EuroVis 2018 is the 20th annual scientific gathering on visualization
jointly organized by the Eurographics Working Group on Data Visualization
and the IEEE Visualization and Graphics Technical Committee. EuroVis
2018 will be held in Brno, Czech Republic, from 4-8 June 2018.
Like last year, all accepted EuroVis 2018 STAR reports will be published
in Computer Graphics Forum. State-of-the-Art Reports (STARs) are intended
to provide up-to-date and comprehensive surveys on topics of interest to
the visualization research community. We encourage the submission of
STARs on topics that have not yet been covered in any recent previous
STAR or other survey. We welcome submissions that introduce emerging
technologies, as well as proposals on more traditional visualization
topics. We also welcome contributions from related disciplines and
application areas demonstrating contributions to, or benefits from,
the area of visualization including, but not limited to, visual computing,
computer graphics, human-computer interaction, virtual reality,
image processing, computer vision, psychology, geography, chemistry,
computational fluid dynamics, data analysis, computational sciences,
medicine, biology, economy, politology, etc.
As part of the acceptance process into Computer Graphics Forum, STARs
will undergo a multi-stage process. First, authors are asked to submit
an initial sketch by 13 October 2017. A STAR sketch briefly describes the
planned STAR by outlining the topic, discussing its relevance to the
visualization community, providing the planned structure and outline of
the STAR together with all key references, and short biographies of the
authors. The length of a STAR sketch main text is limited to two pages.
References and short biographies are considered supplementary pages and
are not counted within the two page limit. Bibliographies are be limited
to 200 words per author. The format of the sketch can be found at
http://www.eurovis2018.org/
STAR sketches will be reviewed by the STAR IPC and comments on suitability
and relevance will be provided by 3 Nov 2016. Authors will then be required
to submit a full STAR. Full STAR submissions will then undergo a single
blind, double cycle review, similar to the one for regular papers submitted
to Computer Graphics Forum, where three external experts on the respective
topic will evaluate the STAR. Full submissions are 25 pages maximum. To
demonstrate the relevant expertise needed to produce the proposed STAR,
authors are required to submit the brief biographies of all authors as
supplementary materials.
Electronic submission of the STAR sketch and full proposal is mandatory and
will be conducted using https://precisionconference.com/~vgtc/ according to
the guidelines defined at:

We plan to schedule each STAR as an approximately 45 minute presentation
(subject to the schedule management of the EuroVis 2018 program). In any
circumstance, a STAR presentation will be given a longer time slot than
that for a full paper.

The Department of Intelligent Systems at Delft University of Technology is
looking for an Assistant/Associate Professor in the field of visual
computing, which can include the areas of computer graphics, computer
vision, image processing, display technology, virtual and augmented reality,
high-performance computing, fabrication, data-driven solutions, and
perceptual methods.
The Assistant/Associate Professor will supervise PhD students, interns, and
Bachelor's and Master's students, and will teach at the BSc and MSc levels.
In particular, the candidate is expected to have expertise in and
participate in the teaching of 3D Computer Graphics. The appointee will also
be responsible for management tasks, acquisition of research projects, and
valorisation.

Requirements
The candidate we seek is a motivated and dedicated researcher. The candidate
holds a PhD degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. computer science,
mathematics, physics, electrical engineering). Additionally, the candidate

. be a team player. Experience in initiating and participating in
(international) research programmes and in collaborative projects with
scientific/industrial partners is an advantage.
. be an enthusiastic teacher with the motivation to engage in the
educational environment and an openness towards modern teaching
methodologies.
. preferably, have experience with different application domains and a keen
eye for technical and scientific solutions.
. have proficiency in English of at least level C1-II (a certificate is not
needed).
Conditions of employment
A tenure-track position is offered for six years. Based on performance
indicators agreed upon at the start of the appointment, a decision will be
made by the fifth year whether to offer you a permanent faculty position.

