Fourth Eurographics Workshop on Sketch-Based Interfaces and Modeling
(SBIM '07)
http://www.eg.org/sbm
University of California
Riverside, CA, USA
Thursday August 2 - Friday August 3, 2007
Aims and Scope
Most computer user interfaces continue to be based on the keyboard and
mouse. These are good for typing and pointing, but they lack the
naturalness, transparency, and ease-of-use of basic low-tech pencil
and paper. Modern pen computing hardware--in principle--enables fluid
drawing, sketching, and direct manipulation of both text and
graphics. To realize this potential requires effective user interface
designs and underlying algorithms to support them.
This workshop will explore techniques and technologies needed to
enable sketch-based interfaces. The foci will be on methods for
recognition of hand-drawn shapes and interpretation of diagrams and
sketches, and on applications of sketch-based interfaces to a variety
of domains such as 2D/3D graphics, CAD, diagram editing, and
note-taking. Empirical usability studies aimed at clarifying the
nature of sketch-based interfaces and comparing pen input to other
interaction techniques are also welcome.
The workshop is being held in cooperation with Eurographics and the
American Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence
(AAAI). The workshop dates of August 2-3 are just prior to
SIGGRAPH. The workshop location is Riverside, California, 1.5 hours by
car from the SIGGRAPH venue in San Diego.
The two-day workshop will include paper presentations (single track),
a breakout session, coffee breaks, a conference dinner, and invited
talks. There will be a demo session in which participants have an
opportunity to demonstrate their systems and try out those of the
other participants. All are welcome to attend the workshop; submission
of a paper is not required for attendance.
The proceedings will be published in the EG Workshop series and made
available online through the Eurographics Digital Library. Summaries of
previous Sketch-Based Interfaces and Modeling Workshops can be explored at
http://www.eg.org/sbm.
Authors are invited to submit technical papers on topics including, but not
limited to:
* Low level ink processing
* Sketch segmentation
* Classification and recognition of hand-drawn sketches
* Multimodal interfaces for sketching
* Novel sketch input devices
* Rendering techniques for sketch-based interfaces (NPR)
* Usability studies of sketch-based systems
* Sketch-based interfaces for 2D/3D computer graphics (modeling,
animation, games, etc.)
* Sketch-based CAD systems
* Sketch-based interfaces for other applications (diagram editing,
math, etc.)
* Sketch-based retrieval of multimedia Information
Authors of workshop papers are encouraged to provide demos. We also invite:
* demos of rough ideas and work in progress.
* demos that present and critique commercial pen computing software
* demos of games and other novel applications making creative use of
sketch interfaces
Submission Procedure
Authors are requested to submit papers, no longer than 10 pages, with the
main body set in Eurographics Conference Paper Format. Each paper should
contain title, authors' names and affiliations, abstract, keywords, text,
illustrations, and references. Detailed guidelines and LaTeX style files are
available through the EG Conference Manager (MCP)
(http://egmcp1.cgv.tugraz.at/SRM_SBIM07).
All submissions will be done electronically via the EG Conference
Manager (MCP). Papers will be accepted in PDF format only.
Documentation on and assistance with the submission system is
available at

Call for Papers for CYBERWORLDS 2007
October 24-27, 2007 - Leibnizhaus Hannover, Germany
Conference Web Page: http://www.gdv.uni-hannover.de/hcw07
Cyberworlds are information worlds being formed on the Internet,
either intentionally or spontaneously, with or without design. As
information worlds, they are either virtual or real and can be both.
In terms of information modeling, the theoretical ground for
Cyberworlds is far above the level of integrating spatial and temporal
database models. This conference will deal with large distributed
information worlds on the Internet as well as methods and tools used
for creating such worlds.
A new feature of the conference this year will be topics dealing with
the relation between Cyberworlds and Computational Engineering (CE).
This means, we encourage submissions showing how contributions from
CE will help improving the physical accuracy of Cyberworlds and
Virtual Reality (VR). Vice versa, we also ask for submissions showing
how concepts from Cyberworlds (and VR) help to improve environments
and systems used for CE applications, e.g. medical science.
The conference proceedings will be printed by IEEE. The best papers
will be published in a special issue of "The Visual Computer".
Conference Topics
- Philosophy, evolution, and ethics of Cyberworlds
- Cyberworlds and their impact on the real world
- Cyber ethics and cyber laws
- Cyber security
- Visual Cyberworlds
- Virtual humans in Cyberworlds
- Virtual reality in Cyberworlds
- Computer vision and augmented reality for Cyberworlds
- Intelligent agents in Cyberworlds
- Communication in Cyberworlds
- Distributed virtual environments
- Shared virtual worlds

