to maintain anonymity. Reviewers are asked to keep confidential all
materials sent to them for evaluation.
Note that there is no maximum length imposed on papers. However, papers
should only be as long as they need to be, but not longer. Reviewers might
rank submissions perceived as being either repetitive or unnecessarily long
lower than they would score concisely written papers.
Double Submission Policy
Authors are required to include a declaration stating that the scientific
contribution of their work is original: this means that no paper with
similar results has been published, or is submitted for consideration at
another venue during the review period of Eurographics 2017. Any paper that
does not adhere to these requirements will be rejected without review.
Re-Submitted Material
For papers that have previously been reviewed by other venues and have been
rejected or withdrawn, the authors are encouraged to provide a cover letter
to describe the history of the paper (however, this does not imply reviewer
continuity). This cover letter can also answer the comments made in the
previous reviews, by either listing the changes that were made to comply
with them, or discussing/rebutting/clarifying some elements if need be.
Though not mandatory, this procedure is strongly encouraged. The cover
letter has to be submitted through SRM as an Additional Attachment (see
last section of the SRM upload form for details).
Rebuttal, Notification, Publication, and Prizes
* The reviews will be made available to the authors on December 1st,

PhD Position "Optimising 3D Light Transport" at Delft University of
Technology
Job description
Controlling light in an environment is a difficult task, since many aspects
such as materials, light sources, and arrangement have to be considered. The
main objective of our work is to produce novel, interactive solutions for
high-performance light transport computations and accompanying visual
analysis. We will investigate practical aspects, such as efficient
ray-tracing solutions, and search for a theoretical understanding of the
underlying methodologies to derive controllable tradeoffs between accuracy
and performance. To this extent, we will address the problem from various
angles. First, we opt for new hierarchical approaches and alternative
representations for visibility and transport queries. We recently presented
compact and compressed scene representations and intend to adapt their use
to light transport. Here, we will also focus on alternative representations
of material properties, which are a key ingredient for an efficient and
accurate multi-scale light transport. Secondly, we intend to explore
efficient use of multi-core environments and progressive rendering
solutions. The candidate will have access to a dedicated computer cluster
environment. Third, we want to build upon recent signal reconstruction
techniques to minimise the computational cost of the overall process.
Finally, we will develop specialised techniques to support light transport
analysis and facilitate scene setups.
Requirements
We are looking for a candidate who meets the following requirements:
. You are a talented and enthusiastic researcher.
. You have experience with or a strong background in computer graphics,
high-performance computing, and image processing.
. Preferably you have a Master degree in Computer Science, (Applied)
Mathematics, (Applied) Physics or Electrical Engineering.
. You have excellent programming skills and experience (e.g. C++, OpenGL).
. You have good communication skills and the attitude to participate
successfully in the work of a multidisciplinary research team.
. You are creative, ambitious, hardworking and persistent.
. You have a good command of the English language (knowledge of Dutch is not
required).

Context:
The understanding of complex spatio-temporal urban data is a critical
challenge in urban planning as the stakeholders have to take into account
numerous constraints related to various domains embedding sustainable,
social and economical concerns.
To tackle this problem, geovisualization uses methods based on human
perception and cognition to show the underlying meaning of spatio-temporal
datasets. This PhD thesis proposes to explore visualization methods in
various 3D environments (Desktop, VR, AR, SAR) to find the best solution for
a given user task (exploration, decision) at a given urban scale (building,
street, district, etc.).

======================================================
The annual EGUK conference is a meeting place for all those in the UK
working in computer graphics and visual computing. It attracts researchers
from across the country and from further afield.
The 2016 conference Computer Graphics & Visual Computing will be an
overnight meeting (lunchtime to lunchtime). The conference wants to focus on
increasing the dialogue between academic research groups, researchers in
academic and in industrial developments. In order to facilitate such
dialogue, we are seeking contributions mainly in the form of extended
abstract and industrial demonstrations. However, we also welcome submissions
of full papers.
Full papers - a paper of 4 to 8 pages describing completed research. Papers
will be refereed by members of the EGUK programme committee. Authors of
accepted papers will be expected to give a 20 minute presentation at the
conference. Accepted papers will appear in the Eurographics digital library
and will count as full paper publications.
Extended abstract - an abstract of up to 1000 words, plus figures and
references. An extended abstract can describe work in progress, interim
results, industrial work, or research presented more fully elsewhere.
Extended abstracts will also be refereed by a panel drawn from the EGUK
programme committee. All accepted extended abstracts will be presented as
posters in a poster session and authors of selected submissions will also be
expected to give a 15 minute presentation at the conference.
Industrial project abstracts - a technical abstract of 1 to 4 pages,
demonstrating implementations and/or product development. Technical
abstracts will be presented at the conference site as large format posters
during a poster session.
Accepted abstracts will appear in the Eurographics digital library. An
extended abstract and industrial project abstract will not be considered as
a full paper publication, instead being similar to a SIGGRAPH one‐page
sketch or to a conference poster without an associated paper. As such,
presenting an extended abstract at this conference has no effect on your
ability to publish a fuller version of the same work in another venue. See
full instruction at the conference website.

