We seek applications for a full-time Postdoc position with the Institute of
Computer Graphics and Knowledge Visualization at Graz University of
Technology for a duration of six years. The successful candidate has a PhD
in Computer Science and a track record of research in subjects related to
Computer Graphics and/or Knowledge Visualization as demonstrated by
publications in relevant international journals and conferences. The
research of the position is to be defined in accordance with the interest of

Possible topics include but are not limited to geometric modelling, geometry
processing, virtual reality, 3D object retrieval, knowledge visualization

also contribute to the teaching efforts of the institute in the area of

Geometric Modeling and Processing 2018

GMP is an annual international conference series on geometric modeling,
simulation, and computing. The modeling and processing of geometric data is
fundamental to many computer applications, including computer graphics,
computer vision, CAD/CAM, medical imaging, engineering analysis, robotics,
additive manufacturing, and scientific computation. GMP conferences provide
researchers and practitioners with a forum for exchanging new ideas,
discussing new applications, and presenting new solutions. The organizers of
GMP 2018 invite submission of full-length papers on topics including, but
not limited, to the following:

Paper Submission and Proceedings:
English is the official language of the conference. Manuscripts must be
written in English. The submitted papers should present previously
unpublished, original results that are not simultaneously submitted
elsewhere. All papers will be rigorously peer-reviewed by members of the
international program committee. The review will be double-blind. For paper

The conference proceedings will be published in a special issue of
Computer-Aided Geometric Design (Elsevier). To meet the high standards of
this journal, papers will undergo a two-stage review process. Authors of
papers that are determined to be acceptable with minor revisions during a
first review cycle will be invited to submit a revised version for a second
review cycle. Only the papers that are accepted in this second review cycle
will appear in the journal issue and be presented at the conference.
Submissions with strong potentials but requiring major revisions will be
recommended to Computer-Aided Geometric Design for a fast-track submission
process with optional reviewer continuity.

We invite you to participate in the 10th ACM SIGGRAPH Conference on
Motion in Games (MIG)
2017, November 8-10 in Barcelona, Spain. MIG is sponsored by ACM and
held in cooperation with Eurographics.
Motion plays a crucial role in interactive applications, such as VR, AR,
and video games. Characters move around, objects are manipulated or move
due to physical constraints, entities are animated, and the camera moves
through the scene. Even the motion of the player nowadays is used as
input to such interactive systems. Motion is currently studied in many
different areas of research, including graphics and animation, game
technology, robotics, simulation, computer vision, and also physics,
psychology, and urban studies. Cross-fertilization between these
communities can considerably advance the state-of-the-art in the area.
The goal of the Motion in Games conference is to bring together
researchers from this variety of fields to present their most recent
results, to initiate collaborations, and to contribute to the
establishment of the research area. The conference will consist of
regular paper sessions, poster presentations, and as well as
presentations by a selection of internationally renowned speakers in all
areas related to interactive systems and simulation. The conference
includes entertaining cultural and social events that foster casual and
friendly interactions among the participants.

New Post-Doctoral Position Opening
The Interactive Graphics and Simulation (IGS) Group, established in
2014 at University of Innsbruck, Austria, invites applications for the
position of a full-time post-doctoral researcher.
We are seeking a highly-qualified individual with interest and skill
in some of the fields related to the research themes of the IGS group.
This could include, but is not limited to: medical training systems,
virtual/augmented reality, physically-based simulation, or computer
haptics.
Candidates should have earned a doctoral degree in a relevant field
(Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Mechatronics, or other related
areas), possess a publication record commensurate with experience, and
have demonstrated strengths in some of the interest domains of the IGS
group, as outlined above. Knowledge and experience in programming in
C/C++ is required, as well as a good level in English, both written
and spoken.
Some experience in teaching and project management is a benefit.
We seek a candidate showing enthusiasm for leading-edge research, team
spirit, and capability for independent problem-solving. Applicants are
expected to assume active roles in research projects, and in
supervision of junior researchers and students. Responsibilities also
include minor teaching requirements. The research directions of the
position are flexible to be defined in accordance with the interest of
a successful candidate and the interests of the group.

