Overview of RISE’s Doctoral Training Program
RISE’s Doctoral Training Program (DTP) kicked off in 2019 providing the best possible experience of impactful collaboration, following best practices from across Europe. RISE’s DTP is a far more valuable and engaging experience compared to working only with an individual supervisor or a small group in a University. The RISE DTP experience provides a collaborative cohort environment, in addition to offering a wide range of projects, research and innovation activities and training opportunities fostering knowledge transfer and student engagement with the wider community and the partner institutions.
RISE’s DTP includes an in-house program for supporting and guiding PhD students who will be registered at a University of the RISE consortium (University of Cyprus, Cyprus University of Technology or Open University of Cyprus). The in-house program allows students to participate in scientific colloquia, research presentations, mobility activities and visits, joint supervision of PhDs, and joint projects organized in collaboration with RISE’s advanced partners (UCL and Max Planck) and other members of its developing network. RISE will also facilitate the development and innovation of research ideas and outcomes and provide mentoring opportunities (e.g., peer feedback, guidance by senior researchers).
Indicative list of DTP courses:
1. Project Management
2. Innovation, Entrepreneurial and Intrapreneurial skills for Research Engineers
3. Product from Concept to Market
4. IP Protection Workshop: Key IP, commercialization, methods for Higher Education: licensing, spin-ins and spin-outs
5. Research Methods and Research Ethics
6. Science communication and dissemination
7. Grant-writing
8. Other seminars
RISE DTP will aim to provide a direct link to the advanced partners via short-term placements at their premises. RISE DTP will support PhD students’ participation in conferences and study visits at established research centres across Europe.
RISE will award a certificate for the participation in the RISE DTP program.

Update regarding COVID-19 situation:
--------------
We realize the difficulty posed to authors by the current situation, with
most of us striving to keep healthy and other tasks take a lesser priority.
Travelling has become particularly challenging. At the same time, we intend
to keep the 3DOR Workshop alive and uphold its 12-year history. We were
particularly encouraged by the 10 SHREC tracks that are being organized this
year. We are thus taking the following steps:
One month extension to the full paper deadline based on a 2-stage
submission: abstract by the original deadline of 3rd April 2020 and full
paper by 3rd May 2020. Applies also to SHREC papers.
Enable on-line participation for authors that cannot physically make it to
Graz in September.
New this year:
--------------
In 2020, full paper submissions will follow a two-stage review process and
will be published in Computes & Graphics (Elsevier).
3DOR is the dedicated workshop series for methods, applications and
benchmark-based evaluation of 3D object retrieval, classification, and
similarity-based object processing. The workshop also includes the 2020
edition of the 3D Shape Retrieval Contest, keynotes, project presentations,

3D Object Retrieval Workshop Series
-----------------------------------
From the very beginning, the aim of the 3DOR Workshop series is to stimulate
researchers to present state-of-the-art work, learn about or discuss topics
in the field 3D object retrieval, search and exploration in a
multi-disciplinary context of expertise such as Computer Vision, Computer
Graphics, Machine Learning, Cognitive Science and Human-Computer
Interaction. 3DOR provides a cross-fertilization that will stimulate
discussions on the next steps in this important research area. 3DOR 2020
will be the 13th workshop in this series.
Search engines are now the default way in which most people engage with
information, as the vast majority of information is born digital. 3D digital
content is today pervasive: low-cost 3D scanners, 3D printers, and powerful
modelling software have made 3D models appeal to an increasing audience.
Repositories of 3D objects are rapidly growing in both number and size.
Time-dependant acquisition, animation and simulation give rise to 3D objects
as a function of time, yielding 4D objects. Yet, the task of exploring such
large 3D/4D object repositories and retrieving the models of interest
remains a challenging problem. It is crucial to develop algorithms for
content-based searching of 3D object collections; creating compact and
accurate descriptors for 3D objects; creating efficient storage structures
for databases of 3D objects; investigating theoretical aspects of practical
importance, such as the definition of the similarity concept; interfaces for
content-based 3D object search; visualization techniques for 3D search
results; real time aspects of techniques and algorithms; new challenges such
as faceted 3D browsing, social search and navigation of hybrid datasets. The
complex yet concrete problems above are drawing increasing attention from
the research community, which is becoming more and more varied in terms of
disciplines needed to solve various facets of the challenges.
The 3DOR Workshop series has been characterized since the beginning by a
specific attention to benchmarking with the organization of the session on
the 3D Shape Retrieval Contest (SHREC). The general objective of the 3D
Shape Retrieval Contest is to evaluate the effectiveness of 3D-shape
retrieval methods and algorithms. SHREC 2020 is the 15th edition of the
contest. As in previous years, it is organized in conjunction with the
Eurographics Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval. Results papers from SHREC
tracks will be reviewed in a two stage-review process, like regular full
papers (see below). A separate call for participation in SHREC will be
issued shortly.

The Computer Graphics Group at Bielefeld University, Germany, is offering a
two-year full-time post-doc position in the field of Geometric Learning,
starting as soon as possible.
In a collaboration with the Honda Research Institute Europe we investigate
novel geometry representations for describing 3D models with few, but
geometrically meaningful parameters. By combining this representation with
machine learning we will analyze and manipulate families of geometric
models, for instance to transfer the style of one class of objects to
another class. The candidate will work at Bielefeld University most of the
time, but will also have the opportunity to spend several weeks per year at
the Honda Research Institute Europe (in Offenbach, near Frankfurt) in order
to intensify the collaboration and to gain insight into their research
environment and scientific challenges.

CLIPE (Creating Lively Interactive Populated Environments)
CLIPE ( http://clipe-itn.eu/ ) is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative
Training Network in the framework of Horizon 2020, starting on March 1st,
2020 with a four-year duration. The network consists of 9
universities/research centers and 5 industrial partners.
The primary objective of CLIPE is to train a generation of innovators and
researchers in the field of virtual characters simulation and animation.
Advances in technology are pushing towards making VR/AR worlds a daily
experience. Whilst virtual characters are an important component of these
worlds, bringing them to life and giving them interaction and communication
abilities requires highly specialized programming combined with artistic
skills, and considerable investments: millions spent on countless coders and
designers to develop video-games is a typical example. The research
objective of CLIPE is to design the next-generation of VR-ready characters.
CLIPE is addressing the most important current aspects of the problem,
making the characters capable of:
* behaving more naturally;
* interacting with real users sharing a virtual experience with them;
* being more intuitively and extensively controllable for virtual worlds
designers.
To meet our objectives, the CLIPE consortium gathers some of the main
European actors in the field of VR/AR, computer graphics, computer
animation, psychology and perception. CLIPE also extends its partnership to
key industrial actors of populated virtual worlds, giving students the
ability to explore new application fields and start collaborations beyond
academia.
Starting date is by September 2020. For more information about the project
can be found in the attached file, and in the project web site:
<http://clipe-itn.eu/> http://clipe-itn.eu/
Note: the developing COVID-19 situation makes it unlikely that this year’s EGSR is going to take place in its usual format. We are currently evaluating available options for remote attendance. Due to these uncertainties, authors of accepted papers this year are not required to present their work in person and may elect to present remotely instead. We encourage authors to submit work to EGSR even if they do not think they will be able or willing to attend in person due to the virus situation and/or travel restrictions that may be in place at the time.
*** Research Track ***
A PDF version of Research Track call for papers is available to download from here <https://egsr2020.london/call-for-papers/research.pdf> .
The Eurographics Symposium on Rendering 2020 will take place in London, England from June 30th to July 2nd, 2020. This 31th event continues the series of highly successful Eurographics Symposia and Workshops on Rendering.
All accepted research papers will be presented at EGSR 2020 and archived in the Eurographics digital library (exact publication modalities pending). Furthermore, a selection of accepted papers will be published in an issue of the Computer Graphics Forum (CGF) journal, based on both the recommendations of the reviewers and the outcome of a second cycle of review.
We are looking for work that shapes the future of rendering in computer graphics and related fields, such as virtual and augmented reality, deep learning, and computational photography.
There is no fixed minimum or maximum paper length. However, submissions over 12 pages in length will be treated as exceptional cases, and length must be proportional to contribution.
For each submitted paper, a minimum of 3 reviews will be provided to the authors, who will then be able to provide a rebuttal to clarify misunderstandings and answer the reviewers’ questions. The reviewers will then discuss and decide on the acceptance of the paper to the EGSR 2020 program. In the event of acceptance, the authors will submit a revised version of their manuscript prior to the conference.

Dear Eurographics members,
Due to the current coronavirus pandemic the Eurographics Executive Board and
the EuroVis Steering Committee, in discussion with the conference organizing
committee chairs Anders Ynnerman, Jonas Unger, Ingrid Hotz and Patric Ljung,
have decided to hold EGEV, the joint Eurographics/EuroVis conference 2020,
as a virtual meeting rather than a physical meeting. We understand that this
will cause some disruption in travel plans, but we believe it to be a
necessary decision.
We are currently defining the details of the organization of the
virtual-only conference, as we view it as essential that the authors of
accepted submissions be given every opportunity to present their work. Once
we have finalized the arrangements, we will post them on the EGEV 2020
website.
Eurographics also plans to support all collocated workshops in virtual form,
we are in the process of discussing arrangements with their Steering
Committees. This will also be the case for all other workshops during this
year that cannot happen physically due to the Corona crisis.
We apologise for this unprecedented action, but it is now clear that these
steps must be taken. If you have any questions about the process, please
wait until we have posted details on the website, then contact either the
conference organisers, myself as President or Hamish Carr as Secretary.
We trust that you will all understand the situation, and look forward to
seeing you at the earliest possible opportunity.
- Oliver Deussen

Paneling of Architectural Freeform Surfaces" and "Flexible Quad-Surfaces for
Transformable Design".
The context of this project is an interdisciplinary research programme where
we aim to develop advanced computational design tools for the early design
phase in Architecture, Engineering and Construction.
This is the second round of applications, which is open till March 15, 2020
23:59 (CET), but please contact me if you miss the deadline and still would
like to apply.
Would you be so kind to distribute this job offer amongst your scientific
colleagues and potential candidates?
Thanks,
