Call for Papers: CGVC 2021

_with grovelling apologies for cross-posting_ CGVC 2021, hosted by the University of Lincoln (UK), is the 39th annual computer graphics, visualization, and visual computing conference organized by the Eurographics UK Chapter. The objective of Computer Graphics & Visual Computing (CGVC) is to foster greater exchange between visual computing researchers and practitioners, to welcome more researchers and industry partners in the UK, Europe, and beyond into this rapidly growing area of research. CGVC's scope includes all areas of visual computing, and a steadily more wide-spread visibility that achieves a more wide-spread impact. Submission Deadline: 4th June 2021 Notification of Acceptance: 23rd July 2021 Camera Ready: 6th August Conference (online & in-person): 8-10 September 2021 More info: https://cgvc.org.uk/CGVC2021/ Call for Papers We welcome contributions in the form of full papers, short papers, viewpoint papers and extended abstracts (posters). Submissions are optionally single- or double-blind: authors may choose whether to anonymize their submission or not. Reviewers’ identities are not revealed. Full Papers A full paper submission is upto 8 pages describing completed research, plus 1 page of references only. Papers are refereed by members of the EGUK programme committee. Authors of accepted papers are expected to give a 20-minute presentation at the conference. Accepted papers will appear in the Eurographics digital library and will serve as full paper publications. Short Papers The purpose of short papers is to present late-breaking results, work-in -progress, and follow-up extensions or evaluations of existing methods. Short papers will be peer-reviewed in a one-stage process by an international programme committee. They will be electronically archived and are fully citable publications. Submissions for the short paper track should be at most 4 pages, with an additional page allowed for references. Accepted short papers will be presented orally at the conference in (approximately) 12-15 minute presentations. Viewpoint Papers CGVC also features a viewpoint paper track (also known as position paper) which enables researchers a new possibility to publish their ideas. Viewpoints articles offer detailed technical opinions on trends in visual computing or reports on how visual computing has contributed to the comprehension of data or phenomena. We encourage discussions of challenges or limitations in today's methods and areas of potential new research topics. We are also interested in application discussions that focus on the physical, life or social sciences, engineering, or commerce, for example, or related to the process of visual computing in general. We encourage an emphasis on lessons learned from practical experience for application discussions, particularly where visual computing has been employed in a real, working environment. Viewpoint papers are submitted with author names and affiliations. Accepted viewpoint papers will be electronically archived, are fully citable publications and will be presented orally at the conference in (approximately) 12-15 minute presentations. Extended Abstracts / Posters The purpose of this track is to present late-breaking results, work in progress, and follow-up extensions or evaluations of existing methods. In particular, it provides young researchers, especially postgraduate students, with valuable opportunities to receive feedback from other researchers, and engage in stimulating discussions. The poster track will be managed by the co-chair team and the International Programme Committee (IPC). We solicit poster submissions in the form of an extended abstract of at most 2 pages (with an additional page allowed for references only). Posters will be peer-reviewed in a one-stage process. Accepted posters, size A1 recommended, will be presented at the poster viewing session of the conference. In addition to directly submitted posters, some submissions to the full, short and viewpoint paper tracks, that are not accepted for publication but are deemed suitable, will be offered an opportunity to be presented as posters. Such submissions will not require an additional review process. Traditionally, the materials in a poster/sketch can be reused later by the original authors for a more extensive publication (i.e., a full paper) with more detailed content and mature results. This should not be considered as self-plagiarism. However, as posters/sketches are citable, researchers are encouraged to acknowledge novel ideas and results presented in posters/sketches. A poster may describe a piece of work in any aspect of visual computing. For posters, we particularly encourage a summary report of collaborative projects, work-in-progress, and application case studies. Accepted abstracts do not appear in the Eurographics digital library. An extended abstract and industrial project abstract are not considered as a paper publication, instead being similar to a SIGGRAPH one‐page sketch or to a conference poster without an associated paper. As such, presenting an extended abstract at this conference has no effect on your ability to publish a fuller version of the same work in another venue. EG VCBM 2021 Call for Papers <http://www.vcbm.org/> http://www.vcbm.org/ Eurographics Workshop on Visual Computing for Biology and Medicine 2021 in Paris, France and online. * Workshop Dates: September 22 - September 24, 2021 * Submission Deadline (full, survey, and short papers): July 2, 2021 Aims and Scope EG VCBM (http://www.vcbm.org/), the Eurographics Workshop on Visual Computing for Biology and Medicine, is an annual event addressing the state of the art in visual computing research with a strong focus on applications in biology and medicine. It provides an interdisciplinary forum for experts (researchers and practitioners) from visualization, visual analytics, computer graphics, image processing, computer vision, human computer interfaces as well as experts from biology and medicine, jointly working on