/// <http://topoinvis.org/2015/> http://topoinvis.org/2015/
Topology-based methods are of increasing importance in the analysis and
visualization of datasets from a wide variety of scientific domains such as
biology, physics, engineering, and medicine. Current challenges of
topology-based techniques include the extension of concepts to
time-dependent data, the representation of large and complex datasets, the
characterization of noise and uncertainty, the effective integration of
numerical methods with robust combinatorial algorithms, etc.
In this forum we will bring together the most prominent and best recognized
researchers in the field of topology-based data analysis and visualization
for a joint discussion and scientific exchange of the latest results in the
field.
At the workshop we will discuss topics, which include:
* scalar/vector/tensor field topology
* topology of point sets and cell complexes
* multi-field topology
* theoretical models
* combinatorial methods and robustness
* multi-scale representation models
* higher-order topological methods
* time-dependent methods
* feature extraction
* Lagrangian coherent structures
* topology-based denoising
* topological similarity and correlation
* topology simplification
* user interfaces and visualization
* domain specific interpretation of topological constructs and results
* efficiency of topological algorithms
The 2015 workshop in Annweiler, Germany follows the five successful
workshops in 2005 (Budmerice, Slovakia), 2007 (Grimma, Germany), 2009
(Snowbird, USA), 2011 (Zurich, Switzerland), and 2013 (Davis, USA). It will
be held in an open atmosphere of informal discussions, open exchange and
personal interaction. We invite participation at the workshop through full
papers including presentation, or through panels that discuss topics of
interest to the community.
For TopoInVis 2015, we especially solicit work that discusses
implementations of topological analysis and visualization techniques.
Such implementations must be available under an open-source license. It is
our intent to create at TopoInVis a platform to disseminate knowledge about
such implementations throughout and beyond the community.
Corresponding papers are expected to describe the strategies behind their
novel implementation, discuss capabilities, limitations, and performance
characteristics, and compare the presented implementation to similar works
if those exist.
Paper submissions will be peer-reviewed by an international program
committee before the workshop, and must be presented at the workshop. We are
tentatively planning to publish all accepted papers in the Mathematics +
Visualization series of Springer after a mandatory revision incorporating
reviewer comments and discussions at the workshop.

3D Object Retrieval Workshop (3DOR) 2015
Co-located event with Eurographics 2015
Website: <http://vc.ee.duth.gr/3dor2015/> http://vc.ee.duth.gr/3dor2015/
Do you remember the days when retrieving the data that you needed from the
internet was a matter of visiting sites your friends knew? The days when you
would try out alternative search engines to find a single result? Was it a
coincidence that text retrieval engines flourished with the explosion of
textual information on the internet that could not be manually explored?
A new wave of information is now underway. Low-cost 3D scanners and 3D
printers combined with popular applications of Computer Graphics and Vision
are making 3D object models appeal to an increasing audience. See for
example repositories such as <http://shapes.aimatshape.net/>
http://shapes.aimatshape.net/ , <https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/>
https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/.
As these 3D object collections are growing, the importance of effective
retrieval, search and exploration is increasing. Because it is easier to
find something than to create it from scratch and because manual browsing
quickly becomes intractable as a collection grows.
To this effect it is crucial to develop algorithms for the content-based
searching of 3D object collections; creating compact and accurate
descriptors for 3D objects; indexing 3D objects; creating efficient storage
structures for data bases of 3D objects; investigating theoretical aspects
of practical importance such as what it means for two shapes to be similar;
interfaces for content-based 3D object search; visualization techniques for
3D search results; real time aspects of techniques and algorithms. Many
fields of Computer Science and beyond can offer their valuable knowledge to
this complex but highly interesting and practical problem.
The aim of the 3DOR Workshop series is to stimulate researchers from
different fields such as Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Machine
Learning, Cognitive Science and Human-Computer Interaction who work on or
are interested in 3D object retrieval search and exploration, to present
state-of-the-art work in the field or learn about it and participate in
discussions. This will provide a cross-fertilization that will stimulate
discussions on the next steps in this important research area. 3DOR 2015will
be the 8th workshop in this series.
3DOR 2015 will be a 2-day event for the first time and will contain the
following tracks: research papers, posters, 2 keynote speeches (NEW!), EU
project presentations and networking (NEW!), industrial session (NEW!).
Call for Papers, Posters and System Demonstrations
Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished research and
application papers addressing all areas of 3D Object Retrieval. Submissions
are invited in the form of full papers (up to 8 pages) and short papers
presented in a poster session (up to 4 pages).
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
- 3D object similarity and matching
- 3D video retrieval