Eurographics 2018: Second Call for State of the Art Reports
Accepted STARs will be published in Computer Graphics Forum
State-of-the-Art Reports (STARs) provide an up-to-date and comprehensive
overview of a special topic of current interest related to Computer
Graphics. We welcome submissions on all topics relevant to EUROGRAPHICS, and
particularly encourage STARs on topics that have not been covered in any
recent previous STAR. STAR reports on cross-sectional, multi-disciplinary
areas are also highly welcomed. A STAR can also address the use of Computer
Graphics techniques in a different scientific discipline or in industrial
practice. For examples of suitable STAR topics, please refer to the
EUROGRAPHICS digital library.
Accepted STARs will be published in a special issue of Computer Graphics
Forum, which appears right before the EUROGRAPHICS conference. The journal
status of the proceedings requires a two-stage review process with
conditional acceptance after the first round and final acceptance based on
the revised submissions. Submissions needing a major revision will be
transferred to the standard submission track of Computer Graphics Forum.
At EUROGRAPHICS 2018, the authors of a STAR will be given 90 minutes to
present the report at a level that allows non-experts in the particular
domain to follow the presentation.

Submission details
Electronic submissions of STARs is mandatory and will be conducted using the
Submission and Review Management System
(https://srmv2.eg.org/COMFy/Conference/EG_2018STARs). Papers must be written
in English and prepared according to this year's template, which can be
found at: https://srmv2.eg.org/.
The deadline for the submission of STARs is 23:59 UTC/GMT, October 1 2017,
with notification of conditional acceptance on December 8, 2017. The revised
version of conditionally accepted STARs will have to be submitted at a later
date for a second review, and the camera ready version will be due about 6
weeks before the start of the conference.
The STARs undergo a single-blind review process. To demonstrate the relevant
expertise needed to produce the proposed STAR, authors are required to
submit the brief biographies of all authors as a piece of supplementary
materials.
We do not impose strict maximum lengths for these submissions. However, it
is recommended that papers be up to 20 pages excluding references and the
authors' short bios, to conform to the general recommendation for CGF survey
papers.

English, must be anonymized, should not exceed 10 pages in length, and must
be formatted according to the Eurographics Computer Graphics Forum
publication guidelines. This event uses a double-blind reviewing approach,
so please remove all personal data (like such as authors, affiliations,
etc.) from your submission. Reviewers are asked to keep confidential all

Open Position with the Computer Graphics and Virtual Reality Group Bremen
PhD research position
with the Computer Graphics and Virtual Reality Group at the University of
Bremen, Germany, to be filled as soon as possible

Job Description:
The work in this position will be carried out within the SFB "EASE -
Everyday Activity Science and Engineering" (funded by the DFG), which is to
perform fundamental research to enable robots to do human everyday
activities, such as setting a table or loading a dish washer.
One strand of research of the CGVR lab in this endeavor is to develop
algorithms such that robots can "envision" the outcomes of their tentative
plans by simulating the real world around them before they actually follow
through with their plan. This requires novel methods for
faster-than-realtime physically-based simulation and the development of
predicates in order to evaluate the outcomes.
In another strand, we will deal specifically with the challenge of grasping.
Here, the task is to develop novel methods such that a human user can grasp
virtual objects using a virtual hand with high simulation fidelity and high
dexterity. The goal is to allow humans to interact with virtual objects just
like in real live, and to study their grasping behaviors under a large
variety of scenarios and parameters.
The tasks will also comprise a small amount of help with teaching in the
computer science program (e.g., as teaching assistant).
About us:
The position offers great opportunities for collaboration with other members
of both the computer graphics group and other groups. This job provides a
vibrant research environment where a broad range of activities related to 3D
graphics algorithms and virtual reality are being pursued (see
cgvr.cs.uni-bremen.de). The successful candidate will be working with a
dynamic, friendly, and helpful team of computer graphics researchers. Our
research group is part of the school of computer science at University of
Bremen. Our university is a mid-sized university with about 20,000 students,

Qualifications:
Candidates should have an excellent Master's degree in computer science, or
a related discipline such as mathematics, physics, etc. You should be
passionate about your work and highly self-motivated. Required skills are
solid experience in C++ software development, and a good command of English
(reading/writing/speaking). Ideally, you have specialized in real-time
computer graphics or physically-based simulation, you are capable of
effectively applying mathematical methods, and you have knowledge in GPGPU
programming. In addition, the successful candidate will be highly
self-motivated, passionate about their work, and have good ability to work
both independently as well as in a team in a multidisciplinary environment.
Speaking German is a plus, but not required.

