SBIM 2010 Call For Participation
Created in 2004, the Eurographics Symposium on Sketch-based Interfaces and
Modeling (SBIM) provides a unique venue for researchers, students and
practitioners interested in sketch-based techniques to interact with one
another, share lessons learned, show new results and discuss open issues.
The goal of this symposium is to explore models, algorithms and technologies
needed to enable effective sketch-based interfaces. It investigates novel
methods for classification and recognition of hand-drawn shapes, and the
ways of using these techniques for creating or editing digital models, from
text, mathematics, and 2D diagrams to 3D shapes. Likewise, the symposium
explores the application of sketch-based interfaces to 3D computer graphics,
animation, and CAD, as well as other specific applications such as diagram
editing and note taking and novel input devices. Finally, the symposium
welcomes empirical user studies aimed at clarifying the nature of
sketch-based interfaces and comparing them to other interaction techniques.
This year, the symposium will be held in Annecy, France and will be
co-located with the 8th Symposium on Non Photorealistic Animation and
Rendering (NPAR 2010) and the Annecy film festival -- for more information
see http://graphics.cs.williams.edu/sbim-npar10/ . The symposium will
include paper presentations (single track), coffee breaks, demonstrations, a
social event, and a keynote talk by (to be determined). All are welcome to
attend SBIM; submission of a paper is not required for attendance. The
proceedings will be published in the EG Symposia series and made available
online through the Eurographics and ACM Digital Libraries.

Cyberworlds are information worlds or communities created on cyberspace by
collaborating participants either intentionally or spontaneously. As
information worlds, they accumulate information regardless whether or not
anyone is in, and they can be with or without 2D or 3D visual graphics
appearance. The examples of such cyberworlds are communities created in
different social networking services, 3D shared virtual environments, and
multiplayer online games. Cyberworlds are closely related to the real world
and have a serious impact on it. Cyberworlds have been created and applied
in such areas as e-business, e-commerce, e-manufacturing, e-learning,
e-medicine, and cultural heritage, etc. Cyberworlds augment and sometimes
replace the real life and become a significant component of real economy.
The international conferences on Cyberworlds have being organized annually
since 2002 with the proceedings published by IEEE Computer Society and
special issues published in The Visual Computer and other research journals.
10th in the series, CW2010 will consist of paper sessions, tutorials,
industrial seminars, exhibitions and hands-on demonstrations where
researchers, artists, and vendors will show the state-of-the-art in the
field. CW2010 will have several parallel tracks including but not limited to
the following topics:
Shared virtual worlds; Virtual collaborative spaces; Shape modeling for
cyberworlds; Virtual humans and avatars; Intelligent talking agents;
Networked collaboration; Haptic interaction and rendering; Computer
vision, augmented, mixed and virtual reality; Human-computer interfaces;
Cognitive informatics; Brain-computer interfaces; EEG-based emotion
recognition; E-learning in virtual collaborative spaces; Multi-user web
games; Art and heritage in cyberspace; Cyber-museums; Cyberworlds and
their impact on the real worlds; Cyberethics and cyberlaws;

Computational Aesthetics 2010 - London, UK.
UPDATE 1 - Deadline extended until February 26th 2010.
***UPDATE 2 - The best papers will be submitted to a special issue of
Computers & Graphics.***
Call for papers
Computational Aesthetics bridges the analytic and synthetic by integrating
aspects of computer science, philosophy, psychology, and the fine, applied &
performing arts. It seeks to facilitate both the analysis and the
augmentation of creative behaviours. CAe also investigates the creation of
tools that can enhance the expressive power of the fine and applied arts and
furthers our understanding of aesthetic evaluation, perception and meaning.
The conference brings together individuals with technical experience of
developing computer based tools to solve aesthetic problems and people with
artistic/design backgrounds who use these new tools.
Invited talks will be given by technical, theoretical and artistic/design
figures. The talks will help participants better understand what aesthetics
is, what computer technology is currently capable of and, equally, to fully
appreciate what is involved in artistic design and creative process.
Refereed papers and artworks will be presented in a single track program
that aims to facilitate a dialogue between scientists and engineers who are
creating new tools, and also artists and designers who use them.
Presentations will provide a snapshot of the latest technical breakthroughs
and the most recent artistic or design achievements in applying computer
based techniques to solve aesthetic problems.
Technical submissions are invited across the broad range of areas covered by
Computational Aesthetics. Specific technical areas include, but are not
limited to:
a.. computational analysis and modelling of creative behaviour (AI,
A-life);
b.. artistic image transformation techniques (colours, edges, patterns,
dithering);
c.. image style and salience analysis (paintings, photographs, others);
d.. visualization (perceptual or aesthetics based);
e.. sketching, simplification techniques (artistic, cognitive);
f.. composition, visual balance, layout;
g.. non-photorealistic rendering;
h.. empirically based metrics of aesthetical attributes; and
i.. applied visual perception (colour appearance, spatial vision, and
other aspects).
j.. measuring and describing aesthetics and
k.. computational tools for artists
Technical Paper Submissions
Technical papers should present original, unpublished work. The manuscripts
must be written in English, must be formatted according to the EG
publication guidelines (see the submission site for the LaTeX templates),
and should be no longer than 8 pages.
For all Submissions see:
http://graphics.uni-konstanz.de/cae2010/
You can start a new submission at the EG submission site:
