Theory and Practice of Computer Graphics 2011 Conference: Call For Papers

Call For Papers: EGUK Chapter Conference: <http://www.eguk.org.uk/TPCG11/> http://www.eguk.org.uk/TPCG11/ The 29th Conference organised by the UK chapter of the Eurographics Association will be the ninth Theory and Practice of Computer Graphics 2011 Conference (TP.CG.11). It will take place at the University of Warwick on the 7-9 September 2011, with a paper deadline of May 9th, 2011. All accepted papers will be published by Eurographics and held on the Digital Library, and will be available at the conference. The aim of the conference is to focus on theoretical and practical aspects of Computer Graphics and to bring together top practitioners, users and researchers, which will hopefully inspire further collaboration between participants particularly between academia and industry. The Programme Committee is seeking refereed papers and work-in-progress reports in all aspects of computer graphics and its applications. SGP 2011 Call for Papers

The Eurographics Symposium on Geometry Processing (SGP) is the premier venue for disseminating new research ideas and cutting-edge results in geometry processing. In this research area, concepts from applied mathematics, computer science, and engineering are used to design efficient algorithms for acquisition, reconstruction, manipulation, simulation and transmission of complex 3D models. In 2011, SGP will be held in Lausanne, Switzerland, from July 20 to 22. As new features this year, SGP will offer a graduate school on July 18-19 and install a new software award (see below). We invite submissions related to, but not limited to, the following topics in geometry processing: - Geometry and topology representations - Scanning, reconstruction, reverse engineering - Meshing and remeshing - Simplification, approximation, level of detail - Discrete differential geometry - Smoothing and denoising - Multiresolution shape analysis and synthesis - Surface and volume parameterization - Animation and simulation - Compression of static or animated geometry - Robust geometric computing - Geometry processing applications (e.g., architecture, medicine) - Interactive techniques - Geometric aspects of rendering and other fields PROCEEDINGS The SGP proceedings will appear as a regular issue of Computer Graphics Forum, the International Journal of the EUROGRAPHICS Association. The journal status of the proceedings requires a two-stage review process with conditional acceptance after the first round and final acceptance based on the revised submissions. POSTERS A poster session will provide an additional informative look into ongoing research. Submissions with high potential but which have not been accepted as papers will be invited to be presented in a poster session during the symposium. NEW THIS YEAR: GRADUATE SCHOOL There will be a two-day tutorial on geometry processing from July 18-19, specifically targeted towards graduate students. The courses will be taught by leading experts in the field and complemented by hands-on practical exercises to obtain an in-depth knowledge of the most important aspects of digital geometry processing. NEW THIS YEAR: SOFTWARE AWARD To encourage the distribution of useful, high quality software in geometry processing, we are instituting an award for freely available software related to or useful for geometry processing. CFP - PROCAMS 2011 8th International Workshop on Projector-Camera Systems Colorado Springs, June 24, 2011 http://cs.ubc.ca/labs/imager/PROCAMS2011/ Systems that utilize controllable lighting systems with light sensing devices facilitate a wide range of applications. Examples include 3D scanning, flexible display walls, novel display interaction, reflectance field capture, optical communication, and artistic creations. While the term "projector-camera system" is used, such systems encompass any approach that employs an active, controllable light-source, ranging from LEDs to an array of light projectors, with any light sensing device, ranging from a simple photo-sensor to an array of high-resolution cameras. The PROCAMS workshop series serves as an annual gathering place for researchers and practitioners who use, build, and design computational illumination and imaging systems for a wide variety of applications and purposes. The workshop solicits papers, posters, and demo submissions on all topics relating to projector-camera systems. PROCAMS 2011 will be co-located with the Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR). Indeed, as computers become more and more pervasive, as display sizes both increase and decrease, and as novel surface computing applications are conceived, new and challenging problems arise for the effective use, generation, and interpretation of computer graphics. The International Symposium on Smart Graphics will bring together researchers from Computer Graphics, Visualization, Graphic Art & Graphic Design, Cognitive Psychology and Artificial Intelligence, all working on different aspects of computer-mediated, computer-generated, or computer-interpreted graphics---and the user experiences they enable. This year's meeting will be held in Bremen, Germany. Smart Graphics ************** Graphics