Eurographics 2018 Call for State of the Art Reports
Accepted STARs will be published in Computer Graphics Forum
State-of-the-Art Reports (STARs) provide an up-to-date and comprehensive
overview of a special topic of current interest related to Computer
Graphics. We welcome submissions on all topics relevant to EUROGRAPHICS, and
particularly encourage STARs on topics that have not been covered in any
recent previous STAR. STAR reports on cross-sectional, multi-disciplinary
areas are also highly welcomed. A STAR can also address the use of Computer
Graphics techniques in a different scientific discipline or in industrial
practice. For examples of suitable STAR topics, please refer to the
EUROGRAPHICS digital library.
Accepted STARs will be published in a special issue of Computer Graphics
Forum, which appears right before the EUROGRAPHICS conference. The journal
status of the proceedings requires a two-stage review process with
conditional acceptance after the first round and final acceptance based on
the revised submissions. Submissions needing a major revision will be
transferred to the standard submission track of Computer Graphics Forum.
At EUROGRAPHICS 2018, the authors of a STAR will be given 90 minutes to
present the report at a level that allows non-experts in the particular
domain to follow the presentation.

Submission details
Electronic submissions of STARs is mandatory and will be conducted using the
Submission and Review Management System
(https://srmv2.eg.org/COMFy/Conference/EG_2018STARs). Papers must be written
in English and prepared according to this year's template, which can be
found at: https://srmv2.eg.org/.
The deadline for the submission of STARs is 23:59 UTC/GMT, October 1 2017,
with notification of conditional acceptance on December 8, 2017. The revised
version of conditionally accepted STARs will have to be submitted at a later
date for a second review, and the camera ready version will be due about 6
weeks before the start of the conference.
The STARs undergo a single-blind review process. To demonstrate the relevant
expertise needed to produce the proposed STAR, authors are required to
submit the brief biographies of all authors as a piece of supplementary
materials.
We do not impose strict maximum lengths for these submissions. However, it
is recommended that papers be up to 20 pages excluding references and the
authors' short bios, to conform to the general recommendation for CGF survey
papers.

The UDMV workshop is a place to discuss the modelling and visualisation of
the city at various spatial and temporal scales, and aims at sharing
associated techniques, methods, uses and points of view. Managing and
understanding urban data are major issues as they are represented by several
kind of different data sets at various scales. Urban data not only embed the
geometry of the city model, but also data related to human activities (e.g.
social data, transportation, mobility, history), to physical phenomena (e.g.
light, wind, heat), and to environment (e.g. geography, climate). Thus, the
processing of urban data is a huge challenge for current GIS and computing
capabilities, especially considering all the sustainable development
parameters related to architectural design, urban planning and urban climate
studies; but also considering the specific needs of entertainment, cultural
heritage or any domains using urban data. The workshop aims to gather in a
same place GIS, BIM and computer graphics communities.

Following the success of the 4th workshop on Urban Data Modelling and
Visualisation in Liège, Belgium, the smart living lab and the University of
Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland in Fribourg propose the 5th edition
of the workshop. Under the auspice of the Eurographics organization, the
workshop will held on November 24 in Fribourg, Switzerland.

The fifth UDMV workshop focuses on users experiences and gives a special
emphasis on urban comfort. The user experience relates to urban density,
ambiances, vegetation, pollution, networks, and transports. Therefore, all
papers dealing with the data modelling and visualisation of the user
experience will be greatly appreciated. Other topics are also welcome:
Modelling the static and dynamic features of the city (spatio-temporal data)
* Multi-scale geometric data (from building scale to urban scale)
* Multi-scale temporal data (from real time to history time)
* Visualisation of several urban data layers (aggregated indicators)
* Visual analytics using urban data (decision making processes and
CAD)
* Modelling of thematic information relying on multi-dimensional city
models (3D thematic information)
Publications

Expected contributions are research papers, 8 pages in Eurographics (EG)
publication format, presenting unpublished methods, algorithms and
techniques with established results. All accepted papers will be presented
orally at the conference by one of the authors, and will be published in the
EG Digital Library.

