Call for Tutorials
The Eurographics 2015 Tutorials Committee invites you to propose tutorials
teaching the technical background of a given subject, or demonstrating its
potential creative applications. Tutorials are intended to show what can be
done, but even more importantly, how this is done and what kind of tools can
be used to do it. In a proposal for a tutorial you should consider that
tutorial attendees come from diverse backgrounds, ranging from research and
development to education and application.
We are soliciting half-day and full-day tutorial proposals at the beginning,
intermediate, or advanced level in all areas pertinent to Computer Graphics.
Half-day tutorials are about three hours, plus a coffee break in the middle.
Full-day tutorials are twice that long, plus two coffee breaks and a longer
lunch break. Full-day tutorials should be motivated by sufficient scientific
material. Tutorial proposals are about 4-5 pages in length, clearly
indicating the audience that is addressed as well as the syllabus of
instruction. They will be reviewed by the tutorial chairs, supported by
external reviewers. The final selection will be based on quality of the
submission, qualification of the presenters, relevance to the conference
topics, and balance of topics.
Each accepted half day tutorial will be granted a free conference
registration for one speaker, while each full-day tutorial will be granted a
maximum of two free conference registrations.
For any question concerning tutorial submissions please contact the tutorial
co-chairs (see below).
Submission Details
Tutorial proposals (in PDF) should be submitted via email to the tutorial
co-chairs. The full proposal (4-5 pages) should be submitted by Friday,
October 28th 2016. The acceptance notification date is Friday, December 2nd,
2016. The full proposal should contain the following information:
Presenter(s) details:
Name(s)
Institution(s)
email address(es)
URL(s)

Eurographics 2017 Call for State of the Art Reports
Accepted STARs will be published in Computer Graphics Forum
State-of-the-Art Reports (STARs) provide an up-to-date and comprehensive
overview of a special topic of current interest related to Computer
Graphics. We welcome submissions on all topics relevant to EUROGRAPHICS, and
particularly encourage STARs on topics that have not been covered in any
recent previous STAR. A STAR can also address the use of Computer Graphics
techniques in a different scientific discipline or in industrial practice.
For examples of suitable STAR topics, please refer to the EUROGRAPHICS
digital library.
At EUROGRAPHICS 2017, the authors of a STAR will be given 90 minutes to
present the report at a level that also allows non-experts in the particular
domain to follow this presentation.
For any questions concerning STAR submissions please contact the STARs
co-chairs Matthias Zwicker and Victor Ostromoukhov :
<mailto:chairs-eg2017stars@eg.org> chairs-eg2017stars(a)eg.org
Submission Details
This year, STARs will undergo a single-blind, double cycle review, similar
to the one for regular papers. Hence, there is no need to prepare a STAR
proposal first. Instead, authors must submit their full-length STAR. We do
not impose strict maximum lengths for these submissions. However, it is
recommended that papers be up to 20 pages excluding references and the
authors' short bios, to conform to the general recommendation for CGF survey
papers. Each STAR will be reviewed by three members of the IPC who are
experts in the respective topic. Accepted STARs will be published in a
special issue of Computer Graphics Forum, which appears right before the
Eurographics conference. Submissions needing a major revision will be
transferred to the standard submission track of Computer Graphics Forum.
To demonstrate the relevant expertise needed to produce the proposed STAR,
authors are required to submit the brief biographies of all authors as a
piece of supplementary materials.
Electronic submissions of STARs is mandatory and will be conducted using the
<https://srmv2.eg.org/COMFy/Conference/EG_2017STARs> Submission and Review
Management System (SRMv2).
The deadline for the submission of STAR proposals is 23:59 UTC/GMT,
September 17th 2016, with notification of conditional acceptance on December
23rd, 2016. The revised version of conditionally accepted STARs will have to
be submitted at a later date for a second review, and the camera ready
version will be due about 6 weeks before the start of the conference.
We strongly encourage the authors to submit a short abstract before
September 1st, 2016.

Title : Extraction and analysis of geometric and photometric properties for
the classification of
materials of 3d objects digitized under uncontrolled lighting conditions
Host team : IGG (Computer Graphics and Geometry groupe) at ICube Lab

<mailto:dischler@unistra.fr> dischler(a)unistra.fr
Co-advisor : Rémi Allègre, Associate Professor in Computer Science -
<mailto:allegre@unistra.fr> allegre(a)unistra.fr
Prerequisites : Computer graphics and geometric modeling
Abstract : The media content production industry is in increasing demand of
tools for creating complex geometric models with realistic appearances more
rapidly and more efficiently. While current 3d digitization technologies for
real objects considerably simplify the process of creating 3d models,
especially for geometry, there is a lot of room for improvement in the field
of appearance processing and representation. In this context, it is highly
desirable that photometric acquisitions be performed in an uncontrolled
lighting environment, and that the appearance of the models be represented
by texture layers that fit the requirements of commercially available
rendering engines. Existing techniques however only reconstruct approximate
reflectance and sophisticated reflectance models do not easily comply with
texture layers representations.
The goal of this thesis is to devise a new processing pipeline in two
stages. The first stage will consist in accurately extracting the geometric
and photometric properties of a 3d object digitized under uncontrolled
lighting conditions (geometry, normals, diffuse color, specularity,
occlusion), as well as storing them in texture maps. The second stage will
consist in analyzing these properties in order to provide a classification
of the materials as close as possible to the reality over the whole surface
of a digitized object. This classification will be used as input for texture
synthesis algorithms developed in the IGG group.
