As in previous years, SGP 2019 will offer the following awards (alongside the best paper awards, and the participation in the reproducibility stamp), for which we would appreciate your nominations. The official call can be found here: <https://sgp2019.di.unimi.it/awards.html> https://sgp2019.di.unimi.it/awards.html
Software Award
To encourage the distribution of high quality software in geometry processing, since 2011 an annual award has been given for freely available software related to or useful for geometry processing. A list of recipients from previous years can be found at: http://awards.geometryprocessing.org
Eligibility. The nomination should include a description of the software and its functionality, as well as a justification why and to what extend the Geometry Processing community benefits from this software. Links to the code and additional material should also be included if possible. Every software project is eligible as long as:
• It can be counted as a Geometry Processing contribution.
• It is available for free to academic researchers in the field (i.e., for non-commercial use).
Procedure. Please send nominations and applications for the software award to <mailto:awardnominations@geometryprocessing.org> awardnominations(a)geometryprocessing.org . All members of the Geometry Processing community can nominate their favorite software (possibly including their own) for the software award, by writing an email to the SGP award chairs with a few words describing the software and why it is worthy of the award. The chairs will collect the nominations, and a dedicated committee will decide on the winner, following the guidelines described above.
Please send nominations and applications for the software award until 5 June 2019 to <mailto:awardnominations@geometryprocessing.org> awardnominations(a)geometryprocessing.org
SGP Dataset Award
The main goal of this award is to highlight the importance of high-quality datasets and benchmarks to the advancement of the Geometry Processing community, and to recognize the suppliers of such datasets. Similar to the software award, the dataset award will provide recognition of the effort and time put into preparing an important tool and stimulus for research.
We encourage submissions that initiate novel research directions by asking difficult questions, either in a form of a benchmark, or possibly by highlighting challenges previously ignored by the community. This way, researchers in Geometry Processing will hopefully become aware of both problems that are not addressed by existing algorithms and new applications in other domains. At the same time, we hope to acknowledge the impact of existing and established datasets that have helped to advance the field of Geometry Processing.
Eligibility. The dataset must be freely available (i.e., must come at no cost), and must be covered by a license allowing free academic use to be eligible for the award. We will also allow datasets that might have been obtained by collecting from different sources, rather than created from scratch (such as the Princeton Shape Benchmark), especially in the case where such datasets come with a novel challenge or problem for Geometry Processing. However, we will give preference to original datasets that have been created directly by their providers. Of course, the nominees should be relevant to the Geometry Processing community, and therefore the datasets must have some "geometric" flavor. However, another goal behind this award is to expand our understanding of what geometric datasets might entail, and therefore we will also consider datasets that have not traditionally been used in the SGP community (for example, volumetric data, point cloud samplings of unusual objects, etc.)
Procedure. Please send nominations and applications for the dataset award to awardnominations(a)geometryprocessing.org <mailto:awardnominations@geometryprocessing.org> . All members of the Geometry Processing community can nominate their favourite dataset (including possibly their own) for the dataset award by writing an email to the SGP award chairs with a few words describing the dataset and why it is worthy of the award. The chairs will collect the nominations, and a dedicated committee will decide on the winner, following the guidelines described above.
Please send nominations and applications for the dataset award until 5 June 2019 to <mailto:awardnominations@geometryprocessing.org> awardnominations(a)geometryprocessing.org

The 18th annual Symposium on Computer Animation (SCA) will be held in Los
Angeles, CA, July 26-28, 2019, just before Siggraph, on the beautiful campus
of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). SCA is the premier
forum for innovations in the software and technology of computer animation.
It unites researchers and practitioners working on all aspects of time-based
phenomena. Our focused, intimate gathering, with single track program and
emphasis on community interaction, makes SCA the best venue to exchange
research results, get inspired, and set up collaborations.
We invite submissions to the poster and demo session, which is an integral
part of the SCA program. As with previous years, poster abstracts will be
included in the ACM and EG Digital Libraries, thus providing a better and
longstanding referencing to the works. Note however that as usual, an SCA
poster does *not* preclude subsequent publication of a complete paper on the
same topic by the same authors. (However, an SCA poster by other authors is
considered prior art and should be cited as such.)
We encourage any of the following types of poster submissions:
- Up and coming computer animation research
- Technically novel production work
- Work done outside of SCA that would be of interest to the computer
animation community. This includes animation-related works recently accepted
to other conferences.
- Half-baked ideas and negative results

