Dear Collegues, The current Call will close on November 30th, 2016. Candidates will be PhD Theses defended and mainly conducted in Europe or in countries having a Eurographics Chapter or in EG Organizational Member Institutions ( <https://www.eg.org/index.php/about-eg/local-chapters> https://www.eg.org/index.php/about-eg/local-chapters ). Theses defended and awarded the degree from May 1st, 2015, up October 31st, 2016, are eligible in this edition. The required documentation includes: 1. The Thesis in English, or a link to the corresponding entry in the EG Digital Library. 2. Names and contact details of four possible reviewers, of which at least one is not the Thesis supervisor or one of the examiners or a co-author in a publication resulting from the thesis. Also, a new wave of information is underway: low-cost 3D scanners, 3D printers, and powerful modeling software have made 3D models appeal to an increasing audience. Repositories of 3D objects are rapidly growing in both number and size. Yet, the task of exploring such large 3D repositories and retrieving the models of interest remains a challenging problem. It is crucial to develop algorithms for content-based searching of 3D object collections; creating compact and accurate descriptors for 3D objects; creating efficient storage structures for databases of 3D objects; investigating theoretical aspects of practical importance, such as the definition of the similarity concept; interfaces for content-based 3D object search; visualization techniques for 3D search results; real time aspects of techniques and algorithms; new challenges such as faceted 3D browsing, social search, and navigation of hybrid datasets. The complex yet concrete problems above are drawing increasing attention from the research community. The aim of the 3DOR Workshop series is to stimulate researchers from different fields such as Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Machine Learning, Cognitive Science and Human-Computer Interaction who work on or are interested in 3D object retrieval search and exploration, to present state-of-the-art work in the field or learn about it and participate in discussions. This will provide a cross-fertilization that will stimulate discussions on the next steps in this important research area. 3DOR 2017 will be the 10th workshop in this series. Call for Papers -------------------------------------------- Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished research and application papers addressing all areas of 3D Object Retrieval. Submissions are invited in the form of full papers (up to 8 pages) and short papers presented in a poster session (up to 4 pages). All accepted papers will be published in the EG Digital Library. *This year, extended versions of the full papers will be submitted for a special issue of Computers and Graphics published by Elsevier, based on the reviewers comments and on the feedback from the 3DOR workshop. To tackle this problem, geovisualization uses methods based on human perception and cognition to show the underlying meaning of spatio-‐temporal datasets. This PhD thesis proposes to explore visualization methods in various 3D environments (Desktop, VR, AR, SAR) to find the best solution for a given user task (exploration, decision) at a given urban scale (building, street, district, etc.). The data model will be based on standards currently used in GIS and/or BIM communities. User tests will be conducted to evaluate the quality of proposed solutions. Spring Conference on Computer Graphics 2017 Call for Papers Spring Conference on Computer Graphics is the oldest annual meeting of computer graphics researchers in Central Europe with 33 years of tradition. It is a highly successful venue for sharing ideas and research results among computer graphics researchers and practitioners from Europe and around the world. The philosophy of SCCG is to put together top experts with young researchers and to support a good communication channel for East-West exchange of prospective ideas. We invite the authors to submit their original scientific papers to the conference. The conference topics include: rendering, modeling, animation, image processing, vision, visualization, interaction, digital fabrication, and virtual reality. All submission will be made through the new PCS conference management system (new.precisionconference.com). After the first review round the international program committee will nominate the papers adhering to high quality standards for a publication in a special issue of Elseviers Computers and Graphics journal. The second review cycle for these papers will be handled through the Elsevier editorial system. The remaining accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings that will be part of the ACM Digital Library. Max Planck Institute for Informatics The Max Planck Center for Visual Computing and Communication (MPC-VCC) was established as a joint program by the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science (MPG) and Stanford University in 2003 (http://www.mpc-vcc.org). With this call the Max Planck Center for Visual Computing and Communication (MPC-VCC) invites applications for its Junior Research Group Program Our Junior Research Group program offers young scientists in information technology the opportunity to develop their own research program addressing important problems in areas such as · image communication · computer graphics · geometric computing · imaging systems · computer vision · human machine interface · distributed multimedia architectures · multimedia networking · visual media security. The center includes an outstanding group of faculty members at Stanfords Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Departments, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, and Saarland University. The program begins with a preparatory 1-2 year postdoc phase (Phase P) at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, followed by a two-year appointment at Stanford University (Phase I) as a visiting assistant professor, and then a position at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics as a junior research group leader (Phase II). However, the program can be entered flexibly at each phase, commensurate with the experience of the applicant. Applicants to the program must have completed an outstanding PhD. Exact duration of the preparatory postdoc phase is flexible, but we typically expect this to be about 1-2 years. Applicants who completed their PhD in Germany may enter Phase I of the program directly. Applicants for Phase II are expected to have completed a postdoc stay abroad and must have demonstrated their outstanding research potential and ability to successfully lead a research group. IST AUSTRIA TRAVEL AWARD FOR SIGGRAPH STUDENT VOLUNTEERS

In an initiative to help support the participation of European students at the 2017 SIGGRAPH conference, the Institute of Science and Technology (IST) Austria is launching a competition to support strong European SIGGRAPH volunteers with travel funds to and from the 2017 SIGGRAPH Conference. All students currently enrolled at institutions in Europe who are also applying to the SIGGRAPH volunteers program are eligible to apply. Application materials are a subset as for the SIGGRAPH volunteers program, and should include a current transcript (official or unofficial) or an enrollment verification letter from your institution's registrar, the name of the school and program you are currently enrolled in, expected graduation year, and a short statement answering the following two questions: 1) The SIGGRAPH Student Volunteer Program brings in students from all over the world each year who are passionate about computer graphics, service-oriented, and inspired to be the industry leaders of tomorrow. Tell us why you would like to be considered for participation in the SIGGRAPH Student Volunteer Program. What interests you about SIGGRAPH in particular, and why would you be a good fit for our team this year? 2) SIGGRAPH brings in thousands of attendees from all over the world every year.
