COMPUTER GRAPHICS & VISUAL COMPUTING 2019 (CGVC2019)
The 37th Annual Conference organised by the UK chapter of the Eurographics Association,
12-13 September 2019, Bangor University, UK
http://www.eguk.org.uk/CGVC2019/
======================================================
The annual EGUK conference is a meeting place for all those in the UK working in computer graphics and visual computing (including, Computer Graphics and Vision, Information and Scientific Visualization, and Visual Analytics). It attracts researchers from across the country and from further afield.
The 2019 conference Computer Graphics & Visual Computing will be an overnight meeting (lunchtime to lunchtime). The conference wants to focus on increasing the dialogue between academic research groups, researchers in academic and in industrial developments. In order to facilitate such dialogue, we are seeking contributions in the form of full papers, short papers, viewpoint papers and extended abstracts (posters). Optional single-blind or double-blind - reviewers’ identities are not revealed. Authors may choose whether to anonymize their submission or not.
• Full papers - a paper of 4 to 8 pages describing completed research, plus an additional page of references. Papers are refereed by members of an international program committee (IPC). Authors of accepted papers are expected to give a 15-20 minute presentation at the conference. Accepted papers will appear in the Eurographics digital library and will serve as full paper publications.
• Short papers - The purpose of short papers is to present late-breaking results, work-in-progress, and follow-up extensions or evaluations of existing methods. Short papers will be peer-reviewed in a one-stage process by an international program committee (IPC). They will be electronically archived and are fully citable publications. Submissions for the short paper track should be at most 4 pages, with an additional page allowed for references. Accepted short papers will be presented orally at the conference in (approximately) 12-15 minute presentations.
• Viewpoint Papers (aka. Position paper) - Viewpoint paper track enables researchers a new possibility to publish their ideas. Viewpoints articles offer detailed technical opinions on trends in visual computing or reports on how visual computing has contributed to the comprehension of data or phenomena, without the need to present completed research work and/or validated results. We encourage discussions of challenges or limitations in today's methods and areas of potential new topics of research. We are also interested in application discussions that focus on, for example, the areas of physical, life or social sciences, engineering, or commerce, or areas related to the process of visual computing in general. We encourage an emphasis on lessons learned from practical experience for application discussions, particularly where visual computing has been employed in a real, working environment. Viewpoint papers are submitted with author names and affiliations (at most 4-pages). Accepted viewpoint papers will be electronically archived, are fully citable publications and will be presented orally at the conference in (approximately) 12-15 minute presentations.
• Extended Abstracts (Poster Papers) - The purpose of this track is to present late-breaking results, work in progress, and follow-up extensions or evaluations of existing methods. In particular, it provides young researchers, especially postgraduate students, with valuable opportunities to receive feedback from other researchers, and engage in stimulating discussions. The poster track will be managed by the co-chair team and the International Program Committee (IPC). We solicit poster submissions in the form of an extended abstract of at most 2 pages (with an additional page allowed for references only).
Posters will be peer-reviewed in a one-stage process. Accepted posters, size A1 recommended, will be presented at the poster viewing session of the conference.
In addition to directly submitted posters, some submissions to the full, short and viewpoint paper tracks, that are not accepted for publication but are deemed suitable, will be offered an opportunity to be presented as posters. Such submissions will not require an additional review process.
Accepted abstracts (poster papers) do not appear in the Eurographics digital library, and will not be considered as a paper publication, instead being similar to a SIGGRAPH one-page sketch or to a conference poster without an associated full paper. As such, presenting an extended abstract or a poster at the conference has no effect on your ability to publish a fuller version of the same work in another venue.
Topics include, but are not limited to:

3D Shape Retrieval Contest, SHREC 2019, http://www.shrec.net/
Call for Track Proposals
*Introduction*
The general objective of the 3D Shape Retrieval Contest is to evaluate the
effectiveness of 3D-shape retrieval algorithms. SHREC'19 is the thirteens
edition of the contest. Like previous years, it is organized in conjunction
with the Eurographics Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval, where the results
will be reviewed and included in the workshop proceedings.
Thanks to the efforts of previous track organizers, SHREC already provides
many resources to compare and evaluate 3D retrieval methods. For this year's
contest, we aim to explore new and updated tracks. Therefore, the
participants are invited to have an active role in the organization of the
event. This includes proposing track themes, building or acquiring a test
collection, and deciding upon the queries, relevance assessment, and
performance measures.
The participants of each track will collectively write a paper, which will
be published in the proceedings of the Eurographics Workshop 3D Object
Retrieval 2019, http://3dor2019.ge.imati.cnr.it/. At least one author per
track must register for the workshop, and present the results. We also
cordially invite all participants of a track to register and attend the
workshop.
