EG VCBM 2020 - Deadline Extension (Full/Short Papers, Surveys)

The VCBM Paper submission deadline (for full/short papers and surveys) has been extended to July 17. EG VCBM 2020 �C Call for Papers http://www.vcbm.org/ Eurographics Workshop on Visual Computing for Biology and Medicine 2020 (co-located with DAGM GCPR 2020 & VMV 2020) Given the current COVID-19 situation, we decided to turn to a virtual format. * Workshop Dates: September 28 - October 1, 2020 * Submission Deadline: July 17, 2020 **new** Aims and Scope EG VCBM (http://www.vcbm.org/), the Eurographics Workshop on Visual Computing for Biology and Medicine, is an annual event addressing the state of the art in visual computing research with a strong focus on applications in biology and medicine. It provides an interdisciplinary forum for experts (researchers and practitioners) from visualization, visual analytics, computer graphics, image processing, computer vision, human computer interfaces as well as experts from biology and medicine, jointly working on next generation visual computing solutions for medicine, healthcare and the biotechnology sector. This year��s workshop (already the 10th VCBM since its foundation in 2008) will be held from September 28 to October 1, 2020. EG VCBM 2020 will be held together with VMV (the International Symposium on Vision, Modeling, and Visualization), and DAGM GCPR (the German Conference on Pattern Recognition). EG VCBM solicits the submission of original, application-oriented research papers that advance the fusion of visual computing methods within medicine and biology. All papers (regular papers as well as short papers) should focus on a well-defined biological/medical problem, and demonstrate a significant innovation or improvement in visual computing. Suggested topics for full and short papers include, but are not limited to: �� Visual computing solutions for medical applications like radiology, surgery, pathology, cardiology, nephrology, neurology, etc., including medical education �� Visual computing solutions for applications that support biomedical research in systems biology, *omics research, molecular pathology, neuroanatomy, biomedical imaging, etc. �� Operation room of the future, including the uses of virtual reality and augmented reality in medical applications. �� Visualization approaches for data from new or challenging imaging modalities including real-time imaging (e.g., ultrasound) �� Visual computing solutions in the context of the virtual physiological human. Medical simulation and visual computing solutions that support new approaches in computational medicine. �� Visual analytics solutions for data coming from epidemiological studies, like population studies. In addition to that, we solicit: �� Survey papers on visual computing in biology and medicine Information for Authors In addition to full-length papers, there will be again a short papers track and a survey track, encouraging scientific contributions from an even more diverse group of researchers and practitioners. All VCBM 2020 papers (full, short and surveys) will be peer-reviewed and will appear in the Eurographics Digital Library. We encourage the use of digital videos to support all submissions, particularly if part of, or all of the work covers interactive techniques. Please use only the most common video codecs such as MP4 to maximize the chances that the reviewers can view it. * Full Papers: We do not impose strict maximum lengths for submitted papers to the full papers track. However, it is unusual for papers to exceed 10 pages (in CGF latex style including all images and references). Papers should only be as long as their content would justify. Reviewers might rate a submission lower if it is perceived as being unnecessarily long or might recommend it for a short paper, instead. Authors are encouraged to use supplementary material, such as videos or executable programs to provide extra content. * Short Papers: Short papers describe a more focused and concise research contribution and are likely to have a smaller - yet significant - scope of contribution. Potential examples include the presentation of initial results from novel ongoing research projects or the exploration of new application areas. Short papers draw from the same list of topics as full papers. Their length is limited to a total of 5 pages (including references). * Surveys: We do not impose strict maximum lengths for submitted papers to the surveys track. However, it is unusual for surveys to exceed 20 pages (in CGF latex style including all images and references). Authors are encouraged to use supplementary material, such as videos, to provide extra content. For information how to submit, please see https://workshop.cgv.tugraz.at/3dor2020/submission.php 3D Object Retrieval Workshop Series ----------------------------------- From the very beginning, the aim of the 3DOR Workshop series is to stimulate researchers to present state-of-the-art work, learn about or discuss topics in the field 3D object retrieval, search and exploration in a multi-disciplinary context of expertise such as Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Machine Learning, Cognitive Science and Human-Computer Interaction. 3DOR provides a cross-fertilization that will stimulate discussions on the next steps in this important research area. 3DOR 2020 will be the 13th workshop in this series. Search engines are now the default way in which most people engage with information, as the vast majority of information is born digital. 