Starting Research Position at INRIA Rennes

The INRIA Mimetic team has the possibility of funding a 2-year Starting Research Position (SRP) in Rennes, France. The research topic is fully open to all scientific challenges addressed by the Mimetic team, in particular o Human motion analysis through the design of innovative protocols to capture and enhance knowledge on motion control in complex situations, o Autonomous virtual humans through the design of elaborate motions strategies and behaviors in virtual environments, and o Physical activity in Virtual Reality where VR is coupled with human motion simulations to carry out controlled experiments. The conducted research should also address one of the following domains: Sports (performance, evaluation, training), Ergonomics (assessment, work drudgery, workstation improvement), Health (assessment, rehabilitation), Simulation (motion behaviors, planning, navigation, cinematography and storytelling). SRP positions are dedicated to excellent researchers with a PhD in computer science or strongly related to the MimeTIC research topics, and 2 to 8 years of experience after the PhD without limitation in age or nationality. Dear colleagues, We are looking for candidates for a postdoc position at the University of Maryland (UMD), College Park. The successful candidate will work with Prof. Matthias Zwicker, who recently joined UMD as the "Reginald Allan Hahne Endowed Professor" in Computer Science. The intended research topic for this position is at the intersection of 3D geometry processing and deep learning. Strong candidates with an interest in other areas in Computer Graphics or Computer Vision, however, are also encouraged to apply. The position is initially for one year, with an option to extend it to two years. The start date is planned for September 2017, but it can be negotiated if necessary. Required qualifications for this position include a PhD in Computer Science with a specialization in Computer Graphics or Computer Vision, a thorough background on mathematical techniques for graphics and vision, excellent programming skills, and an outstanding record of academic publications. Post-doc positions at Sapienza University of Rome and University of Genoa

The Computational Design Lab at Sapienza University of Rome and the Geometry and Graphics Group at the University of Genoa are seeking candidates for various post-doc positions in Computer Graphics and Computational Fabrication (3D Printing) on the project "D-Surf: Scalable Computational Methods for 3D Printing Surfaces (Italian funding framework PRIN 2015)". The main focus of the project is to study and develop new software technologies to support 3D printing, in particular scalable algorithms to design objects with patterns of predictable appearance and mechanical properties. The project is a joint project among several research groups in Italian universities and public research institutions: Sapienza University of Rome (Prof. Fabio Pellacini, PI) CRS4 - Cagliari (Dr. Enrico Gobbetti) ISTI-CNR - Pisa (Dr. Paolo Cignoni) University of Cagliari (Prof. Riccardo Scateni) University of Genoa (Prof. Enrico Puppo) University of Insubria (Prof. Marco Tarini) University of Verona (Prof. Andrea Giachetti) The Rome and Genoa research Units are primarily involved in the development of techniques for direct drawing and placing patterns on 3D surfaces, and their reproduction on 3D printed object. The main areas of investigation are how to rise the standard 2D vector image techniques to a Riemannian manifold endowed with its own metric, and how to reproduce the optical properties of real materials by computationally mixing printed patterns. The post-docs will be fully involved in these activities under the supervision of both Prof. Pellacini and Prof. Puppo, and will have the opportunity to spend time at both institutions if so desired, and to collaborate with the other partners of the project. Candidates should own a PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics or related subject, have experience in 3D Computer Graphics (rendering, geometry processing, or 3D fabrication) and excellent programming skills. The positions are for one year, renewable to two, and come with a gross salary of between 20 and 35 thousand euros, corresponding to roughly 1500 to 2600 net income a month, including medical benefits. UDMV'2017: Call for papers

Call for papers =============== The UDMV workshop is a place to discuss the modelling and visualisation of the city at various spatial and temporal scales, and aims at sharing associated techniques, methods, uses and points of view. Managing and understanding urban data are major issues as they are represented by several kind of different data sets at various scales. Urban data not only embed the geometry of the city model, but also data related to human activities (e.g. social data, transportation, mobility, history), to physical phenomena (e.g. light, wind, heat), and to environment (e.g. geography, climate). Thus, the processing of urban data is a huge challenge for current GIS and computing capabilities, especially considering all the sustainable development parameters related to architectural design, urban planning and urban climate studies; but also considering the specific needs of entertainment, cultural heritage or any domains using urban data. The workshop aims to gather in a same place GIS, BIM and computer graphics communities. Location ======== Following the success of the 4th workshop on Urban Data Modelling and Visualisation in Liège, Belgium, the smart living lab and the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland in Fribourg propose the 5th edition of the workshop. Under the auspice of the Eurographics organization, the workshop will held on November 24 in Fribourg, Switzerland. Contributions addressing the following topics are welcome ========================================================= The fifth UDMV workshop focuses on users experiences and gives a special emphasis on urban comfort. The user experience relates to urban density, ambiances, vegetation, pollution, networks, and transports. Therefore, all papers dealing with the data modelling and visualisation of the user experience will be greatly appreciated. 