Contest (SHREC2015). A separate call for participation will be issued
later.
It is planned to have extended versions of selected papers from the Workshop
appearing, after a further review, in a special issue of an international

The Eurographics 2015 Technical Papers programme will showcase innovative
research in Computer Graphics and related areas. We invite submissions of
new ideas, and encourage all forms of research creativity and originality.
We are interested in practice, experience, novel applications, technological
or theoretical papers, with the ambition of setting the standard in the
field and stimulating future trends.
Accepted papers will be presented at Eurographics 2015 and published in a
special issue of the Eurographics journal Computer Graphics Forum.
Therefore, submissions will undergo a two-step review process. We encourage
submissions from all areas related to computer graphics such as rendering,
modeling, animation, visualization, virtual reality, computer vision,
imaging, computer-aided fabrication, human-computer interaction, and related
disciplines.
Submission Dates
A preliminary abstract is due by 23:59 GMT, Friday, September 19, 2014, and
the full paper deadline is 23:59 GMT, Friday, September 26, 2014. Note that
a full paper can only be submitted if an abstract has been submitted by the
abstract deadline.
Submission
Electronic submission of all papers is mandatory and will be conducted using
the <https://srmv2.eg.org/COMFy/Conference%2fEG_2014> Submission and Review
Management (SRMv2) system. Papers must be written in English, they must be
anonymized, and must be formatted according to the Eurographics Computer
Graphics Forum publication guidelines.
<https://srmv2.eg.org/COMFy/Conference/EG_2015/Instruction> The publication
guidelines and LaTeX templates are available on SRMv2. Accepted papers must
be presented in English at Eurographics 2015. This event uses a double-blind
reviewing approach, so please remove all personal data (such as authors,
affiliations, etc.) from your submission. Reviewers are asked to keep
confidential all materials sent to them for evaluation.
Note that this year, there is no arbitrary maximum length imposed on papers.
Papers should be as long as they need to be, but not longer. If a submission
is perceived as repetitive or unnecessarily long, it might be ranked lower
by reviewers than a concisely written submission.
Double Submission Policy
Authors are required to include a declaration that they have not previously
published the scientific contribution claimed in their paper, nor has it
been submitted to or is currently under review in any other conference or
journal before or during the Eurographics 2015 Technical Papers review
period. Any paper that does not adhere to these requirements will be
rejected without review.
Re-Submitted Material
For papers that have previously been reviewed for other venues and have been
rejected or withdrawn, the authors are encouraged to provide a cover letter
to describe the history of the paper (however, this does not imply reviewer
continuity). This cover letter can also answer the comments made in the
previous reviews, by either listing the changes that were made to comply
with them, or discussing/rebutting/clarifying some elements if need be.
Though not mandatory, this procedure is strongly recommended. The cover
letter has to be submitted through the SRM as an Additional Attachment
(last section of the SRM upload form).
Rebuttal, Notification, Publication & Prizes
· The reviews will be made available to the authors on November 13,
2014. A rebuttal period from November 13 to November 18, 2014 will allow
authors to submit a brief document to address any factual errors or clarify
other issues raised in the reviews.
· The date for notification of the results of the first round of the
review process is December 5, 2014.
· Revised versions of the papers conditionally accepted in the first
round must be submitted by December 31, 2014. The final notification of the
outcome of the second reviewing round will be made on January 14, 2015. The
camera-ready version of accepted papers will be due on January 28, 2015.
· From all accepted and presented papers, an international jury will
select the best papers. The best paper will receive the Günter Enderle
Award, including a cash prize of 1000 Euros, presented at Eurographics 2015.

