Call for Papers VCBM 2025

Dear Colleagues, We are happy to announce that the annual Eurographics Symposium on Visual Computing for Biology and Medicine (EG VCBM) will be hosted by TU Delft, Netherlands, on October 2-3, 2025. Note that all accepted full papers and survey papers will be published as journal publications in Computers and Graphics! == Aims and Scope == Work presented at the Eurographics Workshop on Visual Computing for Biology and Medicine EG VCBM [http://vcbm.org/] should reflect the state of the art in visual computing and its applications in biology and medicine. VCBM’s scope encompasses all aspects of visual computing research, technological development, and practices in medicine and life sciences. Relevant topics include the acquisition, processing, visualization, and interpretation of image data in biology and medicine, and the visual analysis and communication of life science data. == Submission types for VCBM 2025 == Submissions for this year’s meeting include short, full, and survey papers. Please see the previous Computers & Graphics special issue [ https://www.sciencedirect.com/special-issue/10S5T4911MR] and previous EG VCBM proceedings [https://diglib.eg.org/handle/10.2312/463] for examples of published papers. We encourage authors to provide supporting information in the form of video and other media. The deadline for full and survey paper submissions is May 2, 2025. Please note that this is one month earlier than in previous years. Furthermore, all accepted full papers and surveys will be featured in a special issue of the journal Computers & Graphics (C&G), necessitating a significantly advanced submission deadline. Full Papers should describe original, application-oriented research that advances the fusion of visual computing methods within medicine and biology. Accepted work will focus on a well-defined biological or medical problem and demonstrate significant innovation or improvement in visual computing. Surveys are long-form submissions addressing new and emerging topics in visual computing, biology, and medicine. == Topics == All aspects relating to the development, application, and practices of visual computing in the life sciences are relevant to the meeting. These include: * Visual computing solutions designed for use by medical, biomedical, and biological practitioners, researchers, and educators. * The use of eXtended Reality (e.g., for surgical procedures, molecular visualization, rehabilitation, and therapy). * Approaches for processing, visual analysis, and communication of data from new or challenging modalities (e.g., real-time ultrasound, CyTOF, Spectroscopy, layer fMRI, single-cell and spatial-omics, environmental monitoring). * Visual computing approaches incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) and explainable AI (XAI). Including but not limited to XAI methods and approaches designed for clinical support on individual and cohort electronic health records * Visual computing solutions that support new approaches for modeling and simulation with applications in medicine and biology. * Workflows and processes leveraging visual computing to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration in biology and medicine. * Visualization and visual storytelling methods designed to communicate healthcare data to patients and laymen, supporting diagnoses interpretation and doctor-patient relationship We encourage the use of digital videos to support all submissions. Please use only the most common video codecs, such as MP4 H.264, to maximize the chances that the reviewers can view them. == Full Papers == We do not impose strict maximum lengths for submitted papers to the full papers track. However, it is unusual for papers to exceed 10 pages (in C&G LaTeX style [1], including all images and references). Papers should only be as long as their content justifies. Reviewers might rate a submission lower if it is perceived as being unnecessarily long or might recommend it for a short paper instead. Authors are encouraged to use supplementary material, such as videos or executable programs, to provide extra content. Authors have to anonymize their submissions. Please note that, in contrast to previous years, we are introducing a mandatory abstract submission (similar to EuroVis or VIS conferences) where the authors are required to submit the paper abstract one week prior to the submission deadline. For abstract submission, the SRM [6] system needs to be used. This means you have to use two systems for your submission: SRM for abstract submission and Editorial Manager for Computers & Graphics for full paper submission. The same applies to Surveys. Instructions regarding the submission process can be found on our website [7]. We remark that submitting a paper without prior abstract submission will lead to desk rejection. *** Apologies for cross-posting *** Come and join us! We are seeking for an engaged and bright PostDoc to work with us in the areas of Information Visualization (InfoVis) and Visual Analytics (VA). The position will be placed in the ISOVIS group (https://cs.lnu.se/isovis/), led by Professor Andreas Kerren, Linnaeus University (https://lnu.se/en), Växjö Campus, Sweden. The postdoc fellow will conduct research at the borderline between the fields of information visualization / visual analytics as well as machine learning in close collaboration with ISOVIS members, other research groups of the department, and domain experts within the Linnaeus University Centre for Data Intensive Sciences and Applications (DISA). Work duties include the whole research cycle, i.e., from literature reviews and the identification of research challenges, throughout the implementation of visualization tools and performing user studies, to the reporting of the results in publications. Thematically, the research interests of the successful candidate can be aligned with the research foci of the group (cf. group web site), but we are especially interested in complementary expertise in the areas of InfoVis/VA and ML. In this context, the postdoc fellow is expected to regularly present intermediate/final research results at international conferences/workshops and publish them in highly-ranked conference proceedings and journals in the areas of information visualization, visual analytics, applied machine learning, but possibly also in the areas of domain experts. To the extent of about 20% of the working time, the postdoc fellow will be involved in teaching activities at different levels and providing visualization support for scientists affiliated to the DISA center or for researchers approaching us through the National Research Infrastructure For Data Visualization (InfraVis; https://infravis.se/). Each submission will be reviewed by an international program committee for technical quality, novelty, significance, and clarity. Papers should be written and presented in English. There is no strict maximum length for submitted papers. However, we recommend that research papers be up to 16 pages (excluding references), and longer papers should make a very significant contribution. Authors are encouraged to use supplementary documents to provide extra content. A paper submission should describe an original work of the authors. Authors must not use ideas or content originating from others without properly crediting their original sources. Optional supplemental material does not count towards this suggested limit. Supplementary material such as videos may also be submitted electronically and will be made available to reviewers (size up to 500MB). Videos are required for techniques involving motion or animation. Submitted articles will receive two rounds of reviewing by at least three (3) expert reviewers. Technical papers conditionally accepted in the first round will undergo a second round of revision and review and, conditional on final acceptance, will be published in the PACMCGIT <https://dl.acm.org/journal/pacmcgit> issue on SCA 2025.
