Starting Researcher, Postdoc, Ph.D. and Engineer Openings at
Inria/GRAPHDECO, (Sophia-Antipolis, France)
FUNGRAPH is an ERC Advanced Grant in the GRAPHDECO research group (
<http://team.inria.fr/graphdeco> http://team.inria.fr/graphdeco)
at Inria Sophia-Antipolis (South of France), starting fall 2018.
The high level goal of the project is to build new foundations for rendering
in
Computer Graphics, by taking into account uncertainty in rendering
algorithms and
in the data (geometry, materials, lights) we use to render Computer
Graphics.
A high-level description of the FUNGRAPH projet can be found here:
<http://fungraph.inria.fr> http://fungraph.inria.fr
and a description of possible research topics can be found here:
<http://fungraph.inria.fr/fungraph-jobs.html>
http://fungraph.inria.fr/fungraph-jobs.html
These topics should be considered as the "perimeter" of the research, and
will be adapted to the candidate's interests and qualifications. We are
looking to hire 1-2 Starting Researchers, 2-3 postdoctoral fellows,
1-2 PhD students (but probably a little later) and 1-2 engineers.
It is possible that a Ph.D. student works on one of the topics listed as
"PostDoc" below, and vice versa. Starting Researchers and -- depending on
their experience -- postdoctoral fellows are expected to define their own
research agenda within this "perimeter" (to be interpreted very widely).
This list of topics will evolve constantly throughout the project, so please
visit the topics page regularly.
Context
Several of these topics will involve work with our network of regular
collaborators: at
institutions such as MIT, Berkeley and UCL, and can include visits to the
respective laboratories.
We plan to expand this set of collaborators during FUNGRAPH.
Successful candidates will be members of a dynamic and highly motivated
group of excellent young researchers, the GRAPHDECO Inria group (
<https://team.inria.fr/graphdeco/team-members/>
https://team.inria.fr/graphdeco/team-members/), and will have the
opportunity to collaborate and interact with my colleague Adrien Bousseau
(who has a Starting ERC Grant called D^3) and
the other Ph.D. students, postdocs and engineers of the group.
Required Qualifications
For Starting Researcher and Postdoctoral positions, candidates are expected
to have a Ph.D. in Computer Graphics or in Computer Vision with an emphasis
on Graphics applications, and an excellent publication record. Ph.D.
candidates are expected to have a Masters in Computer Graphics, with a solid
mathematical and programming (C++/OpenGL/GLSL/Vulkan) background and have
completed a thesis with a research component (ideally submitted or
published). Fluency in spoken and written English is a requirement.
How to apply
If you are interested in any of these positions/topics, please email
directly (George dot Drettakis at inria.fr) with your CV and short
motivation, and the email addresses of 2-3 references. If you are applying
for a Ph.D. please also attach your academic transcript for the last 3 years
(an unofficial list of courses and grades is sufficient).
G. Drettakis will be at SIGGRAPH in Vancouver, and will be interviewing
candidates there.

