Max Planck Institute for Informatics
The Max Planck Institute for Informatics, as the coordinator of the Max
Planck Center for Visual Computing and Communication (MPC-VCC), invites
applications for
Junior Research Group Leaders
in the Max Planck Center for Visual Computing and Communication
The Max Planck Center for Visual Computing and Communications offers young
scientists in information technology the opportunity to develop their own
research program addressing important problems in areas such as
· image communication
· computer graphics
· geometric computing
· imaging systems
· computer vision
· human machine interface
· distributed multimedia architectures
· multimedia networking
· visual media security.
The center includes an outstanding group of faculty members at Stanfords
Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Departments, the Max Planck
Institute for Informatics, and Saarland University.
The program begins with a preparatory 1-2 year postdoc phase (Phase P)
at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, followed by a two-year
appointment at Stanford University (Phase I) as a visiting assistant
professor, and then a position at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics
as a junior research group leader (Phase II). However, the program can be
entered flexibly at each phase, commensurate with the experience of the
applicant.
Applicants to the program must have completed an outstanding PhD.
Exact duration of the preparatory postdoc phase is flexible, but we
typically expect this to be about 1-2 years. Applicants who completed their
PhD in Germany may enter Phase I of the program directly. Applicants for
Phase II are expected to have completed a postdoc stay abroad and must have
demonstrated their outstanding research potential and ability to
successfully lead a research group.
Reviewing of applications will commence on 01 Jan 2016. The final
deadline is 31 Jan 2016. Applicants should submit their CV, copies of their
school and university reports, list of publications, reprints of five
selected publications, names of 3-5 references, a brief description of their
previous research and a detailed description of the proposed research
project (including possible opportunities for collaboration with existing
research groups at Saarbrücken and Stanford) to:

<http://eurographics2016.pt/call-for-doctoral-consortium/>
http://eurographics2016.pt/call-for-doctoral-consortium/
The recently created Eurographics 2016 Doctoral Consortium is a new
networking event that provides PhD students, working in all areas of
computer graphics, with an opportunity to present their work and interact
with distinguished and experienced researchers in the field, receiving
feedback and mentoring, as well as a different perspective from senior
researchers outside their home institution. The Doctoral Consortium also
allows PhD students to share their work and experience with other students
in similar situations.
PhD students working in all areas of computer graphics are encouraged to
apply. We encourage applications from students who are about at the middle
of their PhD work the ones who still have time to be influenced by
participation in the Consortium, but who already have a clear research
direction, and possibly have published some results as well as the ones
who are close to finishing, or who have very recently finished, their
doctorate degree, to share their experience and to discuss their ongoing
research and future research plans.
Submission Guidelines
Electronic submission should be conducted using the

Eligible Doctoral students who would like to participate in the Doctoral
Consortium should submit the following materials as a single PDF file:
1. Research Statement: A 3-4 pages abstract summarizing her/his
dissertation research, singly authored by herself/himself.
2. Poster design in A0 size poster orientation: which will be used by the
author to present their work at the Doctoral Consortium.

After several requests, the deadline of the STAR sketches has been extended
to the 15th of December 2015!
---------------------------------
CALL FOR STATE-OF-THE-ART REPORTS
All accepted STARs will be published in Computer Graphics Forum
EuroVis 2016 is the 18th annual scientific gathering on visualization
jointly organized by the Eurographics Working Group on Data Visualization
and the IEEE Visualization and Graphics Technical Committee. EuroVis 2016
will be held in Groningen, The Netherlands from June 6-10, 2016.
For the first time, all accepted EuroVis 2016 STAR reports will be published
in Computer Graphics Forum. State-of-the-Art Reports (STARs) are intended
to provide up-to-date and comprehensive surveys on topics of interest to the
visualization research community. We encourage the submission of STARs on
topics that have not yet been covered in any recent previous STAR or other
survey. We welcome submissions that introduce emerging technologies, as
well as proposals on more traditional visualization topics. We also welcome
contributions from related disciplines and application areas demonstrating
contributions to, or benefits from, the area of visualization including, but
not limited to, visual computing, computer graphics, human-computer
interaction, virtual reality, image processing, computer vision, psychology,
geography, chemistry, computational fluid dynamics, data analysis,
computational sciences, medicine, biology, economy, politology, etc.
As part of the acceptance process into Computer Graphics Forum, STARs will
undergo a multi-stage process. First, authors are being asked to submit an
initial sketch. A STAR sketch briefly describes the planned STAR by
outlining the topic, discussing its relevance for the visualization
community, providing the planned structure and outline of the STAR together
with all key references, and short biographies of the authors. The length of
a STAR sketch is limited to three pages whereby the last page may only
contain references. The format of the sketch can be found at
http://www.cs.rug.nl/jbi/eurovis2016/ForSubmitters/SubmissionGuidelines.
STAR sketches will be reviewed by the STAR program co-chairs for suitability
and relevance, and the authors of accepted sketches will be invited to
submit a full STAR. Full STAR submissions will then undergo a single blind,
double cycle review, similar to the one for regular papers, where three
external experts on the respective topic will evaluate the STAR. Full
submissions are 25 pages maximum.
Electronic submission of the STAR sketch and full proposal is mandatory and
will be conducted using <https://precisionconference.com/~vgtc/>
https://precisionconference.com/~vgtc/ according to the guidelines defined
at
<http://www.cs.rug.nl/jbi/eurovis2016/ForSubmitters/SubmissionGuidelines>
http://www.cs.rug.nl/jbi/eurovis2016/ForSubmitters/SubmissionGuidelines
We plan to schedule each STAR as a 50-100 minute presentation as in
Eurographics conferences (subject to the schedule management of the EuroVis
2016 program). In any circumstance, a STAR presentation will always be given
a longer time slot than that for a full paper.
For any questions concerning STAR submissions please contact the STARs
co-chairs: eurovis2016_star(a)list.rug.nl
Important Dates
Submission of STAR sketch (up to 3 pages): Extended to December 15, 2015

** VACANCIES: POSTGRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIPS **
The School of Computing, Mathematics and Digital Technology at Manchester
Metropolitan University is making a targeted, strategic investment in
academic positions, in order to both strengthen our growing reputation in
applied research, and continue to provide an excellent level of support for
taught courses. These posts address both priorities by combining a part-time
PhD programme with ten hours per week (on average) of teaching support. At
the completion of the contract, the successful candidate will have gained
both a doctoral qualification and significant teaching experience.