3D digital content is today pervasive: low-cost 3D scanners, 3D printers, and powerful modelling software have made 3D models appeal to an increasing audience. Repositories of 3D objects are rapidly growing in both number and size. Time-dependant acquisition, animation and simulation give rise to 3D objects as a function of time, yielding 4D objects. Yet, the task of exploring such large 3D/4D object repositories and retrieving the models of interest remains a challenging problem. It is crucial to develop algorithms for content-based searching of 3D object collections; creating compact and accurate descriptors for 3D objects; creating efficient storage structures for databases of 3D objects; investigating theoretical aspects of practical importance, such as the definition of the similarity concept; interfaces for content-based 3D object search; visualization techniques for 3D search results; real time aspects of techniques and algorithms; new challenges such as faceted 3D browsing, social search and navigation of hybrid datasets. The complex yet concrete problems above are drawing increasing attention from the research community, which is becoming more and more varied in terms of disciplines needed to solve various facets of the challenges. The 3DOR Workshop series has been characterized since the beginning by a specific attention to benchmarking with the organization of the session on the 3D Shape Retrieval Contest (SHREC). The general objective of the 3D Shape Retrieval Contest is to evaluate the effectiveness of 3D-shape retrieval methods and algorithms. SHREC 2020 is the 15th edition of the contest. As in previous years, it is organized in conjunction with the Eurographics Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval. We are pleased to announce 15 PhD research positions within the MSCA-ITN-ETN CLIPE (Creating Lively Interactive Populated Environments) CLIPE ( <http://clipe-itn.eu/> http://clipe-itn.eu/ ) is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network in the framework of Horizon 2020, starting on March 1st, 2020 with a four-year duration. The network consists of 9 universities/research centers and 5 industrial partners. The primary objective of CLIPE is to train a generation of innovators and researchers in the field of virtual characters simulation and animation. Advances in technology are pushing towards making VR/AR worlds a daily experience. Whilst virtual characters are an important component of these worlds, bringing them to life and giving them interaction and communication abilities requires highly specialized programming combined with artistic skills, and considerable investments: millions spent on countless coders and designers to develop video-games is a typical example. The research objective of CLIPE is to design the next-generation of VR-ready characters. CLIPE is addressing the most important current aspects of the problem, making the characters capable of: * behaving more naturally; * interacting with real users sharing a virtual experience with them; * being more intuitively and extensively controllable for virtual worlds designers. To meet our objectives, the CLIPE consortium gathers some of the main European actors in the field of VR/AR, computer graphics, computer animation, psychology and perception. CLIPE also extends its partnership to key industrial actors of populated virtual worlds, giving students the ability to explore new application fields and start collaborations beyond academia. Pacific Graphics 2020 Call for Papers

Pacific Graphics 2020 Call for Papers (IMPORTANT Updates considering COVID-19) The 28th Pacific Conference on Computer Graphics and Applications (Pacific Graphics 2020) was intended to be hosted in Wellington, New Zealand. Pacific Graphics is an annual flagship conference of the Asia Graphics Association. As a highly successful conference series, Pacific Graphics provides a premium forum for researchers, developers, practitioners in the Pacific Rim and around the world to present and discuss new problems, solutions, and technologies in computer graphics and related areas. Following the updates on the situation from the <https://www.who.int/> World Health Organization (WHO) and New Zealand government, we have decided to postpone the physical conference and combine it with Pacific Graphics 2021 at Wellington, because the health and safety of all the attendees is always our top priority. Full/Short Papers: We assure all submitters that all the accepted full/short papers will still be published in the Digital. The full/short papers will be archived in the EG digital libraries. The full papers will be published in a special issue of Computer Graphics Forum (CGF), the journal of the Eurographics Association, in print and online in 2020. A few submissions with strong potential but not accepted as full papers will be recommended for a second review cycle of CGF after major revisions. Selected and very promising short papers will be invited to submit an extended full-paper version to Computers & Graphics. Full and short papers containing high-quality original and unpublished results are solicited. The expected topics include (but are not limited to): modeling, rendering, animation, imaging, visualization, virtual reality/augmented reality, human-computer interaction, graphics systems, and related disciplines. Each paper should be 7-12 pages in length for the full papers or 4-6 pages for the short papers. Search engines are now the default way in which most people engage with information, as the vast majority of information is born digital. 