15th EUROGRAPHICS Workshop on Graphics and Cultural Heritage Graz, Austria, September 27-29, 2017 https://gch17.tugraz.at/ Extended Full Paper Deadline: ** June 02, 2017 ** The 15th EUROGRAPHICS Workshop on Graphics and Cultural Heritage (GCH 2017) aims to foster an international dialogue between ICT experts and CH scientists to advance the understanding of critical requirements for processing, managing, and delivering cultural information to a broad audience. The objective of the workshop is to introduce and showcase new techniques and applications for supporting Cultural Heritage information ranging from data acquisition, analysis and synthesis, 3D documentation, and data management, to new forms of interactive presentation and 3D printing solutions. Interdisciplinary approaches for analysis, classification and interpretation of cultural artefacts are particularly relevant to the event. GCH 2017 provides a scientific forum to exchange novel ideas and techniques in research, education and dissemination of Cultural Heritage information, to transfer them into practice, and identify future research and application opportunities. To advance the dialogue between ICT and CH experts, GCH 2017 will be held in close cooperation with the Museumsakademie of the Universalmuseum Joanneum in Graz, providing opportunity for exchange between the domains. MIG is sponsored by ACM and held in cooperation with Eurographics. Motion plays a crucial role in interactive applications, such as VR, AR, and video games. Characters move around, objects are manipulated or move due to physical constraints, entities are animated, and the camera moves through the scene. Even the motion of the player nowadays is used as input to such interactive systems. Motion is currently studied in many different areas of research, including graphics and animation, game technology, robotics, simulation, computer vision, and also physics, psychology, and urban studies. Cross-fertilization between these communities can considerably advance the state-of-the-art in the area. The goal of the Motion in Games conference is to bring together researchers from this variety of fields to present their most recent results, to initiate collaborations, and to contribute to the establishment of the research area. The conference will consist of regular paper sessions, poster presentations, and as well as presentations by a selection of internationally renowned speakers in all areas related to interactive systems and simulation. The conference includes entertaining cultural and social events that foster casual and friendly interactions among the participants. Research focuses on Computer Graphics and Visualization within the interdisciplinary research project fast haptic. The main task of the project is the development of a novel display which combines a 3d display and a tactile display. With this new display it will be possible to see virtual objects stereoscopically and at the same time feel them with your fingers. The task of our Chair is to develop a tracking approach for hands and fingers. For this, different sensors will be combined in a way to maximize precision close to the tactile display. Within your work you will design, build and calibrate the sensor setup. Furthermore, you will implement a tracking method that exploits fused sensor data. Requirements: excellent university degree (Master or equivalent) in the field of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or similar fields; ability to work independently and target-oriented in a team; high commitment; fluent in English language to write excellent papers and to participate in international conferences; interest in practice-oriented and interdisciplinary cooperation with partners. Knowledge in usage and calibration of sensors as well as in the implementation with C++ and of GPUs is a plus. The 15th EUROGRAPHICS Workshop on Graphics and Cultural Heritage (GCH 2017) aims to foster an international dialogue between ICT experts and CH scientists to advance the understanding of critical requirements for processing, managing, and delivering cultural information to a broad audience. The objective of the workshop is to introduce and showcase new techniques and applications for supporting Cultural Heritage information ranging from data acquisition, analysis and synthesis, 3D documentation, and data management, to new forms of interactive presentation and 3D printing solutions. Interdisciplinary approaches for analysis, classification and interpretation of cultural artefacts are particularly relevant to the event. GCH 2017 provides a scientific forum to exchange novel ideas and techniques in research, education and dissemination of Cultural Heritage information, to transfer them into practice, and identify future research and application opportunities. They allow the creation of physical objects of complexities not achievable by traditional manufacturing processes. Artists and other professionals in the Arts and Culture sector are experimenting with innovative technical solutions which can support their creative processes. The research of the computer graphics community has the potential to impact on these communities by offering skills, techniques, tools and infrastructure. In its second edition, the workshop aims to bring together communities working on aspects related to computer graphics and digital fabrication for Arts and Culture. The intended audience involves practitioners and experts