PhD position in Environmental Simulation for climate-adapted planning
VRVis, Austria’s largest research institute for Visual Computing is looking for a skilled and creative mind!
We offer a position for a PhD-student (f/m/d) who will support our research and development in the field of environmental simulation. The results will be integrated into the VRVis’ Software Visdom which is a proven solution for decision support in climate change adaption and disaster management.
You will join our Integrated Simulations R&D-team of highly motivated researchers and software engineers who enjoy finding innovative solutions in a constructive and friendly atmosphere.
Your job
- Research for fast simulation methods on a microclimate scale (water, heat, wind)
- First year: Modelling of blue-green climate adaptation measures and adding a water quality simulation component to our 2D shallow water solver
Your background
- A master’s degree in mathematics, physics, environmental engineering, computer science, or a related field with a focus on numerical problem solving, modelling, and simulation
- Practical knowledge of numerical schemes to solve partial differential equations
- Good understanding of the mathematical theory behind fluid dynamics
- Good programming skills
- Good knowledge of English in speaking and writing; German is appreciated, but not required
Nice to have
- Experience in applying AI-techniques
- Experience with GPU programming (CUDA)
- Experience in microclimate modelling