WORKSHOP ON
DYNAMIC 3D IMAGING
IN CONJUNCTION WITH
Symp. of the German Association for Pattern Recognition, DAGM
September 11th, 2007, Heidelberg
GENERAL INFORMATION
http://www.multi-sensorics.de/dyn3d
IMPORTANT DATES
Submission of full papers: May 14th, 2007
Notification of acceptance: July 30th, 2007
Final versions due: August 10th, 2007
Workshop: September 11th, 2007
SCOPE
3D imaging sensors have been investigated for several decades. In recent
years, improvements on classical approaches like stereo vision on the one
hand, and novel techniques like ZCam or Photonic Mixing Device (PMD) on the
other hand have emerged, leading to 3D vision systems with radically
improved
characteristics. Presently, these techniques make full-range 3D data
available
at interactive frame rates, and thus open the path towards a much broader
application of 3D vision systems.
The workshop focuses on sensor systems, data processing approaches and
systems
incorporating interactive, full-range 3D sensors in specific application
areas.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Development of full-range 3D sensors or sensor systems, including
- active and passive 3D imaging systems
- 3D sensors operating at optical, near-infrared, terahertz and
microwave wavelengths
- sensor simulation
* Multi sensor fusion incorporating full-range 3D sensors
* Data processing for dynamic full-range 3D-data, including
- sensor based image synthesis
- calibration techniques
- 3D object recognition
- 3D optical flow
* Applications using interactive, full-range 3D sensors, e.g. in
areas like
- autonomous robotics
- medicine
- industrial automation
Results of practical significance with an adequate inclusion of interactive
3D
vision sensors will be considered. The content of submitted papers has to be
novel.

3rd Eurographics Workshop on Natural Phenomena 2007
2nd CALL FOR PAPERS
Workshop website: http://www.cgg.cvut.cz/egwnp07
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Submission DEADLINE: May 18, 2007
Venue: September 4, 2007, Prague, Czech Republic

**************************************************************
AIMS AND SCOPE
Synthesizing realistic natural scenes is a challenging and
important problem in computer graphics. The challenge stems
not only from the complexity and diversity of objects and
natural phenomena interacting together, but also from the
huge amount of small details that should be modeled to obtain
realistic models and physically plausible simulations.
Therefore, there is still a need for interactive modeling and
simulation techniques capable for handling complex synthetic
sceneries. The purpose of this workshop is to explore novel
techniques for modeling, animating, simulating and rendering
complex natural phenomena.
The workshop will build on work done in recent years including
simulating aging and weathering of synthetic objects, plant
modeling, ecosystem simulation, gaseous phenomena and liquid
flows. It will focus on non-conscious or inanimate nature like
rock, trees, oceans, wind, meadows (animals and humans as part
of nature should be excluded). Work in this area, promising as
it is, is still far from complete.
Authors are invited to submit technical papers in these
or related areas. Topics of interest include, but are not
limited to:
* Plant structure modeling
* Ecosystem simulation
* Gaseous phenomena (clouds, fog, ...)
* Simulating liquid flows and rain
* Modeling fire and smoke
* Aging and weathering
* Terrain modeling
WORKSHOP FORMAT
The workshop will take place just before the Eurographics 2007
Conference (September 4, Prague, Czech Republic) to encourage
a broad range of participants. As such, it will provide a very
interesting opportunity for researchers that want to attend or
present communications at both events. The workshop will be
held in one day, including paper presentation and invited
sessions. Participation is open to everyone, not requiring
submission of a paper.
Post-workshop proceedings will be available on-line through
the Eurographics Digital Library and in paper book form in the
Eurographics Book Series.

Paper length:
There is no fixed maximum length for a paper. However, the magnitude of
the contribution must be proportional to the length of the paper, and
papers longer than eight typeset pages in the final Eurographics format
must make a very significant contribution to get accepted. Papers of
four or fewer pages will be held to a less strict standard of citation
and description of related work (comparison to the strongest alternative
techniques is still important, but an exhaustive review is not
necessary). All accepted papers are treated equally, i.e., printed in
the proceedings and presented at the conference.
Submission info:
Authors are invited to upload papers electronically in Adobe PDF format
by visiting http://www.graphicshardware.org/submissions.html.
Submissions should follow the formatting guidelines on
http://www.eg.org/publications/guidelines/. We encourage anonymous
submissions (in which the paper contains no information identifying the
authors) whenever possible.
Video sequences in QuickTime, MPEG or AVI format may be submitted using
the electronic submission system.

2007 SIGGRAPH/Eurographics Symposium on Computer Animation
August 3-4, 2007, Wyndham Hotel, San Diego California
www.siggraph.org/sca07
The Symposium on Computer Animation (SCA) is the premier forum for
innovations in the software and technology of computer animation. This
annual event brings together researchers and practitioners working on
all aspects of time-based phenomena. The intimate size, the single
track program, and comfortable surroundings make this symposium an
ideal opportunity to exchange research results and implementation
experiences, and to witness some of the best research in computer
animation.
This year, SCA will be held the 2 days preceeding SIGGRAPH 2007 in San
Diego, at a hotel close to the SIGGRAPH 2007 site.
Submission Deadlines
* Papers: Tuesday, 17 April 2007
* Posters: Wednesday, 30 May 2007
*Call for Participation*
The Symposium on Computer Animation invites submission of original,
unpublished, high-quality papers and posters on algorithms,
applications, and foundations of computer animation. We also encourage
submissions on related problems in computer vision, robotics, game
development, human-computer interaction, visualization, and
others.

Poster presentations are not formal publications, so work submitted as
a poster is still eligible for later publication in a journal or
conference proceedings.
The poster and demo session will be an integral part of the SCA
program, with specific time alloted for poster presenters and
symposium participants to view and discuss the work. Additionally, a
pamphlet containing summaries of all the posters will be distributed
to participants, and all presenters will have the opportunity to give
a one-minute description of their work during a poster fast-forward
session.
Finally, all posters accepted for display at SCA will also be
displayed as part of the SIGGRAPH 2007 poster program, to be held
immediately following SCA.
