EG VCBM 2021 - Call for Papers

EG VCBM 2021 Call for Papers <http://www.vcbm.org/> http://www.vcbm.org/ Eurographics Workshop on Visual Computing for Biology and Medicine 2021 in Paris, France and online. * Workshop Dates: September 22 - September 24, 2021 * Submission Deadline (full, survey, and short papers): July 2, 2021 Aims and Scope EG VCBM (http://www.vcbm.org/), the Eurographics Workshop on Visual Computing for Biology and Medicine, is an annual event addressing the state of the art in visual computing research with a strong focus on applications in biology and medicine. It provides an interdisciplinary forum for experts (researchers and practitioners) from visualization, visual analytics, computer graphics, image processing, computer vision, human computer interfaces as well as experts from biology and medicine, jointly working on next generation visual computing solutions for medicine, healthcare and the biotechnology sector. This years workshop (already the 11th VCBM since its foundation in 2008) will be held from September 22 to September 24, 2021, in Paris, France. We currently hope to have a hybrid event at which people can meet in person in Paris. In any case, there will be an option to attend this years VCBM virtually for those who may not be able to travel. EG VCBM solicits the submission of original, application-oriented research papers that advance the fusion of visual computing methods within medicine and biology. All papers (regular papers as well as short papers) should focus on a well-defined biological/medical problem, and demonstrate a significant innovation or improvement in visual computing. Suggested topics for full and short papers include, but are not limited to: * Visual computing solutions for medical applications like radiology, surgery, pathology, cardiology, nephrology, neurology, etc., including medical education * Visual computing solutions for applications that support biomedical research in systems biology, *omics research, molecular pathology, neuroanatomy, biomedical imaging, etc. * The use of virtual reality and augmented reality in biomedical applications (e.g., for surgical procedures, molecular visualization) * Visualization approaches for data from new or challenging imaging modalities (e.g., real-time ultrasound, CyTOF, Spectroscopy, layer fMRI) * Visual computing solutions in the context of the virtual physiological human. * Medical simulation and visual computing solutions that support new approaches in computational medicine. * Visual analytics in Behavioral Biology (e.g., collective behaviour) or epidemiology (e.g., population studies) In addition to that, we solicit: * Survey papers on visual computing in biology and medicine Information for Authors In addition to full-length papers, there will again be a short papers track and a survey track, encouraging scientific contributions from an even more diverse group of researchers and practitioners. All VCBM 2021 papers (full, short and surveys) will be peer-reviewed and will appear in the Eurographics Digital Library. We encourage the use of digital videos to support all submissions, particularly if part of, or all of the work covers interactive techniques. Please use only the most common video codecs such as MP4 H.264 to maximize the chances that the reviewers can view it. * Full Papers: We do not impose strict maximum lengths for submitted papers to the full papers track. However, it is unusual for papers to exceed 10 pages (in CGF latex style including all images and references). Papers should only be as long as their content would justify. Reviewers might rate a submission lower if it is perceived as being unnecessarily long or might recommend it for a short paper, instead. Authors are encouraged to use supplementary material, such as videos or executable programs to provide extra content. The authors of the best papers (usually the best three papers) are invited to submit an extended version of their work to Computer Graphics Forum (CGF), provided that their work fits into the scope of CGF. * Short Papers: Short papers describe a more focused and concise research contribution and are likely to have a smaller - yet significant - scope of contribution. Potential examples include the presentation of initial results from novel ongoing research projects or the exploration of new application areas. Short papers draw from the same list of topics as full papers. Their length is limited to a total of 5 pages (including references). * Surveys: We do not impose strict maximum lengths for submitted papers to the surveys track. However, it is unusual for surveys to exceed 20 pages (in CGF latex style including all images and references). Authors are encouraged to use supplementary material, such as videos, to provide extra content. VCBM 2021 will also feature a poster and an image contest program, the details of which will be announced in a separate call. Search engines are now the default way in which most people engage with information, as the vast majority of information is born digital. 3D digital content is today pervasive: low-cost 3D scanners, 3D printers, and powerful modelling software have made 3D models appeal to an increasing audience. Repositories of 3D objects are rapidly growing in both number and size. Time-dependant acquisition, animation and simulation give rise to 3D objects as a function of time, yielding 4D objects. Yet, the task of exploring such large 3D/4D object repositories and retrieving the models of interest remains a challenging problem. It is crucial to develop algorithms for content-based searching of 3D object collections; creating compact and accurate descriptors for 3D objects; creating efficient storage structures for databases of 3D objects; investigating theoretical aspects of practical importance, such as the definition of the similarity concept; interfaces for content-based 3D object search; visualization techniques for 3D search results; real time aspects of techniques and algorithms; new challenges such as faceted 3D browsing, social search and navigation of hybrid datasets. The complex yet concrete problems above are drawing increasing attention from the research community, which is becoming more and more varied in terms of disciplines needed to solve various facets of the challenges. The 3DOR Workshop series has been characterized since the beginning by a specific attention to benchmarking with the organization of the session on the 3D Shape Retrieval Contest (SHREC). The general objective of the 3D Shape Retrieval Contest is to evaluate the effectiveness of 3D-shape retrieval methods and algorithms. SHREC 2021 is the 16th edition of the contest. As in previous years, it is organized in conjunction with the Eurographics Workshop on 3D Object Retrieval. Results papers from SHREC tracks will be reviewed in a two stage-review process, like regular full papers (see below). Call for Papers Authors are invited to submit original and unpublished research and application papers addressing all areas of 3D/4D Object Retrieval. State of the art papers on specific topics of interest are particularly welcome. Submissions are invited in the form of full papers, which will be peer-reviewed by a two-stage review process, and published as a special section of Computers and Graphics Journal (Elsevier). Also, short papers are invited, which will follow a one-stage review process and will appear in the Eurographics Digital Library (pending). MLVis 2021: Machine Learning Methods in Visualisation - Call For Papers https://www.tuni.fi/mlvis2021/ MLVis 2021 will be a co-located workshop at EuroVis 2021. It aims to bring Machine Learning and Visualization researchers together in order to exchange research ideas. We solicit short papers on machine learning methods in visualisation, from both the machine learning and visualisation communities, addressing how the two technologies can be used together to provide greater insight to end users. Paper submissions for MLVis should be at most 4 pages in MLVis 2021 latex style (provided on the website), with an additional page allowed for references. CfP: EGPGV 2021 (Extension of Regular Deadline)

*** Please note the extended abstract+paper submission deadlines below *** EGPGV 2021 -- Call for Papers The Eurographics Symposium on Parallel Graphics and Visualization (EGPGV) aims to foster the exchange of experiences and knowledge on exploiting and defining new trends in parallel graphics and visualization. This area is of growing importance due to the rapidly increasing availability of multi-core CPUs, GPUs, and cluster systems. Computationally demanding and data-intensive applications in graphics and visualization are strongly affected by this trend and require novel, efficient parallel solutions. EGPGV 2021 will take place on June 14, 2021, and be co-located with EuroVis 2021, held June 14-18, 2021, in Zurich, Switzerland. The proceedings of EGPGV will be published in the Eurographics Proceedings Series and in the Eurographics Digital Library. Best papers from the EGPGV symposium will be invited to submit an extended journal version to IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics. EGPGV seeks papers on graphics and visualization that involve any type of parallel computing, and/or focus on very large data sets. Papers on techniques, data structures, algorithms, systems, and applications are welcomed. Parallel computing is broadly defined, including high-performance computing and cloud environments, (multi-)GPU computing and heterogeneous, hybrid architectures, and shared and/or distributed memory architectures. Further, papers focused on processing very large data sets (either for visualization or graphics) are welcomed, even if they do not have a particular focus on parallelism. Typical symposium topics include: - Computationally and data-intensive rendering - Scientific visualization (e.g., volume, flow, and tensor visualization) - Information visualization and visual analytics - In situ analytics and in situ visualization - Out-of-core processing of large data sets for visualization or graphics - Simulations for virtual environments (physics-based animation, collision detection, acoustics) - Mesh processing, level-of-detail, and geometric methods - Visual computing (image- and video-based rendering, image processing and exploitation, segmentation) - Scheduling, memory management, and data coherence - Parallelization approaches and algorithms, such as MapReduce - Database-related methods, algorithms or approaches, and query-based visualization - Advanced hardware for data handling or visualization - Large and high-resolution displays, virtual environments - Scientific, engineering, and industrial applications - Data analytics on large scientific data sets - Machine learning as applied to parallel graphics, visualization and/or large data analytics In general, appropriate topics for the symposium fall into one of four categories: (1) parallel graphics, (2) rendering of very large data sets, (3) parallel visualization and analytics, and (4) processing of large data sets for visualization or analytics. We already had an early submission deadline last December, and we are now asking for submissions to the regular submission deadline given below. Please notice also that this year there is again an abstract submission deadline one week in advance to the paper submission deadline. Dear colleagues, We would like to invite you to contribute to: ******************************************************************************* VisGap - The Gap between Visualization Research and Visualization Software (co-located with EuroVis 2021) June 14th, 2021, online / Zurich, Switzerland ******************************************************************************* Over the years, many visualization methods and tools have been developed and published by the visualization research community. However, most of these are prototypes and never reach a state that can be reliably used by the target audience, e.g., domain scientists. Also, availability of these prototypes as source code or at least as executables is still the exception rather than the norm. The VisGap Symposium aims to shed a light on this gap between research and practical applicability, examine the obstacles every researcher faces, and propose solutions to overcome this problem as a community. VisGap'21 aims at gathering experts from all over the visualization community in order to advance the way our field works with software, sustains software, and values the effort our members put into developing said software. We solicit papers with 4-8 pages, with an additional page allowed for references. All submissions must be original works that have not been published previously in any conference proceedings, magazine, journal, or edited book or must present a substantial extension of previous work (at least 30%). Papers must be submitted through PCS (https://new.precisionconference.com/). All submissions will undergo a single-blind, single-stage peer review process. Accepted papers will be published by the Eurographics Association, and be stored in the Eurographics Digital Library. At least one author of each accepted paper must register and participate in the VisGap'21 workshop to present their work.
