industry and academia.
Computer Graphics has emerged as a key field supporting both performance
assessment and training of AI drivers. Latest advances in CG suggest that it
is feasible to design the corner cases both for training and testing.
Simulation allows us to drive millions of miles to assess the performance of
AI drivers, as well as generate millions of episodes for training the models
behind AI drivers. This simulation-based approach requires advances in
procedural generation of realistic traffic infrastructure, realistic
behavior of traffic participants (human drivers, cyclists, pedestrians),
augmented and mixed reality for on-board videos, simulation of sensors
(cameras, LIDAR, RADAR, etc.) and multi-sensor suites, automatic generation
of accurate and diverse ground truth, and beyond real-time simulations on
multi-AI agents.
The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners
of both autonomous driving and computer graphics fields to discuss the open
challenges that must be addressed in order to accelerate the deployment of
safe and reliable autonomous vehicles. Speakers with experience on the use
of simulation and computer graphics for autonomous driving will be invited
to share their work and insights regarding upcoming research challenges.
Applications will be accepted on first come/first served basis until July
27th. Otherwise, registrations should be available until achieving the
maximum capacity of the conference room.
This event is organized in collaboration with ACM SIGGRAPH.
Please, let us know about your interest or if you have any difficulties
through the registration process.

Postdoc and Ph.D. Openings available at the University of Bonn (Germany)
The Digital Material Appearance / Computational Light Transport research
group at the University of Bonn (Germany) is pleased to announce the
availability of PhD and postdoc positions. We do research at the interface
between physics, computer graphics, computer vision and imaging [1].
Within the recently awarded ERC Starting Grant "ECHO", starting this winter,
we will be working on novel ways of using computer graphics as a set of
tools for learning more about the world around us. Among other things, we
will build new computational cameras that can be programmed to be sensitive
only to very specific real-world features; we will estimate materials from
single-pixel measurements, and we will use echoes of light in order to look
around corners.
To meet these goals, we seek excellent candidates to join our group on the
postdoc or PhD level. Successful applicants will have plenty of opportunity
to interact with the other local groups (computer graphics, robotics,
computer vision) and members of our international network of collaborators
in academia and industry.
REQUIREMENTS
We expect candidates for postdoc positions to have completed a PhD in
computer graphics or computer vision with an excellent publication record.
PhD Candidates are expected to have completed a research-centric master's
degree, which has ideally led to one or two first publications.
You need solid programming skills (C++, OpenGL with shaders, CUDA, ...), a
robust mathematical background, and fluency in spoken and written English.
We explicitly invite candidates with machine learning expertise (especially
in a computer graphics context) to apply!
APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Starting Researcher, Postdoc, Ph.D. and Engineer Openings at
Inria/GRAPHDECO, (Sophia-Antipolis, France)
FUNGRAPH is an ERC Advanced Grant in the GRAPHDECO research group (
<http://team.inria.fr/graphdeco> http://team.inria.fr/graphdeco)
at Inria Sophia-Antipolis (South of France), starting fall 2018.
The high level goal of the project is to build new foundations for rendering
in
Computer Graphics, by taking into account uncertainty in rendering
algorithms and
in the data (geometry, materials, lights) we use to render Computer
Graphics.
A high-level description of the FUNGRAPH projet can be found here:
<http://fungraph.inria.fr> http://fungraph.inria.fr
and a description of possible research topics can be found here:
<http://fungraph.inria.fr/fungraph-jobs.html>
http://fungraph.inria.fr/fungraph-jobs.html
These topics should be considered as the "perimeter" of the research, and
will be adapted to the candidate's interests and qualifications. We are
looking to hire 1-2 Starting Researchers, 2-3 postdoctoral fellows,
1-2 PhD students (but probably a little later) and 1-2 engineers.
It is possible that a Ph.D. student works on one of the topics listed as
"PostDoc" below, and vice versa. Starting Researchers and -- depending on
their experience -- postdoctoral fellows are expected to define their own
research agenda within this "perimeter" (to be interpreted very widely).
This list of topics will evolve constantly throughout the project, so please
visit the topics page regularly.
Context
Several of these topics will involve work with our network of regular
collaborators: at
institutions such as MIT, Berkeley and UCL, and can include visits to the
respective laboratories.
We plan to expand this set of collaborators during FUNGRAPH.
Successful candidates will be members of a dynamic and highly motivated
group of excellent young researchers, the GRAPHDECO Inria group (
<https://team.inria.fr/graphdeco/team-members/>
https://team.inria.fr/graphdeco/team-members/), and will have the
opportunity to collaborate and interact with my colleague Adrien Bousseau
(who has a Starting ERC Grant called D^3) and
the other Ph.D. students, postdocs and engineers of the group.
Required Qualifications
For Starting Researcher and Postdoctoral positions, candidates are expected
to have a Ph.D. in Computer Graphics or in Computer Vision with an emphasis
on Graphics applications, and an excellent publication record. Ph.D.
candidates are expected to have a Masters in Computer Graphics, with a solid
mathematical and programming (C++/OpenGL/GLSL/Vulkan) background and have
completed a thesis with a research component (ideally submitted or
published). Fluency in spoken and written English is a requirement.
How to apply
If you are interested in any of these positions/topics, please email
directly (George dot Drettakis at inria.fr) with your CV and short
motivation, and the email addresses of 2-3 references. If you are applying
for a Ph.D. please also attach your academic transcript for the last 3 years
(an unofficial list of courses and grades is sufficient).
G. Drettakis will be at SIGGRAPH in Vancouver, and will be interviewing
candidates there.