The 10th ACM International Conference on Motion in Games will take place in
Barcelona, Spain from November 8-10, 2017 and will be hosted by UPC
(Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya). MIG is sponsored by ACM and held in
cooperation with Eurographics.
Motion plays a crucial role in interactive applications, such as VR, AR, and
video games. Characters move around, objects are manipulated or move due to
physical constraints, entities are animated, and the camera moves through
the scene. Even the motion of the player nowadays is used as input to such
interactive systems.
Motion is currently studied in many different areas of research, including
graphics and animation, game technology, robotics, simulation, computer
vision, and also physics, psychology, and urban studies. Cross-fertilization
between these communities can considerably advance the state-of-the-art in
the area.
The goal of the Motion in Games conference is to bring together researchers
from this variety of fields to present their most recent results, to
initiate collaborations, and to contribute to the establishment of the
research area. The conference will consist of regular paper sessions, poster
presentations, and as well as presentations by a selection of
internationally renowned speakers in all areas related to interactive
systems and simulation. The conference includes entertaining cultural and
social events that foster casual and friendly interactions among the
participants.

archived in the EG and ACM digital libraries. All submissions will be
considered for Best Paper Awards. Best Paper, Best Student Paper, and Best
Presentation awards will be conferred during the conference.
The top 10% papers will be selected for a special issue in the

Posters

Two types of work can be submitted directly for poster presentation: (1)
Work that has been published elsewhere but is of particular relevance to the
MIG community can be submitted as a poster. This work and the venue in
which it was published should be identified in the abstract. (2) Work that
is of interest to the MIG community but is not yet mature enough to appear
as a long paper.
Posters will not appear in the official MIG proceedings but will appear in
an online database for distribution at author's discretion.
Accepted papers will be presented at the conference during oral sessions, or
as posters during a poster session. Best Paper and Best Student Paper awards

The new professor is expected to cover the field of Augmented Reality (AR)
and Virtual Reality (VR) and its applications to interactive visualization
in research and teaching. The position will be established as part of the
Visualization Research Center of the University of Stuttgart (VISUS), a

Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Information

We are looking for a person with excellent international reputation willing
to advance research in AR/VR in the interdisciplinary interplay with natural
sciences, engineering, and humanities. Expertise in several of the following
areas, each with direct relationship to AR/VR, is expected:

* Real-time rendering for high-resolution and large displays

The Junior-Professorship is supported by the Carl Zeiss Foundation and

quality assurance act for tenure track professorships, the W1 position will
be converted to a permanent W3 professorship after successful evaluation.

The 15th EUROGRAPHICS Workshop on Graphics and Cultural Heritage (GCH
2017) aims to foster an international dialogue between ICT experts and CH
scientists to advance the understanding of critical requirements for
processing, managing, and delivering cultural heritage information to a
broad audience. The objective of the workshop is to introduce and showcase
new techniques and applications for supporting Cultural Heritage information
ranging from data acquisition, analysis and synthesis, 3D documentation, and
data management, to new forms of interactive presentation and 3D printing
solutions. Interdisciplinary approaches for analysis, classification and
interpretation of cultural artefacts are particularly relevant to the event.
GCH 2017 provides a scientific forum to exchange novel ideas and techniques
in research, education and dissemination of Cultural Heritage information,
to transfer them into practice, and identify future research and application
opportunities. To advance the dialogue between ICT and CH experts, GCH 2017
will be held in close cooperation with the Museumsakademie of the
Universalmuseum Joanneum in Graz, providing opportunity for exchange between
the domains.
Within this workshop, there is a specific short paper track, that encourages
researchers to present their most recent work in a condensed way. Short
paper submissions must describe original and unpublished work. While a short
paper is not a shortened long paper, the characteristics of short papers
include: late-breaking results; a small, focused contribution; work in
progress; a negative result; follow-up extensions; evaluations of existing
methods; an interesting application nugget. Each short paper submission
consists of up to four (4) pages of content, plus unlimited pages for
references; reviewers' comments must be taken into account in the final
version. Each short paper submission will be reviewed by program committee
members. A submission can be accompanied by electronic supplementary
material (e.g. images, video, demo). Topics lie in the area of visual
computing applied to digital cultural heritage, challenging the state of the
art solutions and leveraging new ideas for future developments. Equally,
original contributions in the cultural heritage field of relevance to visual