3D digital content is today pervasive: low-cost 3D scanners, 3D printers, and powerful modelling software have made 3D models appeal to an increasing audience. Repositories of 3D objects are rapidly growing in both number and size. Time-dependant acquisition, animation and simulation give rise to 3D objects as a function of time, yielding 4D objects. Yet, the task of exploring such large 3D/4D object repositories and retrieving the models of interest remains a challenging problem. It is crucial to develop algorithms for content-based searching of 3D object collections; creating compact and accurate descriptors for 3D objects; creating efficient storage structures for databases of 3D objects; investigating theoretical aspects of practical importance, such as the definition of the similarity concept; interfaces for content-based 3D object search; visualization techniques for 3D search results; real time aspects of techniques and algorithms; new challenges such as faceted 3D browsing, social search and navigation of hybrid datasets. The complex yet concrete problems above are drawing increasing attention from the research community, which is becoming more and more varied in terms of disciplines needed to solve various facets of the challenges. The 3DOR Workshop series has been characterized since the beginning by a specific attention to benchmarking with the organization of the session on the 3D Shape Retrieval Contest (SHREC). The general objective of the 3D Shape Retrieval Contest is to evaluate the effectiveness of 3D-shape retrieval methods and algorithms. SHREC 2020 is the 15th edition of the contest. As in previous years, it is organized in conjunction with the Eurographics Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval. MAM 2020 MAM 2020, the 8th annual Workshop on Material Appearance Modeling, will be held virtually (i.e. via electronic platforms rather than physically) June 29, 2020 just prior to EGSR 2020 https://egsr2020.london/ . Position papers are due June 15, 2020. Types of position papers include (but are not restricted to, just write and ask if in doubt!): Submissions comparing methods for creating/editing bsdf/btf, measuring appearance or fitting data to appearance models Many systems have been proposed for creating/editing materials, measuring existing ones and fitting data to appearance models. Comparisons of existing editing systems, acquisition systems, or model fitting methods can be very useful for uncovering areas where additional research is needed. Submissions proposing/comparing nomenclature for appearance There are various aspects of the vocabulary we use to describe appearance. We can potentially develop a very precise vocabulary for describing code that is implemented for different scattering functions. Can we develop a vocabulary that is useful for material design? Submissions from industrial users or potential users of digital material models Suitable topics of this type include description of practical applications of digital models and problems that have been encountered. Are there some materials that aren't possible to model with current methods? Do some software systems fail to successfully predict appearance? Are there some desirable editing operations that aren't possible with current systems? Submissions from researchers on their view of the grand challenges in material appearance What are the big problems we still need to solve? Are there significant problems that require solution of wave equations that we still can't handle? Are there problems that require physical property data that we don't know how to get? Do we need better perceptual models? What are the material appearance modeling problems associated with 3D printing? Submissions from all groups describing acquisition systems and performance Technical papers typically describe the design of systems and initial results. Reports of practical experience with system are needed, including reports on what works well, and what works poorly. This type of “experience” report is needed to move the field forward but is not eligible for publication in traditional conferences and journals. Reflections and extensions If you recently had a journal paper (including Eurographics and SIGGRAPH papers) on material appearance modeling and have additional data, information or insights about the work beyond what was presented in the original paper, you are welcome to present these at the workshop. Submit an abstract summarizing what you will present that augments the original paper. Fabricating material appearance 3D printing systems are becoming available for reproducing color and gloss. Papers on fabrication issues are welcome. Submission All submissions should be four pages or less in length, using the Style Guide (see https://egsr2020.london/mam/). Position Description A core activity of RISE is to conduct high calibre, state of the art research (theoretical and applied). The Research Director will be responsible for overseeing the overall scientific progress of the Centre, guide and monitor research progress. Collaborations with industrial partners will be particularly encouraged and facilitated. Main Duties and Responsibilities The Research Director is expected to: * Lead the Centre’s research by coordinating the organization-wide strategy development, working towards mission achievement, promoting a healthy research environment, and fostering cross-Departmental collaboration. * Articulate the Centre’s research agenda in close collaboration with the Multidisciplinary Research Group leaders. * In consultation with the Pillar leaders and the Consortium Partners of the RISE project, formulate and regularly update the RISE Centre research strategy. * Drive effective strategies to improve RISE’s national and international competitive grants performance, as well as the government and industry-sponsored research funding performance. * Provides constant support to the researchers of RISE by allocating accordingly the resources of the Research Support Office. * Oversees the procedure for hiring and promotion of the scientific staff as well as the appointment of pillar experts. * Collaborate with the Executive Team and the Board of Directors to ensure appropriate alignment between research strategy, infrastructure strategy, and industry engagement and commercialization. * Oversees the planning and implements the design of the ICT and other research facilities appropriate to the Centre’s research. * Facilitates interdisciplinary research and fosters a common institutional culture by monitoring potential barriers and supporting the ongoing development of cross-disciplinary teams. * Supports researchers within RISE to align their research priorities, build research profiles nationally and internationally, and ensure