Call for Long & Short Papers
_____
IEEE VR 2015 seeks original, high-quality papers in all areas related to
virtual reality, including augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and
3D user interfaces. Each paper should be classifiable as mainly covering
research, applications, or systems, using the following guidelines for each:
* Research papers should describe results that contribute to advances
in state-of-the-art software, hardware, algorithms, interaction, or human
factors.
* Application papers should explain how the authors built upon
existing ideas and applied them to solve an interesting problem in a novel
way. Each paper should include an evaluation of the success of the use of
VR/AR/MR in the given application domain.
* System papers should indicate how the implementers integrated known
techniques and technologies to produce an effective system, along with any
lessons learned in the process.
Each paper should include an evaluation of the research, including
benchmarking that was performed (e.g., latency or frame-rate).
Topics include:
* Immersive gaming
* 3D interaction for VR/AR/MR
* Input devices for VR/AR/MR
* Haptics, audio, and other non-visual interfaces
* VR systems and toolkits
* Augmented and mixed reality
* Computer graphics techniques for VR/AR/MR
* Advanced display technology
* Immersive projection technology
* Multi-user and distributed VR/AR/MR
* Serious games
* Tracking and sensing
* Modeling and simulation
* User studies and evaluation
* Perception, presence, and cognition
* 3D selection and 3D manipulation
* Locomotion and navigation in virtual environments
* Applications of VR/AR/MR
* Teleoperation and telepresence
This year, we will continue the process of having all accepted long papers
published in a special issue of IEEE Transactions on Visualization and
Computer Graphics (TVCG). To meet TVCG standards, long papers will undergo a
two-stage review process (see SUBMISSION DEADLINES below). Authors of long
papers that are determined to be acceptable with minor revisions during a
first review cycle will be invited to submit a revised version for a second
review cycle. Only long papers that are accepted in this second review cycle
will appear in the journal issue and be presented at the conference.
Short papers can cover preliminary studies, prototype applications, or
initial implementations. Short papers will be published separately in the
standard conference proceedings. The primary difference between short and
long papers is in the size of their contributions and NOT in the
importance/impact of their contributions. To assure this, short and long
papers will be treated as separate tracks and will be accepted or rejected
according to the merit of their contributions. In general, rejected long
papers will NOT be considered for acceptance as short papers, unless the
reviewers unanimously feel this is the right decision, and rewriting is
determined to be doable in the time available. Consequently, authors should
carefully consider the category for each submitted paper.
Note that an abstract must be uploaded prior to the paper. This facilitates
assigning reviewers, as the review process is on a tight schedule. All paper
submissions must be in English. Long papers must not exceed ten (10) pages
in length, with the caveat that the standard is eight (8) pages. Short
papers must not exceed six (6) pages in length. If the reviewers find a
paper overly long for the size of its contribution, they may ask for it to
be shortened it if it is accepted. Both long and short papers should be
formatted using the IEEE Computer Society format described at
<http://www.cs.sfu.ca/%7Evis/Track/vr-menu.html>
http://www.cs.sfu.ca/~vis/Track/vr-menu.html. For index terms, please use
the descriptors from the ACM Computing Classification System, located at
<http://www.acm.org/class> http://www.acm.org/class. For paper and abstract
submissions please visit <https://precisionconference.com/%7Evr>
https://precisionconference.com/~vr.
IEEE VR uses a double-blind review process, meaning both the authors and the
reviewers remain anonymous to each other. Submissions (including citations
and optional videos) should not contain information that unnecessarily
identifies the authors, their institutions, or their places of work.
Relevant previous work by the authors should be cited in the third person to
preserve anonymity. In order to fully explain the relationship between the
submitted paper and relevant previous work by the authors, authors may
additionally upload previous papers as well as a non-anonymous letter of
explanation; these materials will only been seen by the primary reviewer.
All papers must be submitted electronically.
Authors may also submit videos to aid the program committee in reviewing
their submissions. Videos must be submitted according to the instructions at
the conference website. Videos submitted with papers will automatically be
considered for possible inclusion in the video proceedings (video
submissions may also be made independently, as described in the « Call for
Videos »). When submitted as supporting material, videos must be free of
identifying information. If accepted for the video proceedings, a revised
version will be requested.
Paper submissions must not have been previously published. A paper is
considered to have been previously published if it has appeared in a
peer-reviewed journal, magazine, book, or meeting proceedings that is
reliably and permanently available afterward in print or electronic form to
non-attendees, regardless of the language of that publication. A paper
identical or substantially similar in content (in its entirety or in part)
to one submitted to VR should not be simultaneously under consideration for
another conference or journal during the entire VR review process, from the
submission deadline until notifications of decisions are emailed to authors.
SUBMISSION DEADLINES FOR LONG AND SHORT PAPERS:
Each deadline is midnight GMT on the stated day, no matter where the
submitter is located.
Long & Short Paper abstracts due (REQUIRED): September 5, 2014

In 2014, EGUK is changing its focus: the UK chapter wants to encourage more
dialogue between the academic research groups in the UK and between the
academic researchers, industrial researchers and industrial users of the
research. We are therefore introducing the options of presenting
work-in-progress, industrial work, and interim results, in order to
facilitate such dialogue.
The 2014 conference will be an overnight meeting (lunchtime to lunchtime) at
which academic researchers will present work-in-progress and also
fully-fledged research results; at which industrial researchers are invited
to present their latest work; and at which discussion can flow about
mutually-beneficial applications for research funding from the UK and
European governments.