next generation visual computing solutions for medicine, healthcare and the biotechnology sector. This years workshop (already the 11th VCBM since its foundation in 2008) will be held from September 22 to September 24, 2021, in Paris, France. We currently hope to have a hybrid event at which people can meet in person in Paris. In any case, there will be an option to attend this years VCBM virtually for those who may not be able to travel. EG VCBM solicits the submission of original, application-oriented research papers that advance the fusion of visual computing methods within medicine and biology. All papers (regular papers as well as short papers) should focus on a well-defined biological/medical problem, and demonstrate a significant innovation or improvement in visual computing. Suggested topics for full and short papers include, but are not limited to: * Visual computing solutions for medical applications like radiology, surgery, pathology, cardiology, nephrology, neurology, etc., including medical education * Visual computing solutions for applications that support biomedical research in systems biology, *omics research, molecular pathology, neuroanatomy, biomedical imaging, etc. * The use of virtual reality and augmented reality in biomedical applications (e.g., for surgical procedures, molecular visualization) * Visualization approaches for data from new or challenging imaging modalities (e.g., real-time ultrasound, CyTOF, Spectroscopy, layer fMRI) * Visual computing solutions in the context of the virtual physiological human. * Medical simulation and visual computing solutions that support new approaches in computational medicine. * Visual analytics in Behavioral Biology (e.g., collective behaviour) or epidemiology (e.g., population studies) In addition to that, we solicit: * Survey papers on visual computing in biology and medicine Information for Authors In addition to full-length papers, there will again be a short papers track and a survey track, encouraging scientific contributions from an even more diverse group of researchers and practitioners. All VCBM 2021 papers (full, short and surveys) will be peer-reviewed and will appear in the Eurographics Digital Library. We encourage the use of digital videos to support all submissions, particularly if part of, or all of the work covers interactive techniques. Please use only the most common video codecs such as MP4 H.264 to maximize the chances that the reviewers can view it. * Full Papers: We do not impose strict maximum lengths for submitted papers to the full papers track. However, it is unusual for papers to exceed 10 pages (in CGF latex style including all images and references). Papers should only be as long as their content would justify. Reviewers might rate a submission lower if it is perceived as being unnecessarily long or might recommend it for a short paper, instead. Search engines are now the default way in which most people engage with information, as the vast majority of information is born digital. 3D digital content is today pervasive: low-cost 3D scanners, 3D printers, and powerful modelling software have made 3D models appeal to an increasing audience. Repositories of 3D objects are rapidly growing in both number and size. Time-dependant acquisition, animation and simulation give rise to 3D objects as a function of time, yielding 4D objects. Yet, the task of exploring such large 3D/4D object repositories and retrieving the models of interest remains a challenging problem. It is crucial to develop algorithms for content-based searching of 3D object collections; creating compact and accurate descriptors for 3D objects; creating efficient storage structures for databases of 3D objects; investigating theoretical aspects of practical importance, such as the definition of the similarity concept; interfaces for content-based 3D object search; visualization techniques for 3D search results; real time aspects of techniques and algorithms; new challenges such as faceted 3D browsing, social search and navigation of hybrid datasets. The complex yet concrete problems above are drawing increasing attention from the research community, which is becoming more and more varied in terms of disciplines needed to solve various facets of the challenges. The 3DOR Workshop series has been characterized since the beginning by a specific attention to benchmarking with the organization of the session on the 3D Shape Retrieval Contest (SHREC). The general objective of the 3D Shape Retrieval Contest is to evaluate the effectiveness of 3D-shape retrieval methods and algorithms. SHREC 2021 is the 16th edition of the contest. As in previous years, it is organized in conjunction with the Eurographics Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval. Results papers from SHREC tracks will be reviewed in a two stage-review process, like regular full papers (see below). MLVis 2021: Machine Learning Methods in Visualisation - Call For Papers https://www.tuni.fi/mlvis2021/ MLVis 2021 will be a co-located workshop at EuroVis 2021. It aims to bring Machine Learning and Visualization researchers together in order to exchange research ideas. We solicit short papers on machine learning methods in visualisation, from both the machine learning and visualisation communities, addressing how the two technologies can be used together to provide greater insight to end users. Paper submissions for MLVis should be at most 4 pages in MLVis 2021 latex style (provided on the website), with an additional page allowed for references. Papers are to be submitted via the PCS system, link on the website. Proceedings will be published by the Eurographics Association, and be stored on the Eurographics Digital Library. Selected papers may be invited to ACM Transactions on Interactive Intelligent Systems. Important Dates: Submission deadline: April 12, 2021 Notification deadline: May 3, 2021 Camera-ready deadline: May 14, 2021 Workshop: June 14, 2021 All submission deadlines are at 23:59 Anywhere on Earth on the date indicated.