from a wide range of areas such as computer graphics, additive manufacturing, computer aided design, materials, human computer interaction as well as end users. Topics include are (but are not limited to) the following: - Artistic processes and cultural applications of digital fabrication - 3D printing and fabrication algorithms and applications - Digital fabrication for museums and art galleries - 3D acquisition algorithms and applications - Complex art shapes processes, algorithms, examples - Reproduction of complex materials - Fabrication at different scales from nano to large scales - Fabrication of flexible materials - Digital fabrication using innovative materials and technologies - User applications in arts and culture ***Submission contributions*** We invite submissions of different types: - Research papers: reporting relevant research. Call for Papers 15th EUROGRAPHICS Workshop on Graphics and Cultural Heritage Graz, Austria, September 27-29, 2017 https://gch17.tugraz.at/ Full Paper Deadline: May 05, 2017 The 15th EUROGRAPHICS Workshop on Graphics and Cultural Heritage (GCH 2017) aims to foster an international dialogue between ICT experts and CH scientists to advance the understanding of critical requirements for processing, managing, and delivering cultural information to a broad audience. The objective of the workshop is to introduce and showcase new techniques and applications for supporting Cultural Heritage information ranging from data acquisition, analysis and synthesis, 3D documentation, and data management, to new forms of interactive presentation and 3D printing solutions. Interdisciplinary approaches for analysis, classification and interpretation of cultural artefacts are particularly relevant to the event. GCH 2017 provides a scientific forum to exchange novel ideas and techniques in research, education and dissemination of Cultural Heritage information, to transfer them into practice, and identify future research and application opportunities. To advance the dialogue between ICT and CH experts, GCH 2017 will be held in close cooperation with the Museumsakademie of the Universalmuseum Joanneum in Graz, providing opportunity for exchange between the domains. We seek original, innovative and previously unpublished contributions in the computer graphics area applied to digital cultural heritage, challenging the state of the art solutions and leveraging new ideas for future developments. Cyberworlds 2017 - Second Call for Participation

Apologies for cross postings 2017 International Conference on CYBERWORLDS University of Chester, Chester, United Kingdom 20-22nd September, 2017 In cooperation with the Eurographics Association, ACM SIGGRAPH, and the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) <http://www.cyberworlds-conference.org/> http://www.cyberworlds-conference.org/ Second Call for Participation Cyberworlds are information spaces and communities that use computer technologies to augment the way we interact, participate in business and receive information throughout the world. Cyberworlds have ever-growing impact on our lives and the evolution of the world economy. Examples include social networking services, 3D shared virtual communities and massively multiplayer online role-playing games. As the University of Chester is hosting the 2017 conference we particularly invite submissions based on our specialist areas of virtual and augmented reality, and cybersecurity. However, a broad range of topics will be accepted for CW2017, including: * Applications of augmented and mixed reality * Networked and shared virtual worlds * Virtual collaborative spaces * Shape modelling for cyberworlds * Virtual humans and avatars * Multimodal interaction and rendering * Computer vision for augmented and mixed reality * Cognitive informatics * Brain-computer interfaces * Affective computing * Social computing * Online communities * E-learning in cyberworlds * Multi-user web games * Art and heritage in cyberspace, cyber-museums * Cyberethics and cyberlaws * Cybersecurity * Welfare in cyberworlds * Data mining and warehousing in cyberworlds * Visual analytics in cyberworlds SUBMISSION CATEGORIES include full papers (up to 8 pages), short papers (up to 4 pages), and poster papers (up to 4 pages). The papers must be written in good English, carefully proofread, and formatted to <http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.htm l> IEEE Manuscript Template. Full papers and short papers will be scheduled for oral presentation (25 min full papers, 15 min short papers). Posters/demos will have to be displayed by the authors during the poster session and will also require 1 min fast-forward slide presentation. All three categories of papers will participate in the competition for the Best Paper awards. CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS with all accepted papers will be published by IEEE Conference Publishing Services as well as submitted to the IEEE Xplore Digital Library, IEEE Computer Society Digital Library and reference databases of all major referencing indices (e.g., see the proceedings listed at SCI, Scopus, etc.). KEYNOTE TALKS: * Professor Min Chen, University of Oxford, "Myths and Promises of Data Intelligence". * Dr. Rafal Mantiuk, University of Cambridge, "Towards perceptually realistic visual experience" REGISTRATION and ORAL PRESENTATION of each paper accepted for the conference will be required to be included in the conference proceedings. CONFERENCE VENUE: Chester is one of the most historic cities in the UK and many tourist attractions are nearby. CW2017 will be held in the heart of the city at the Riverside Innovation Centre. Manchester International Airport is 30 miles from Chester and can be reached in 40 minutes by road or 1hr 30 mins by rail. Liverpool Airport is 25 miles from Chester and can be reached in 35 minutes by road.