Call for papers UDMV2016
The objective of this workshop is to discuss the modelling and visualisation
of the city at various temporal and spatial scales and aims at sharing
associated techniques, methods, uses and points of view. Managing and
understanding urban data are major issues as they are represented by several
kind of different data at different scales. Urban data not only embed the
geometry of the city model, but also data related to human activities (e.g.
social data, transportation, mobility, history), to physical phenomena (e.g.
light, wind, heat), and to environment (e.g. geography, climate).
Thus, their processing is a big challenge for current GIS and computing
capabilities, especially considering all the sustainable development
parameters related to architectural design, urban planning and urban climate
studies; but also considering the specific needs of entertainment, cultural
heritage or any domains using urban data. The workshop aims to gather in a
same place GIS, BIM and computer graphics communities.
Important dates
July 20, 2016: Paper submission
September 5, 2016: Author notification
October 10, 2016: Camera-ready paper
December 8, 2016: Workshop
Location
Following the success of the 3rd workshop on Urban Data Modelling and
Visualisation as a single event in Delft, NL, the 4th edition of the
workshop is organised by the Faculty of Architecture and the Geomatics Unit
of the University of Liège. Under the auspice of the Eurographics
organization, the workshop will be held on December 8th in Liège, Belgium.
Once again, we expect fruitful exchanges by the involvement of the computer
graphics, the geoinformation and the GIS communities.
Contributions addressing the following topics are welcome:
Modelling the static and dynamic features of the city (spatio-temporal
data)
Multi-scale geometric data (from building scale to urban scale)
Multi-scale temporal data (from real time to history time)
Visualisation of several urban data layers (aggregated indicators)
Visual analytics using urban data (decision making processes and CAD)
Publications

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Bath seeks a
Professor of Visual Computing. The successful candidate will be an
internationally leading academic who will contribute to leading and
enhancing the Department. The Department is structured in four groups:
Visual Computing, Human-Computer Interaction, Intelligent Systems and
Mathematical Foundations.
Currently including seven academic staff and associated researchers, the
Visual Computing group has broad interests bound together by the
contemporary movement of vision and graphics convergence. Research includes
body and face tracking, motion capture, acquisition of natural phenomena and
buildings, 3D geometry, 2D shape, and object recognition. The group
regularly publishes in leading conferences and journals. It currently holds
over £12M in research funding, including the new EPSRC Centre for the
Analysis of Motion, Entertainment Research and Applications (CAMERA). In
addition, the group hosts the £20M Centre for Digital Entertainment (CDE),
in which research students are co-supervised by world-leading industrial
researchers.
Partners include The Imaginarium, The Foundry, the BBC, Double Negative, and
many others. The group enjoys collaborations with academics including
Cardiff, Loughborough, UCL, Tsinghua, Zhejiang and KAUST. The group also
contributes to the international community through its work on steering
committees, editing journals and other activities.
This opportunity arises following the retirement of Professor Phil Willis,
Director of the CDE. The successful candidate may assume the Directorship of
the CDE, subject to negotiation with the University and EPSRC. The
successful candidate will also be expected to conduct excellent research,
with the ability and desire to collaborate effectively and productively with
colleagues across the University and beyond.
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to engage with our
existing research activities. The post holder will also be expected to take
the lead in developing his or her own research funding portfolio from
appropriate national and international sources, and to carry out and
supervise research in line with the Departments strategy and targets.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to teaching at undergraduate
and postgraduate levels and should be able to demonstrate a continuing
commitment to maintaining the Universitys high standards in teaching and
learning, with the ability to educate and inspire some of the brightest
students in the country.
The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the leadership and
management of the Department and group.
The Department and University are committed to providing a supportive and
inclusive working environment. We are working to improve the gender balance
within the Department and particularly welcome applications from women.
Interviews will be held as soon as possible after the closing date for
applications.
