at least one presenter per accepted
poster to attend the conference.
Poster submissions must be in English. The submission must be in the
form of a two-page abstract. Supplemental material, such as a poster
draft or videos may be submitted as well, but are not mandatory. All
submitted materials must be in PDF format with embedded fonts. Two-page
abstracts will be included in the proceedings and will be archived in
the IEEE Digital Library, and therefore must be formatted using the IEEE
Computer Society format described at