that their strategies and plans align with RISE’s research strategy. * Ensure RISE’s integrity and compliance with the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity. * Engage with government and industry bodies to raise the profile of RISE as a research-intensive institution. * Ensure that the research related KPIs are delivered. For its seventh edition the conference will be held on November 12-13, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the conference will be held in a virtual forum using a video conferencing platform. It is our intention to retain as much of the conference programme as is practical, including all paper presentations and keynotes. The aim of STAG is the dissemination of research activities and novel ideas on both theoretical and application oriented aspects of Computer Graphics, bringing together researchers and practitioners from both national and international scientific communities to share their latest developments. Contributions on new ways to solve real problems, clever solutions to optimize or otherwise improve techniques and algorithms for real-world applications are encouraged. System, libraries, and workflow papers with impact on real-world applications are also welcome. We encourage submissions in all areas of Computer Graphics, Computer Vision, Visual Computing, and related disciplines. This year, we invite contributions in the form of full papers, and we will host, as usual, the EG-Italy thesis award ceremony. We encourage discussions of challenges or limitations in today's methods and areas of potential new topics of research. We are also interested in application discussions that focus on the physical, life or social sciences, engineering, or commerce, for example, or related to the process of visual computing in general. We encourage an emphasis on lessons learned from practical experience for application discussions, particularly where visual computing has been employed in a real, working environment. Viewpoint papers are submitted with author names and affiliations. Accepted viewpoint papers will be electronically archived, are fully citable publications and will be presented orally at the conference in (approximately) 12-15 minute presentations. Extended Abstracts / Posters - The purpose of this track is to present late-breaking results, work in progress, and follow-up extensions or evaluations of existing methods. In particular, it provides young researchers, especially postgraduate students, with valuable opportunities to receive feedback from other researchers, and engage in stimulating discussions. The poster track will be managed by the co-chair team and the International Program Committee (IPC). We solicit poster submissions in the form of an extended abstract of at most 2 pages (with an additional page allowed for references only). Posters will be peer-reviewed in a one-stage process. Accepted posters, size A1 recommended, will be presented at the poster viewing session of the conference. In addition to directly submitted posters, some submissions to the full, short and viewpoint paper tracks, that are not accepted for publication but are deemed suitable, will be offered an opportunity to be presented as posters. Such submissions will not require an additional review process. Traditionally, the materials in a poster/sketch can be reused later by the original authors for a more extensive publication (e.g., a full paper) with more detailed content and mature results. Eurographics & Eurovis 2020 (EGEV 2020)

Welcome to the joint virtual conferences, Eurographics & Eurovis 2020 (EGEV 2020) Norrköping, Sweden, May 25-29, 2020 Dear colleagues, co-workers, and friends, As you will all be aware, we are in the final steps towards the EuroGraphics and EuroVis conference 2020 (EGEV 2020), held in virtual Norrköping this year. Due to the current outbreak of Covid-19, we needed to switch the conference from a physical concept into a virtual conference instead. The organizing committee participated in other conferences that have “gone virtual” this season and we learned a lot from their experiences. The switch to a virtual conference means a number of changes for the presenters, chairs, and, the audience. One of the biggest changes is that contrary to previous years, the conference will be entirely free for attendees. All of the sessions of this event-packed week will be streamed on the EGEV2020 YouTube channel (http://youtube.egev2020.se) audience can follow along and ask questions to the presenters and interact with each other. Another common hub for creating the “conference feeling” will this year be Discord, for which you can sign up for free and join here (https://discord.gg/nTQwrp4). Discord is a widely used communications platform that supports multiple parallel discussion streams, both text and voice, and will allow the serendipitous “running into someone in the hallway” moments that add to every conference. For the Discord we recommend everyone to use their proper name however they see fit as a large portion of the interaction will be through this platform and seeing familiar names will make it easier to create these serendipitous encounters. When paired with emerging depth-sensing cameras and computer vision algorithms, intelligent cinematography algorithms increasingly find applications in real-world cinematography as well. In any of the scenarios, we will seek to publish the proceedings and make them available in the Eurographics Digital Library. ####################### The 18th EUROGRAPHICS Workshop on Graphics and Cultural Heritage (GCH 2020) aims to engage practitioners and researchers across the world working at the interface of novel 3D digital technologies and cultural heritage. This year, EG GCH will take place in the historical and UNESCO World Heritage city of Granada, whose university is almost 500 years old and, at the same time, has one of the leading Computer Sciences faculties in Europe. The event will