*Tracks*
The tracks organized in the past years have covered different aspects and
tasks of 3D shape retrieval, for example: rigid or non-rigid models; partial
(e.g. range scan) or complete models; sketch-based 3D retrieval; generic or
domain specific models (e.g. CAD, biometrics, architectural and protein),
and various aspects such as metric learning, outlier detection,
correspondence, robustness, stability, registration, classification,
recognition, pose estimation, and machine learning.
Now we solicit again proposals for tracks. You may opt for one of the above
themes, or propose new ones. Track organizers are responsible for all
aspects of organizing the track, such as: the task, the data collection
(copyright issues, etc.), the queries, the ground truth, the experimental
design, the evaluation method, and the procedural aspects, writing the final
paper in collaboration with the contestants, and submitting it. See the
SHREC home page http://www.shrec.net/ for examples of organizational aspects
of previous tracks.
*Procedure*
The following list is a step-by-step description of the activities:
. Potential track organizers send their proposal to shrec(a)cs.uu.nl,
describing the envisioned task, collection, queries, ground truth,
evaluation method, and expected number of participants.
. Promising tracks and their organizers will be listed at the SHREC web
page, the track organizers start working out the details.
. Participants register for the tracks they want to participate in.
. Each track is performed according to its own schedule.
. The track organizers collect the results.
. The track results are combined into a joint paper, to be included in the
proceedings of the Eurographics Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval(included in
the digital library of Eurographics).
. The description of the tracks and their results are presented at the
Eurographics Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval (5-6 May, 2019, Genova, Italy).

3D Object Retrieval Workshop Series
Search engines are now the default way in which most people engage with
information, as the vast majority of information is born digital. Also, a
new wave of information is underway: low-cost 3D scanners, 3D printers, and
powerful modelling software have made 3D models appeal to an increasing
audience. Repositories of 3D objects are rapidly growing in both number and
size. Yet, the task of exploring such large 3D repositories and retrieving
the models of interest remains a challenging problem. It is crucial to
develop algorithms for content-based searching of 3D object collections;
creating compact and accurate descriptors for 3D objects; creating efficient
storage structures for databases of 3D objects; investigating theoretical
aspects of practical importance, such as the definition of the similarity
concept; interfaces for content-based 3D object search; visualization
techniques for 3D search results; real time aspects of techniques and
algorithms; new challenges such as faceted 3D browsing, social search, and
navigation of hybrid datasets. The complex yet concrete problems above are
drawing increasing attention from the research community.
The aim of the 3DOR Workshop series is to stimulate researchers from
different fields such as Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Machine
Learning, Cognitive Science and Human-Computer Interaction who work on or
are interested in 3D object retrieval search and exploration, to present
state-of-the-art work in the field or learn about it and participate in
discussions. This will provide a cross-fertilization that will stimulate
discussions on the next steps in this important research area. 3DOR 2019
will be the 12th workshop in this series.
***********************************************************
Call for Papers
Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished research and
application papers addressing all areas of 3D Object Retrieval. Submissions
are invited in the form of full papers (up to 8 pages) and short papers
presented in a poster session (up to 4 pages). State of the arts papers on
specific topics of interest in the workshop are also welcome and may exceed
the 8 pages limit.
All accepted papers will be published in the EG Digital Library.
Extended and revised versions of selected full papers will be considered for
publication in a special section of the Computers and Graphics Journal
(Elsevier), based on the reviewers' comments and on the feedback from the
3DOR workshop. The deadline for this special issue will be 6 weeks after the
workshop (end of June 2019) and reviewer continuity will be aimed for.
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
3D shape analysis
3D shape similarity and matching
3D mesh sequence retrieval
3D mobile media retrieval
3D search in large scale data
3D object classification, indexing, and mining
Similarity of non-rigid shapes
Shape correspondence
3D shape decomposition, and segmentation
Partial, part-in-whole, and many-to-many matching
Matching under uncertainty and noise
Semantics-driven 3D object retrieval and classification
Sketch-based retrieval
Query interfaces and search modalities
Benchmarking issues
Deep learning for 3D shape retrieval
Generative/discriminative approaches in 3D object categorization
Visual Analytics for 3D similarity assessment
Applications in multimedia, CAD, architecture, games, biometrics, e-science,
e-learning, medicine, biology, and cultural heritage.
Also this year, the workshop will feature the 14th Shape Retrieval
Evaluation Contest (SHREC 2019). A separate call for participation will be
issued shortly.
***********************************************************