COMPUTER GRAPHICS & VISUAL COMPUTING 2019 (CGVC2019)
The 37th Annual Conference organised by the UK chapter of the
Eurographics Association,
12-13 September 2019, Bangor University, UK
http://www.eguk.org.uk/CGVC2019/
======================================================
The annual EGUK conference is a meeting place for all those in the UK
working in computer graphics and visual computing (including, Computer
Graphics and Vision, Information and Scientific Visualization, and
Visual Analytics). It attracts researchers from across the country and
from further afield.
The 2019 conference Computer Graphics & Visual Computing will be an
overnight meeting (lunchtime to lunchtime). The conference wants to
focus on increasing the dialogue between academic research groups,
researchers in academic and in industrial developments. In order to
facilitate such dialogue, we are seeking contributions in the form of
full papers, short papers, viewpoint papers and extended abstracts
(posters). Optional single-blind or double-blind - reviewers’
identities are not revealed. Authors may choose whether to anonymize
their submission or not.
• Full papers - a paper of 4 to 8 pages describing completed research,
plus an additional page of references. Papers are refereed by members
of an international program committee (IPC). Authors of accepted
papers are expected to give a 15-20 minute presentation at the
conference. Accepted papers will appear in the Eurographics digital
library and will serve as full paper publications.
• Short papers - The purpose of short papers is to present
late-breaking results, work-in-progress, and follow-up extensions or
evaluations of existing methods. Short papers will be peer-reviewed in
a one-stage process by an international program committee (IPC). They
will be electronically archived and are fully citable publications.
Submissions for the short paper track should be at most 4 pages, with
an additional page allowed for references. Accepted short papers will
be presented orally at the conference in (approximately) 12-15 minute
presentations.
• Viewpoint Papers (aka. Position paper) - Viewpoint paper track
enables researchers a new possibility to publish their ideas.
Viewpoints articles offer detailed technical opinions on trends in
visual computing or reports on how visual computing has contributed to
the comprehension of data or phenomena, without the need to present
completed research work and/or validated results. We encourage
discussions of challenges or limitations in today's methods and areas
of potential new topics of research. We are also interested in
application discussions that focus on, for example, the areas of
physical, life or social sciences, engineering, or commerce, or areas
related to the process of visual computing in general. We encourage an
emphasis on lessons learned from practical experience for application
discussions, particularly where visual computing has been employed in
a real, working environment. Viewpoint papers are submitted with
author names and affiliations (at most 4-pages). Accepted viewpoint
papers will be electronically archived, are fully citable publications
and will be presented orally at the conference in (approximately)
12-15 minute presentations.
• Extended Abstracts (Poster Papers) - The purpose of this track is to
present late-breaking results, work in progress, and follow-up
extensions or evaluations of existing methods. In particular, it
provides young researchers, especially postgraduate students, with
valuable opportunities to receive feedback from other researchers, and
engage in stimulating discussions. The poster track will be managed by
the co-chair team and the International Program Committee (IPC). We
solicit poster submissions in the form of an extended abstract of at
most 2 pages (with an additional page allowed for references only).
Posters will be peer-reviewed in a one-stage process. Accepted
posters, size A1 recommended, will be presented at the poster viewing
session of the conference.
In addition to directly submitted posters, some submissions to the
full, short and viewpoint paper tracks, that are not accepted for
publication but are deemed suitable, will be offered an opportunity to
be presented as posters. Such submissions will not require an
additional review process.
Accepted abstracts (poster papers) do not appear in the Eurographics
digital library, and will not be considered as a paper publication,
instead being similar to a SIGGRAPH one-page sketch or to a conference
poster without an associated full paper. As such, presenting an
extended abstract or a poster at the conference has no effect on your
ability to publish a fuller version of the same work in another venue.

A funded PhD studentship is available at the Department of Computer Science
and Technology, beginning in either October 2019 or January 2020. This
doctoral studentship is for both UK/EU and overseas applicants interested in
working on a PhD thesis in the area of machine learning for computational
photography. The application must be submitted by 30 June 2019.
The studentship will involve work on improving the visual quality of video
captured with digital sensors. Such video may be affected by noise, extreme
illumination conditions (high dynamic range) and sensor limitations. The aim
is to develop algorithms that combine both machine learning and
computational photography methods to recover video of higher visual quality
than the input. This could involve, for example, upscaling the content from
standard- to high-dynamic range or reducing the visibility of noise in dark
areas, while ensuring that the reconstructed video is temporarily stable.
