Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Computer Graphics, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand

The Faculty of Engineering at Victoria University of Wellington is seeking a new member of our computer graphics teaching and research team. Come and join a collaborative and growing team and combine your passion for knowledge with a life in one of the world’s most desirable countries to live in.

The appointment is at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (equivalent to a US Assistant Professor or Associate Professor), is a 50/50 split between research and teaching, and is for a fixed term of four years. All areas of computer graphics are of interest, but applications are particularly welcome from people with interests in real-time 3D computer graphics.

This is a rare opportunity to develop your academic career in a collegial and collaborative environment at the heart of New Zealand’s nexus of industry, research and government. Wellington’s landscape and lifestyle, along with Victoria University’s standing as the top research institute in New Zealand, means that this position is an outstanding combination of academic opportunity and work/life balance. The Faculty’s strategic direction and commitment to collaborative, inter-disciplinary and world-leading academic work will mean that early-career and mid-career academics will be able to enhance both their research and teaching portfolios. We are committed to combining research excellence with innovative and motivating teaching. For an early-career academic, this is an ideal alternative to a post-doc, allowing you to follow your own research agenda while also gaining valuable teaching experience. For a mid-career academic, we offer a chance to consolidate your position in the international community.

The computer graphics team teaches the specialist computer graphics programmes at Bachelors and Masters level under the leadership of Professor Neil Dodgson, undertakes world-class research including a Doctorate programme, and has recently received significant funding for the new Computational Media Innovation Centre (CMIC), a specialist research hub directed by Professor Ken Anjyo and Associate Professor Taehyun Rhee. We maintain strong connections with companies including Weta Digital (visual effects, based in Wellington), and leading international games and animation companies via CMIC.