become "Smart Graphics" when: * Their design incorporates (and sometimes informs) a deeper understanding of human perception, cognition, and action in the form of design practice and/or cognitive science. * Artificial intelligence drives the creation and interaction with graphics, often incorporating principles from graphic design and the cognitive science of visual representations. * Graphics are designed to effectively support human cognition, communication, and collaboration, for example in the new field of visual analytics. Scope ***** Smart Graphics is grounded in a deep understanding of human abilities, activities, and desires. This understanding arises through the integration of fields such as art, design, and the social, cognitive, and perceptual sciences. Insights are realized in the form of novel methods for producing and interacting with rich graphical displays---often utilizing established techniques from Computer Graphics, Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Science in general. Such interfaces present content that * engages the user and is aesthetically satisfying, * participates in human cognition as external or distributed representations, is sensitive to the real-time demands of the interaction in the context of the available computational resources, and * adapts the form of the output according to a wider set of constraints such as an individual's perceptual, attentive, and motor abilities and the nature of the presentation media and available interaction devices. Smart Graphics research can be loosely divided into principles, methods and systems based research, and the symposium will encourage submissions in all these areas, based on the following characterization: * Principles: Principles of Smart Graphics include: theories of graphics design and visual aesthetics, and theories of graphical representations and interaction, design and testing of graphical systems, constraints on technological, computational and human (perceptual, cognitive and motor) resources, conceptualizations of graphics and interactive systems, representation and reasoning requirements for Smart Graphics, interaction between resource restrictions, design, requirements capture and evaluation methodologies, systems that make people smart. * Methods: New approaches to the design and testing of graphical generation, presentation and interaction for both conventional desk-top systems and new devices and media, acquisition and representation of design knowledge for Smart Graphics generation, empirical methods in the characterization of interaction, dealing with heterogeneous target media, application of planning, decision theory, optimization, constraint satisfaction, machine learning and other AI techniques to Smart Graphics, attentive systems, evaluation methods. * Systems: The application of Smart Graphics to visualization, virtual reality, augmented reality, mobile communications, wearable computing, graphical hypermedia, web-based systems, novel interaction techniques (e.g. attentive systems, haptic and natural language interaction), and advisory & tutoring systems. SG '11 welcomes submissions from computer graphics, HCI & AI researchers and practitioners, cognitive scientists, graphic artists and graphic designers. We specially encourage young researchers to submit their ideas and results. 3DIMPVT 2011: Call for Participation in 3D Urban Data Challenge New Extended Deadline: Feb 28th 2011 Chair: Ioannis Stamos (The City College of New York) <http://www.3dimpvt.org/challenge.php> http://www.3dimpvt.org/challenge.php Laser range scanners have now the ability to acquire millions of 3D points of highly detailed and geometrically complex urban sites, opening new avenues of exploration in modeling urban environments. The 3D Urban Data Challenge, in connection with 3DIMPVT 2011 ( <http://www.3dimpvt.org/> http://www.3dimpvt.org/), is seeking to attract novel algorithms for processing large point clouds in the city-level. We will make available two sets of data. The first (NYC) is acquired by Leica ScanStation2. It contains a number of accurate range scans in New York City. The second (LEX) is acquired by a mobile laser range scanner. It includes color + 3D geometry of a downtown strip. Different from the NYC data set, it includes scans from different times of days. This 4D datasets offer more redundant data that may make some processing tasks easier. We are soliciting solutions in the automated detection and classification of objects of interest or other creative algorithms that use the available datasets. An example problem to tackle is the detection of window features that are prominent in urban scenes, as well as cars on street level, major facades of buildings, balconies, vegetation, street signs, etc. Solutions that explore and detect regularities in urban scenes are of great interest as well. Other creative algorithms for solving problems not mentioned in this document will also be considered. The contributed solutions will be evaluated by a panel of researchers in the area of range image processing, and the best ideas will be presented at a conference session. A summary paper will be included in the MVA journal special issue for 3DIMPVT 2011.