Updated CFP:
The deadline for the ACM/SIGGRAPH conference on Motion, Interaction, and
Games (MIG 2018) has been extended by a week. The new submission deadline
is July 16 (23:59 AoE timezone).
The 11th annual ACM/SIGGRAPH conference on Motion, Interaction and Games
(MIG 2018, formerly Motion in Games) will take place in Limassol, Cyprus
from November 8-10, 2018. MIG is sponsored by ACM and held in cooperation
with Eurographics.
This year's MIG will feature a half day Machine Learning workshop led by
<http://theorangeduck.com/> Daniel Holden (Ubisoft), and
<https://sites.google.com/site/jungdampersonal/> Jungdam Won (Seoul National
University)! Both researchers have used ML to make great contributions to
the field of character animation. This workshop is designed to show
attendees how they can start to use ML in their own research. More info
about the workshop is available here:
<http://cyprusconferences.org/mig2018/call-of-papers/workshops/>
http://cyprusconferences.org/mig2018/workshops/ .
Motion plays a crucial role in interactive applications, such as VR, AR, and
video games. Characters move around, objects are manipulated or move due to
physical constraints, entities are animated, and the camera moves through
the scene. Technological advances in VR and AR have also enabled new ways
for users to interact with digital environments. Motion, Interaction, and
Games (MIG) is focused on the intersection between these three complimentary
research areas.
Motion is currently studied in many different areas of research, including
graphics and animation, game technology, robotics, simulation, computer
vision, and also physics, psychology, and urban studies. Likewise, the
challenges of interaction drive research in wide ranging fields from
mechanical engineering, to interface design, to perception. Games provide a
unique application domain for investigating the intersection of the many
facets of motion, interaction, and other areas of graphics.
Cross-fertilization between these communities can considerably advance the
state-of-the-art in the area.
The goal of the Motion, Interaction, and Games conference is to bring
together researchers from this variety of fields to present their most
recent results, to initiate collaborations, and to contribute to the
advancement of the research area. The conference will consist of regular
paper sessions as well as presentations by a selection of internationally
renowned speakers in all areas related to interactive systems and animation.
The conference includes entertaining cultural and social events that foster
casual and friendly interactions among the participants.

General Information
Since 2018 is a key year for the Cultural Heritage community, two established communities working on the domain of ICT & CH have decided to join forces and organize a federated event. The aims of this federated event are: to bring two slightly different communities together in the same venue (one oriented to research in visual technology, the other focusing on the application of those technologies to CH); to share experiences and discuss methodologies concerning digital visual media and their use in the context of cultural heritage applications; and to enable an increased cross-fertilization among those communities and foster collaboration.
GCH 2018 aims to establish an international dialogue between ICT experts and CH scientists to advance the understanding of critical requirements for processing, managing, and delivering cultural heritage information to a broad audience. The objective of the workshop is to introduce and showcase new techniques and applications for supporting Cultural Heritage information ranging from data acquisition, analysis and synthesis, 3D documentation, and data management, to new forms of interactive presentation and 3D printing solutions. Interdisciplinary approaches for analysis, classification and interpretation of cultural artefacts are particularly relevant to the event. GCH 2018 as part of Visual Heritage 2018 provides a scientific forum to exchange novel ideas and techniques in research, education and dissemination of Cultural Heritage information, to transfer them into practice, and identify future research and application opportunities.

Submission
GCH 2018 uses the Submission and Review Management (SRM) system of EUROGRAPHICS. Online submission is now open on the SRM site, which also provides detailed information about the submission process:
<https://srmv2.eg.org/COMFy/Conference/GCH_2018> https://srmv2.eg.org/COMFy/Conference/GCH_2018
Please use the EUROGRAPHICS LaTeX Package ( <https://srmv2.eg.org/COMFy/Conference/GCH_2018/GetConferenceFile?fileID=8635> https://srmv2.eg.org/COMFy/Conference/GCH_2018/GetConferenceFile?fileID=8635) to prepare your submission according to the EUROGRAPHICS style guide. Submissions can be accompanied by electronic supplementary material (e.g., images, video, demo).
Submitted content must be original work; papers or summaries of papers that have already been published or submitted elsewhere (including in another language) are not acceptable as paper submission to GCH 2018 and will be rejected without review.
Submitted papers will be carefully reviewed by members of the Program Committee and selected external reviewers. GCH 2018 uses a double-blind peer-review process to evaluate the submissions, so submission need to be properly anonymized. However, the complete information about all co-authors needs to be entered into SRM.
All accepted papers will be published by the Eurographics Association and archived in the EG Digital Library. In addition, best papers will be selected and awarded at the conference; those will be invited in extended version for further review and publication in the ACM Journal on Computing and Cultural Heritage (ACM JOCCH).