explore the role of computer graphics and digital technologies in cultural heritage preservation and dissemination, linking its development with other economic and scientific areas, such as conservation and restoration, or with the role of technologies in sustainable tourism. GCH2020 welcomes presentations of projects and applications that demonstrate how computer graphics and other digital technologies could impact to cultural heritage. Specific sessions will be organized for active networking to seek new challenges and projects involving different stakeholders of the European Heritage ecosystem. Hence, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches are particularly welcome to the event. For the research community, GCH 2020 will provide, as always, an excellent scientific forum to exchange novel ideas and developments as well as to identify future research and application opportunities. For the practitioner community, GCH 2020 will provide a unique opportunity to feed into technical developments as well as to identify new techniques and ideas which can be transferred into practice. The event seeks different types of contributions including: 1. Research papers: original and innovative research (maximum 10 pages) 2. Short papers: update of ongoing research activities or projects (maximum 4 pages) 3. Posters: overview of activities (500 words abstract) 4. Tutorials of solutions available to the community. Text and class material prepared for 2h to 6h of teaching. It will be held on the pre-conference day. 5. Special sessions on topics of interest to the workshop 6. We encourage authors to submit work to VCBM even if they do not think they will be able or willing to attend in person due to the virus situation and/or potential travel restrictions. ]]] * Workshop Dates: September 28 - October 1, 2020 * Submission Deadline: July 10, 2020 --- Aims and Scope --- EG VCBM (http://www.vcbm.org/), the Eurographics Workshop on Visual Computing for Biology and Medicine, is an annual event addressing the state of the art in visual computing research with a strong focus on applications in biology and medicine. It provides an interdisciplinary forum for experts (researchers and practitioners) from visualization, visual analytics, computer graphics, image processing, computer vision, human computer interfaces as well as experts from biology and medicine, jointly working on next generation visual computing solutions for medicine, healthcare and the biotechnology sector. This year's workshop (already the 10th VCBM since its foundation in 2008) will be held from September 28 to October 1, 2020, in Tübingen, Germany. EG VCBM 2020 will be held together with VMV (the International Symposium on Vision, Modeling, and Visualization), and DAGM GCPR (the German Conference on Pattern Recognition). EG VCBM solicits the submission of original, application-oriented research papers that advance the fusion of visual computing methods within medicine and biology. All papers (regular papers as well as short papers) should focus on a well-defined biological/medical problem, and demonstrate a significant innovation or improvement in visual computing. Suggested topics for full and short papers include, but are not limited to: * Visual computing solutions for medical applications like radiology, surgery, pathology, cardiology, nephrology, neurology, etc., including medical education * Visual computing solutions for applications that support biomedical research in systems biology, *omics research, molecular pathology, neuroanatomy, biomedical imaging, etc. * Operation room of the future, including the uses of virtual reality and augmented reality in medical applications. * Visualization approaches for data from new or challenging imaging modalities including real-time imaging (e.g., ultrasound) * Visual computing solutions in the context of the virtual physiological human. Medical simulation and visual computing solutions that support new approaches in computational medicine. * Visual analytics solutions for data coming from epidemiological studies, like population studies. In addition to that, we solicit: * Survey papers on visual computing in biology and medicine --- Information for Authors --- In addition to full-length papers, there will be again a short papers track and a survey track, encouraging scientific contributions from an even more diverse group of researchers and practitioners. All VCBM 2020 papers (full, short and surveys) will be peer-reviewed and will appear in the Eurographics Digital Library. We encourage the use of digital videos to support all submissions, particularly if part of, or all of the work covers interactive techniques. Please use only the most common video codecs such as MP4 to maximize the chances that the reviewers can view it. * Full Papers: We do not impose strict maximum lengths for submitted papers to the full papers track. However, it is unusual for papers to exceed 10 pages (in CGF latex style including all images and references). Papers should only be as long as their content would justify. Reviewers might rate a submission lower if it is perceived as being unnecessarily long or might recommend it for a short paper, instead. Authors are encouraged to use supplementary material, such as videos or executable programs to provide extra content. * Short Papers: Short papers describe a more focused and concise research contribution and are likely to have a smaller - yet significant - scope of contribution. Potential examples include the presentation of initial results from novel ongoing research projects or the exploration of new application areas. Short papers draw from the same list of topics as full papers. Their length is limited to a total of 5 pages (including references). * Surveys: We do not impose strict maximum lengths for submitted papers to the surveys track. However, it is unusual for surveys to exceed 20 pages (in CGF latex style including all images and references).