Funded PhD Positions in
Geometric Computing / Computer Graphics / Virtual Reality
The work in this position will be carried out within the project "EASE -
Everyday Activity Science and Engineering", which is to perform fundamental
research to enable robots to perform human everyday activities, such as
setting a table or loading a dish washer.
One strand of research of the CGVR lab in this endeavor is sub-project H01
("Acquiring activity models by situating people in virtual environments"),
where we will deal specifically with the challenge of grasping. Here, the
task is to develop novel methods such that a human user can grasp virtual
objects using a virtual hand with high simulation fidelity and high
dexterity. The goal is to allow humans to interact with virtual objects just
like in real live, and to study their grasping behaviors under a large
variety of scenarios and parameters.
The other strand of research is sub-project R03 ("Embodied
simulation-enabled reasoning"), where we are to develop algorithms that
enable robots to "envision" the outcomes of their tentative plans by
simulating the real world around them, before they actually follow through
with their plan. This requires novel methods for faster-than-realtime
physically-based simulation and the development of predicates in order to
evaluate the outcomes.
The work will involve research on geometric real-time algorithms and
physically-based simulation. In addition, it will involve computer graphics
and virtual reality, in general. Also, while we don't prove theorems, you
should be comfortable with mathematical thinking and applying maths.

EuroVis 2018 is the 20th annual scientific gathering on visualization
jointly organized by the Eurographics Working Group on Data Visualization
and the IEEE Visualization and Graphics Technical Committee. EuroVis
2018 will be held in Brno, Czech Republic, from 4-8 June 2018.
Like last year, all accepted EuroVis 2018 STAR reports will be published
in Computer Graphics Forum. State-of-the-Art Reports (STARs) are intended
to provide up-to-date and comprehensive surveys on topics of interest to
the visualization research community. We encourage the submission of
STARs on topics that have not yet been covered in any recent previous
STAR or other survey. We welcome submissions that introduce emerging
technologies, as well as proposals on more traditional visualization
topics. We also welcome contributions from related disciplines and
application areas demonstrating contributions to, or benefits from,
the area of visualization including, but not limited to, visual computing,
computer graphics, human-computer interaction, virtual reality,
image processing, computer vision, psychology, geography, chemistry,
computational fluid dynamics, data analysis, computational sciences,
medicine, biology, economy, politology, etc.
As part of the acceptance process into Computer Graphics Forum, STARs
will undergo a multi-stage process. First, authors are asked to submit
an initial sketch by 13 October 2017. A STAR sketch briefly describes the
planned STAR by outlining the topic, discussing its relevance to the
visualization community, providing the planned structure and outline of
the STAR together with all key references, and short biographies of the
authors. The length of a STAR sketch main text is limited to two pages.
References and short biographies are considered supplementary pages and
are not counted within the two page limit. Bibliographies are be limited
to 200 words per author. The format of the sketch can be found at

STAR sketches will be reviewed by the STAR IPC and comments on suitability
and relevance will be provided by 3 Nov 2016. Authors will then be required
to submit a full STAR. Full STAR submissions will then undergo a single
blind, double cycle review, similar to the one for regular papers submitted
to Computer Graphics Forum, where three external experts on the respective
topic will evaluate the STAR. Full submissions are 25 pages maximum. To
demonstrate the relevant expertise needed to produce the proposed STAR,
authors are required to submit the brief biographies of all authors as
supplementary materials.
Electronic submission of the STAR sketch and full proposal is mandatory and
will be conducted using https://precisionconference.com/~vgtc/ according to
the guidelines defined at:

We plan to schedule each STAR as an approximately 45 minute presentation
(subject to the schedule management of the EuroVis 2018 program). In any