The annual EGUK conference is a meeting place for all those in the UK
working in computer graphics and visual computing. It attracts researchers
from across the country and from further afield.
The 2017 conference Computer Graphics & Visual Computing will be an
overnight meeting (lunchtime to lunchtime). The conference wants to focus on
increasing the dialogue between academic research groups, researchers in
academic and in industrial developments. In order to facilitate such
dialogue, we are seeking contributions mainly in the form of extended
abstract and industrial demonstrations. However, we also welcome submissions
of full papers.
Full papers - a paper of 4 to 8 pages describing completed research. Papers
will be refereed by members of the EGUK programme committee. Authors of
accepted papers will be expected to give a 20 minute presentation at the
conference. Accepted papers will appear in the Eurographics digital library
and will count as full paper publications.
Extended abstract - an abstract of up to 1000 words, plus figures and
references. An extended abstract can describe work in progress, interim
results, industrial work, or research presented more fully elsewhere.
Extended abstracts will also be refereed by a panel drawn from the EGUK

medicine, jointly working on next generation visual computing solutions for

EG VCBM solicits the submission of original, application-oriented research
papers that advance the
fusion of visual computing methods within medicine and biology. All papers

as short papers) should focus on a well-defined biological/medical problem,
and demonstrate a
significant innovation or improvement in visual computing.

The annual EGUK conference is a meeting place for all those in the UK
working in computer graphics and visual computing. It attracts researchers
from across the country and from further afield.
The 2017 conference Computer Graphics & Visual Computing will be an
overnight meeting (lunchtime to lunchtime). The conference wants to focus on
increasing the dialogue between academic research groups, researchers in
academic and in industrial developments. In order to facilitate such
dialogue, we are seeking contributions mainly in the form of extended
abstract and industrial demonstrations. However, we also welcome submissions
of full papers.
Full papers - a paper of 4 to 8 pages describing completed research. Papers
will be refereed by members of the EGUK programme committee. Authors of
accepted papers will be expected to give a 20 minute presentation at the
conference. Accepted papers will appear in the Eurographics digital library
and will count as full paper publications.
Extended abstract - an abstract of up to 1000 words, plus figures and
references. An extended abstract can describe work in progress, interim
results, industrial work, or research presented more fully elsewhere.
Extended abstracts will also be refereed by a panel drawn from the EGUK
programme committee. All accepted extended abstracts will be presented as
posters in a poster session and authors of selected submissions will also be
expected to give a 15 minute presentation at the conference.
Industrial project abstracts - a technical abstract of 1 to 4 pages,
demonstrating implementations and/or product development. Technical
abstracts will be presented at the conference site as large format posters
during a poster session.
Accepted abstracts will appear in the Eurographics digital library. An
extended abstract and industrial project abstract will not be considered as
a full paper publication, instead being similar to a SIGGRAPH one‐page
sketch or to a conference poster without an associated paper. As such,
presenting an extended abstract at this conference has no effect on your
ability to publish a fuller version of the same work in another venue. See

Senior researcher in motion capture and 3D character animation
Job Description
Artanim is looking for a senior researcher in offline and real time 3D
character animation from optical motion capture data with possible knowledge
or experience in inverse kinematics solutions and VR/AR.
Working Environment
The position is available within the Artanim Foundation, Geneva,
Switzerland. The applicant will join a modern R&D lab equipped with
cutting-edge motion capture technologies. The foundation has many years of
experience in R&D related to VR/AR, real time motion interaction and
animation, and motion capture applications from different technologies.
Artanim was founded in 2011 and is a non-profit research institution
dedicated to the promotion and development of motion capture technologies in
the medical and virtual reality fields. The offices are located in Geneva,
an international city which provides an outstanding quality of life and
opportunities all around the year.
Profile of the candidate
The candidate has a proven industrial or academic track record of optical
motion capture and 3D character animation research and development for
offline and real time applications, and has a great affinity with computer
graphics, mathematics and software development.
Duties and responsibilities:
* The research and development of 3D character animations based on
offline and real time optical motion capture data in a VR context.
* Development of new projects and collaborations with other
industries/research institutions.
* Close collaboration with other researchers in the team.
* Publication of research results.
Requirements:
* A PhD degree, or a Master degree with several years of R&D in
Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent.
* A proven track record of optical motion capture and 3D character
animations for offline scenarios and/or real time applications.
* Solid software development experience.
* Strong programming skills in C, C++ and/or C#.
* Experience in character animation solutions in modern game engines
such as Unity or Unreal.
* Knowledge of optical motion capture systems and software (body, face
and/or fingers capture), preferably Vicon.
* Experience in the development of IK solutions is a definite plus.
* Experience in the development of VR/AR applications is of advantage.
* Good interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
* Good spoken and written English.
