EuroVis 2009 -- Call For Posters and Demos

----------------------------------------------------------------------------- EuroVis 2009 -- Call For Posters and Demos ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We invite you to contribute to the first Poster/Demo session at EuroVis 2009, to be held in Berlin, Germany, June 10-12, 2009. EuroVis 2009 is the eleventh annual Visualization Symposium, jointly organized by the Eurographics Working Group on Data Visualization and the IEEE Visualization and Graphics Technical Committee. Poster/demo abstract submissions are due April 10, 2009. All poster presenters are encouraged to bring a laptop to present demos and/or videos. In addition to the poster session itself, where all presenters will concurrently discuss their work with EuroVis attendees, there will be a fast-forward session where presenters will have 60 seconds each to preview their work to the whole audience. Posters/Demos is a venue for several kinds of work. We welcome preliminary findings that are not mature enough for a full paper, interesting work with a contribution smaller than a typical research paper (student projects often fall into this category), or late-breaking research where you would benefit from feedback from the community before writing it up as a full paper. There is no explicit research novelty requirement; for instance, we welcome demonstrations of open-source software even if its research aspects have already been published in another venue, presentations of commercial visualization software, or videos showing visualization systems in action. Although a full literature review is not expected, the most relevant previous work should be cited, particularly if new research results are presented. The collection of accepted abstracts will be distributed to conference attendees (xeroxed, black and white only), but they will not be included in the archival proceedings or indexed in a digital library. Thus, posters do not preclude the later submission of work as a full research paper at EuroVis or another venue. Each poster abstract will be read and evaluated by the Conference Chairs. Submissions will be evaluated based on whether the content is suitable for EuroVis and not a repetition of the work of others. Authors of posters that are not accepted will receive summary reviews of their poster from the chairs explaining the decision and providing feedback. New technologies are emerging and existing technologies are evolving to enable the third dimension in web browsers. This also leads to the appearance of a new generation of consumers and producers of 3D content in the new Read-Write Web environment. 14th in the series, the Web3D 2009 International Symposium will address this wide range of topics covering 3D hypermedia on the web. The challenge stems not only from the complexity and diversity of objects and natural phenomena interacting together, but also from the huge amount of small details that should be modeled to obtain realistic models and physically plausible simulations. Therefore, there is still a need for interactive modeling and simulation techniques capable for handling complex synthetic sceneries. The purpose of this workshop is to explore novel techniques for modeling, animating, simulating and rendering complex natural phenomena. The workshop will build on work done in recent years including simulating aging and weathering of synthetic objects, plant modeling, ecosystem simulation, gaseous phenomena and liquid flows. It will focus on non conscious or inanimate nature like rock, trees, oceans, wind, meadows (animals and humans as part of nature should be excluded). Work in this area, promising as it is, is still far from complete. Authors are invited to submit technical papers in these or related areas. Presently, these techniques make full-range 3D data available at interactive frame rates, and thus open the path towards a much broader application of 3D vision systems. The workshop focuses on sensor systems, data processing approaches and systems incorporating interactive, full-range 3D sensors in specific application areas. Inexperience and professional users are becoming more and more actively involved in the content creation pipeline and ask for intuitive and effective tools for creating, sharing, retrieving and re-using 3D content. Search and retrieval of 3D objects is therefore rapidly become a key issue in the upcoming panorama of multimedia content, both in general usage scenarios, such as online gaming or 3D social networks, and in scientific domains, such as molecular biology and medicine. The development of efficient search mechanisms is required for the effective retrieval of 3D objects from large repositories, both of a single class (such as human faces) and across classes. The aim of this workshop is to stimulate researchers from different fields (computer vision, computer graphics, machine learning, human-computer interaction, semantic web) who work on the common goal of 3D object retrieval, to present state-of-the-art work in the field and thus provide a cross-fertilization ground that will stimulate discussions on the next steps in this important research area.