Call for Full Papers
The EUROGRAPHICS 2019 Full Papers Program will showcase innovative research in Computer Graphics and related areas. We invite submissions of new ideas, and encourage all forms of research creativity and originality. We are interested in practice, experience, novel applications, technological, system or theoretical papers, with the ambition of setting the standard in the field and stimulating future trends.
Accepted full papers will be presented at EUROGRAPHICS 2019 and published in a special issue of the Eurographics journal <https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/14678659> Computer Graphics Forum; the submissions will undergo a two-step review process. We encourage submissions from all areas related to computer graphics, including but not limited to rendering, modeling, animation, simulation, visualization, virtual and augmented reality, display technology, image processing, computational imaging, computational fabrication, human-computer interaction, and related disciplines.

Submission details
Electronic submission of all papers is mandatory and will be conducted using the <http://srmv2.eg.org/COMFy/Conference/EG_2019> Submission and Review Management (SRMv2) system. Papers must be written in English, must be anonymized, and must be formatted according to the Eurographics Computer Graphics Forum guidelines. The publication guidelines and LaTeX templates are available on <https://srmv2.eg.org/COMFy/Conference/EG_2019/Instruction> SRMv2. Accepted papers must be presented orally in English at Eurographics 2019. Review of full papers is based on a double-blind reviewing approach, so please be sure to remove all personal data (such as authors, affiliations, etc.) from your submission. References to your own work should be made in the third person to maintain anonymity. Reviewers are asked to keep confidential all materials sent to them for evaluation.
There is no maximum length imposed on papers. However, papers should only be as long as they need to be, but not longer. Reviewers might rank submissions perceived as being either repetitive or unnecessarily long lower than they would score concisely written papers.
Plagiarism and Prior Art
A submission to the Eurographics Full Papers program should describe an original work of the authors. Authors must not use ideas or content originating from others without properly crediting their original sources. Note that such sources are not limited to peer-reviewed publications, but also include patents, textbooks, technical reports, theses, unpublished work posted on arXiv, as well as other posts on the World Wide Web. Failure to comply with this requirement will be considered plagiarism and result in rejection.
Authors are not required to discuss and compare their work with non-peer reviewed (pre-publication) works (arXiv, technical reports, theses, etc.), although they must properly cite those that inspired them and are encouraged to mention all related works they are aware of. Authors of conditionally accepted papers should be prepared to cite pre-publications listed by reviewers in their final revision as concurrent work, but are not required to detail how their work compares to or differs from these pre-publications.
Re-submitted material
For papers that have previously been reviewed by other venues and have been rejected or withdrawn, the authors are encouraged to provide a cover letter to describe the history of the paper (however, this does not imply reviewer continuity). This cover letter can also answer the comments made in the previous reviews, by either listing the changes that were made to comply with them, or discussing/rebutting/clarifying some elements if need be. Though not mandatory, this procedure is strongly encouraged. The cover letter has to be submitted through SRM as an ‘Additional Attachment’ (see last section of the SRM upload form for details).
Graphics Replicability Stamp Initiative
Authors who are willing to go one step further toward replicability of their contributed algorithm and provide a complete open-source implementation, can get an additional recognition via submission to the Graphics Replicability Stamp Initiative (see http://www.replicabilitystamp.org/). All articles published in the Computer Graphics Forum are eligible to apply for the stamp.
Rebuttal, Notification, Publication, and Prizes
* The reviews will be made available to the authors on November 26, 2018. During a rebuttal period from November 26 to December 3, 2018, authors will be able to submit a brief document to address any factual errors or clarify any issues raised by reviews.
* The date for notification of the results of the first round of the review process is December 19, 2018.
* Revised versions of papers conditionally accepted in the first round must be submitted by February 1st, 2019.
* The final notification of the outcome of the second reviewing round will be made on February 15, 2019.
* The camera-ready version of accepted papers will be due on March 8, 2019.
* From all accepted and presented papers, an international jury will select the best papers. The first best paper will receive the Günter Enderle Award, including a cash prize of €1,000, presented at Eurographics 2019.
